Raman spectroscopic investigations of the structure and phase transitions of liquid crystalline lead(II) alkanoates

Lead(II) alkanoates with even chain lengths from octanoate to octadecanoate have been investigated by Raman spectroscopy. In the low frequency region, transverse and longitudinal acoustical modes (TAM, LAM) have been assigned. It was shown that LAM-1 is the vibration of the double chain with the node of the vibration in the Pb²⁺ layer. A fully extended conformation of the chains in the low temperature phase was confirmed. The frequencies and intensities of the LAMs as compared with those of the alkanes and the fatty acids led to an estimate of the force constant and polarizability of the Pb²⁺ -COO^- bond relative to the C-C bond. The defects at the chain ends were investigated in the ρ(CH₃) and v(CC) region. For the intermediate (CM) phase, both the Pb²⁺ layer distance reduction and the chain length independent enthalpy contributions can be attributed mainly to defects at the chain ends.     

Organometallic complexes with biological molecues,part 3. in vivo cytotoxicity of diorganotin (IV) chloro and triorganotin (IV) chloro derivatives of penicillin g on chromosomes of aphanius fasciatus (pisces,cyprinodontiformes)

In order to obtain a continuous source of mitotic metaphases, gill tissue of Aphaius fasciatus (Pisces, Cyprinodontiformes) has been successfully employed. Results gathered after exposure of fish to R₂SnClpenG, R₃SnClpenGNa, to the parents R₂SnCl₂, R₃SnCl and to penGNa (penGNa = penicillinGNa; R = methyl, butyl and phenyl) suggest that both the parent organotin (IV) chloride and organotin (IV) chloropenG derivatives are toxic while penGNa exerts no significant toxic activity. Essentially, all of the chromosome abnormalities are classifiable as irregularly staining of chromosomes, breakages, side-arm bridges or pseudochiasmata.     

Origins and structures of background ions produced by fast-atom bombardment of glycerol

Accurate mass measurements were used to assign elemental compositions and tandem mass spectrometry was used to characterize the peak-at-every-mass background ions produced by kiloelectron-volt-particle bombardment of neat fast-atom bombardment matrices. The majority of the background ions observed in the mass spectrum of neat glycerol was identified. On the basis of the experiments with glycerol, a theory for the formation of background ions is presented. Results are discussed according to the chemical and physical changes that ygoe;on-volt-particle bombardment produces in the matrix.     

Reactions ofN,N-dibromo-tert-butylamine with ketoximes

Reactions of acetone, cyclohexanone, and adamantanone oximes withN,N-dibromo-tert-butylamine result in the correspondingC-bromo-diazene-N-oxides. Synthesis of vinyl-substituted oxiranes and their transformation to dihydrofurans

The reaction of dimethylsulfonium methylide with the carbonyl function of 2-arylidene-cyclohexanones obtained from 2-methylcyclohexanone affords the corresponding spirooxiranes. The application of this reaction to 2,2-dimethyl-6-(5-methylfurfurylidene)cyclohexanone and 2,2-dimethyl-6-(5-chlorofurfurylidene)cyclohexanone leads to substituted 4,4-dimethyl-1-furyl-1,-3,4,5,6,7-hexahydroisobenzofurans.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Flaked capillary columns with crown ether complexes for gas-liquid chromatography

Flaked capillary columns with an OV-101/CE-Na{in3}PO{in4} hydrophobic-hydrophilic sorbent have been suggested. This sorbent provides for the analysis of polar and nonpolar substances, including amines and aminoalcohols, in aqueous and organic solvents.
