We present a bistatic Doppler method to measure forward scatter at large angles of incidence. The Doppler shifted signal avoids contamination by the direct signal between antennae. We illuminated a small area on a rotating table with a 95-GHz transmitter pointed at 60-80° angles of incidence. The area velocity was nearly constant. The scattering media was crushed rock with root mean square (rms) height to wavelength ratio near unity. Although theory precludes Doppler shift for targets moving in the plane of bistatic collinear antennae, shifts occurred at the monostatic backscattering value predicted by twice the table velocity within the illuminated area. The Rayleigh distributions of the Doppler shifted signal, with increasing standard deviation and corresponding decreasing peak amplitude as angle of incidence increased, are expected for the unity ratio, and so verify that Doppler shifted forward scatter was measured. The increased standard deviation with increasing angle is expected because of the increased sensitivity to smaller slope facets of the rock. The reference signal recorded for a metal plate signal also verifies the bistatic Doppler shift and precludes contamination by multiply-reflected backscatter. Minor modifications will allow grazing angle behaviour to be approached. It appears that further theory is needed to understand the bistatic Doppler process.  相似文献

The influence of the oxide aperture radius on the characteristics of a long-wavelength vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) lasing at 1550 nm is presented in this paper. While previous works in the literature mostly investigate the scaling effects of short-wavelength VCSELs. The importance of studying the effects of long-wavelength operation should not be underestimated, as it could be used in fiber optics communication to mitigate dispersion and attenuation of the channel. Using the oxide-confined VCSEL model, the dynamic operations were examined taking into account the carrier-noise, photon-noise and phase-noise, including feedback of the external cavity. Our simulations show that by reducing the oxide aperture up to a given optimal radius, an improvement in the device's characteristics can be demonstrated. Below this value, performance degradation is expected due to increased diffraction losses, reduced confinement factor and enhanced spontaneous emission.  相似文献

This paper discusses a design of a hybrid ring–mesh network in a survivable communication network. Given a set of traffic demands, the problem is to assign each traffic demand to rings and mesh such that the cost of add–drop multiplexer (ADM) and digital cross-connect system (DCS) equipment required is minimized. This assignment problem can be considered together with the fibre routing of nodes on rings and mesh. As a solution procedure, a tabu search is developed with recency-based short-term and frequency-based long-term memory structures. In computational experiments, the proposed tabu search is compared with the solutions obtained by the branch and bound procedure of CPLEX. We see that the tabu search provides a nearly optimal solution within sufficiently short time periods for all test problems with a gap of approximately 1–4% from the lower bound.  相似文献

An effective method is presented for enhancing the outcoupling efficiency of translucent/bi‐directional organic light‐emitting diodes (TL/BD‐OLEDs) with a bottom indium tin oxide (ITO) anode and a top cathode comprised of a thin Ag layer covered with an organic capping layer. Upon insertion of a nanoparticle (NP)‐based scattering layer (NPSL) between the substrate and the ITO anode, the TL/BD‐OLEDs exhibit significantly enhanced external quantum efficiency (EQE) in both emission directions. Furthermore, the NPSL improves the color stability of the TL/BD‐OLEDs over a wide range of viewing angles. Simulations based on geometrical and statistical optics are performed to elucidate the mechanism by which the efficiency is enhanced and to establish strategies for further optimization. Simulations performed on the scattering layers with varying NP volume percentage reveal that the bottom‐side emission is governed by competition between waveguide‐mode extraction and backward scattering by NPs in the film, while the top‐side emission is largely dominated by the latter. Optimized bi‐directional OLEDs achieve a 1.64‐fold enhanced EQE compared to reference devices without NPSL.  相似文献

To investigate thermogelling behavior, in this study, we prepared a methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) diblock copolymer (MPC) with varying hydrophobic poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) lengths and an MPC featuring a zwitterionic sulfobetaine (MPC‐ZW) at the chain end of the PCL segment. The terminal zwitterionic sulfobetaine was stoichiometrically modified to the terminal MPC diblock copolymer. The introduction of the zwitterionic end group lowered the crystallization enthalpies of the PCL block segments and increased the solubility of the diblock copolymer. The MPC and MPC‐ZW copolymers thus obtained formed translucent emulsions at room temperature when prepared as 20 wt %. When the temperature was increased above room temperature, MPC and MPC‐ZW exhibited a sol‐to‐gel phase transition. The phase transition and the gelation time of MPC and MPC‐ZW were affected by the length of the hydrophobic segments and the zwitterionic end group. Furthermore, introducing a zwitterionic end group into the PCL segment altered the onset temperature of gelation. Thus, we conclude that zwitterionic end groups introduced into PCL segments of distinct lengths could serve as key determinants in the thermogelling behavior of copolymers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Flash differential scanning calorimetry was used to study the glass transition temperature Tg of polycarbonate ultrathin films. The investigation was made as a function of film thickness from 22 to 350 nm and over a range of cooling rates from 0.1 to 1000 K/s. Polycarbonate spin cast films were floated on a layer of grease on the calorimetric chip. The results show a greatly reduced glass temperature for the thinnest films relative to the macroscopic value. We also observed that the magnitude of the glass temperature reduction decreases as the cooling rate increases with the highest cooling rates showing little thickness dependence of the Tg. Dynamic fragility and activation energy at Tg were found to decrease with decreasing film thickness. Reaction of unique [W(CN)6(phen)]- with a magnetically anisotropic Mn Schiff base yielded a WⅤ(5d)-MnⅢ(3d) bimetallic compound with a linear chain structure. The magnetic properties of the chain complex feature a ferrimagnetic behavior as well as slow magnetic relaxation typical for a single-chain magnet.  相似文献

A phytotoxic root exudate from Acroptilon repens was identified as 7,8‐benzoflavone, an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 1A2 and activator of cytochrome P450 3A4. The synthetic 5,6‐benzoflavone also is a potent phytotoxin. Six 7,8‐benzoflavones and eight 5,6‐benzoflavones were synthesized in this study. The NMR data for a few of these compounds have been previously reported; however, the NMR data for most of them have not been reported. Chalcones are of interest to medicinal chemists because their structures can be easily modified with various functional groups. The syntheses and biological activities of chalcones from natural sources are well known. In this study, 24 2′‐hydroxychalcones bearing methoxy substituents were synthesized, among which five are new. The NMR data for all synthesized chalcones are described for the first time. The complete assignments of the 1H and 13C NMR data can be used for the identification of newly discovered and widely isolated, synthesized chalcones. To find potent new chemotherapy drugs, we designed and synthesized a series of naphthochalcones bearing naphthalenyl‐phenyl‐pyrazoline moieties. The complete 1H and 13C NMR data for these compounds are reported here and can be used to identify further new naphthochalcones bearing the desired pyrazoline moieties.
