Epitaxial lateral overgrowth was applied to a-plane GaN on r-plane sapphire using SiO2 stripe masks oriented parallel to [0 1¯ 1 1]. Coalescence and defect distribution was studied using scanning electron microscopy and cathodoluminescence. Defects, i.e., threading dislocations and basal plane stacking faults from the template propagate into the overgrown layer through the mask openings. Stacking faults spread into the whole overgrown layer, whereas threading dislocations are laterally confined in the region above the mask where a part of them is terminated at the inclined coalescence boundary. Lateral overgrowth and dislocation termination at the coalescence boundary leads to an improvement in luminescence intensity and crystal quality, in comparison to the template. The measured XRD rocking curve FWHM were 453″ with incidence along the [0 0 0 1] c-direction and 280″ with incidence along the [0 1 1¯ 0] m-direction.  相似文献

Heat-flow-induced dynamic overpressure at the perturbed ablation front of an inertial confinement fusion target can stabilize the ablative Richtmyer-Meshkov-like instability and mitigate the subsequent ablative Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) instability. A series of experiments was performed on the OMEGA laser to quantify the dynamic overpressure stabilization during the shock transit. Analysis of the experimental data using hydrocode simulations shows that the observed oscillatory evolution of the ablation-front perturbations depends on Dc, the size of the thermal conduction zone, and the fluid velocity in the blowoff region Vb1 that are sensitive to the thermal transport model used. We show that the simulations match the experiment well when the time dependence of the heat-flux inhibition is taken into account using a recently developed nonlocal heat-transport model [V. N. Goncharov et al., Phys. Plasmas 13, 012702 (2006)].  相似文献

The surface localization of polymer chain ends has been shown to be an effective method for surface composition control in amorphous polymer films. This work determines chain end distribution in thin polyethersulfone (PESU) films end‐capped with deuterated compounds of varying size and composition. Neutron reflectivity revealed the preferential localization of chain ends to the PESU‐air interface, independent of chain end identity. The length scale of the chain end concentration gradient was determined to differ from that predicted for flexible chain polymers. Atomic force microscopy and contact angle analysis demonstrated that chain end localization allows for improved control of nanoscale and macroscale surface properties of PESU films. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior of (PS‐PIB)2s‐PAA miktoarm star terpolymers with varying volume fractions of PAA was investigated directly by transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and small‐angle X‐ray scattering, and indirectly by thermogravimetric analysis and degree of water sorption. The microdomains of (PS‐PIB)2s‐PAA demonstrate a unique and unexpected progression from highly ordered cylinders, to lower ordered spheres, to gyroid structures with increasing PAA content from 6.6 to 47 wt %. Interestingly, the phase behavior in the miktoarm star polymer system is significantly different from that reported previously for the linear counterpart of similar composition (PAA‐PS‐PIB‐PS‐PAA), where a steady progression from cylindrical to lamellar morphology was observed with increasing PAA content. At low PAA concentrations, the morphology is driven primarily by the relative solubility of the components, while at high PAA content the molecular architecture dominates. Thermal annealing demonstrated the thermodynamic stability of the morphologies, indicating the potential for design of novel microstructures for specific applications through precise control of architecture, composition, and interaction parameters of the components. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the secondary structure of an artificial β-sheet-forming cationic peptide has been studied. The AuNPs inhibited β-sheet formation and led to fragmented fibrils and spherical oligomers with assembled AuNPs on their surface. Besides this structural change, the functional properties of the peptide are also different. Whereas the peptide was unable to act as a vector for gene delivery, formation of a complex with AuNPs allowed successful gene delivery into cells.  相似文献

We report on a stabilizer of the interaction between 14‐3‐3ζ and the Estrogen Receptor alpha (ERα). ERα is a driver in the majority of breast cancers and 14‐3‐3 proteins are negative regulators of this nuclear receptor, making the stabilization of this protein‐protein interaction (PPI) an interesting strategy. The stabilizer ( 1 ) consists of three symmetric peptidic arms containing an arginine mimetic, previously described as the GCP motif. 1 stabilizes the 14‐3‐3ζ/ERα interaction synergistically with the natural product Fusicoccin‐A and was thus hypothesized to bind to a different site. This is supported by computational analysis of 1 binding to the binary complex of 14‐3‐3 and an ERα‐derived phosphopeptide. Furthermore, 1 shows selectivity towards 14‐3‐3ζ/ERα interaction over other 14‐3‐3 client‐derived phosphomotifs. These data provide a solid support of a new binding mode for a supramolecular 14‐3‐3ζ/ERα PPI stabilizer.  相似文献

Enhancement of the ion temperature and fusion yield has been observed in magnetized laser-driven inertial confinement fusion implosions on the OMEGA Laser Facility. A spherical CH target with a 10 atm D2 gas fill was imploded in a polar-drive configuration. A magnetic field of 80 kG was embedded in the target and was subsequently trapped and compressed by the imploding conductive plasma. As a result of the hot-spot magnetization, the electron radial heat losses were suppressed and the observed ion temperature and neutron yield were enhanced by 15% and 30%, respectively.  相似文献

Arginine‐rich cell‐penetrating peptides are widely utilized as vectors for gene delivery. However, their transfection efficacy still needs to be optimized. To accomplish this, guanidinocarbonylpyrrole groups, which are tailor‐made anion binding sites, were introduced into the side chains of tetralysine to obtain the peptide analogue 1 . In contrast to the common strategy of adding a lipophilic tail to peptide vectors, this novel method most likely enhances transfection efficacy through more specific interactions between the binding motifs and DNA or the cell membrane. Tetrapeptide analogue 1 is thus the smallest peptidic transfection vector that has been reported to date. The transfection efficacy of 1 , which on average has less than two positive charges under physiological conditions, is even better than that of polyethylenimine (PEI). Furthermore, 1 exhibits only negligible cytotoxicity, which makes it an interesting candidate for further development.  相似文献
