Beta-NMR detection of beta-emitting fragment43Ti

NMR on the beta emitter⁴³Ti has been observed by use of the -NMR technique. From the observed NMR spectrum, the magnetic moment of⁴³Ti was determined to be || =0.85±0.02 µ_N. The value is significantly quenched from the single particle value –1.91 µ_N, which shows a strong effect resulting from meson-exchange currents andconfiguration mixing.     

Giant quadrupole moment andproton halo discovered in8B

The nuclear quadrupole moment of⁸B(I =2⁺,T _1/2=769 ms) has been determined by use of a modified -NMR detection as |Q(⁸B)|=68.3±2.1 mb, which is twice the prediction of the Cohen-Kurath shell model calculation. The anomalous quadrupole moment which is carried mainly by the protons in the nucleus, has been accounted for by the proton halo effect.     

Precise measurement of the magnetic moment of doubly closed shell + 1 nucleon nucleus17F(I π=5/2+,T 1/2=64.5 s)

Hyperfine interactions of -emitting¹⁷F implanted in single crystals of NaF and CaF₂ were studied. The nuclear magnetic moment of theI =5/2⁺ state was determined with improved precision to be |(¹⁷F;I =5/2⁺,T _1/2=64.5s)|=4.72130±0.00025 µ_N.     

Computing Gröbner fans

This paper presents algorithms for computing the Gröbner fan of an arbitrary polynomial ideal. The computation involves enumeration of all reduced Gröbner bases of the ideal. Our algorithms are based on a uniform definition of the Gröbner fan that applies to both homogeneous and non-homogeneous ideals and a proof that this object is a polyhedral complex. We show that the cells of a Gröbner fan can easily be oriented acyclically and with a unique sink, allowing their enumeration by the memory-less reverse search procedure. The significance of this follows from the fact that Gröbner fans are not always normal fans of polyhedra, in which case reverse search applies automatically. Computational results using our implementation of these algorithms in the software package Gfan are included.

     

A multielement masking method using magnesium hydroxide coprecipitation for the selective determination of lead in water samples by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry.

We present a new multielement masking method using magnesium hydroxide coprecipitation for the selective determination of Pb by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). The recovery of Pb in the masking method was over 95%, while interfering ions (Cd(2+), Co(2+), Cu(2+), Fe(3+), Mn(2+), and Ni(2+)) could be removed at 100% from the analytical sample. A linear regression was obtained in the Pb concentration from 10 to 1000 microg kg(-1) in the existence of 100 microg kg(-1) of the interfering ions. When this method was applied to the determination of Pb in a natural water-standard reference material (NIST 1640), the determined value for Pb in this work (25.4 +/- 4.1 microg kg(-1)) almost agreed with the certified value (27.89 +/- 0.14 microg kg(-1)).
