The point of view expressed in the literature that gravitomagnetism has not yet been observed or measured is not entirely correct. Observations of gravitational phenomena are reviewed in which the gravitomagnetic interaction—a post-Newtonian gravitational force between moving matter—has participated and which has been measured to 1 part in 1000. Gravitomagnetism is shown to be ubiquitous in gravitational phenomena and is a necessary ingredient in the equations of motion, without which the most basic gravitational dynamical effects (including Newtonian gravity) could not be consistently calculated by different inertial observers. 相似文献

The initial stage of cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC) growth on a Si(0 0 1) surface using dimethylsilane (DMS) as a source gas was observed using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED). It was found that the dimer vacancies initially existing on the Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 1) surface were repaired by the Si atoms in DMS molecules, during the formation of the c(4 × 4) surface. From the STM measurement, nucleation of SiC was found to start when the Si surface was covered with the c(4 × 4) structure but before the appearance of SiC spots in the RHEED pattern. The growth mechanism of SiC islands was also discussed based on the results of RHEED, STM and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD). 相似文献

Paradoxical vocal fold motion is a rare disorder in which adduction of the folds occurs on inspiration. The disorder presents with signs of airway obstruction and often airway distress, so proper diagnosis by the otorhinolaryngologist is critical to subsequent management. We present a retrospective review of 10 patients with the diagnosis of paradoxical vocal fold motion seen over a 6-year period. Eight patients were females, and 6 required an acute airway intervention at presentation; 3 patients eventually underwent tracheotomy for respiratory decompensation. Six patients had a prior diagnosis of asthma, and this was determined to contribute to their respiratory status. Five patients were treated with botulinum toxin and 2 with flexible nasolaryngoscopic biofeedback, which improved the outcome. A review of the literature confirms a female predominance of patients presenting with paradoxical adduction and airway distress, often with a history of asthma and psychopathology. Our experience with botulinum toxin and biofeedback suggests that these procedures are viable treatment options in the management of patients with this disorder. 相似文献

Ordering transitions are observed in azo‐dendrimer‐dissolved nematic liquid crystal (NLC) droplets dispersed in a glycerol matrix. The dendrimer molecules are spontaneously attached at the interface between NLC and glycerol, so that the nematic directors orient perpendicular to the interface, in the radial configuration. Photoisomerization makes the directors be tangential to the interface, in a photoinduced ordering transition from radial to bipolar structure. Similar experiments are conducted both in cholesteric (Ch) and smectic‐A (SmA) LC droplets. Complicated photoinduced ordering transitions are also observed in Ch and SmA droplets, and the associated molecular orientation changes are discussed. Photoisomerizable azo‐dendrimer molecules provide a possible way to control orientation, even in microdroplet systems in which the interface cannot be treated by conventional surface agents. 相似文献

Crystallization of isotactic polystyrene (it‐PS) from dilute solution at high supercooling has been investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS). We successfully obtained simultaneously, in situ in solutions, the time developments of both random coils of it‐PS molecules and the growing crystals. The size of coils remains constant during growth, while the crystals pass through two stages, that is, an induction period at the early stage with very slow growth rates and a subsequent linear growth stage. It is confirmed that the temperature dependence of the linear growth rates, determined by DLS, agree well with that determined by electron microscopy. The temperature dependences of the growth rate and the inverse of induction time are dependent on the viscosity of solvent, which indicates that all dynamics are dominated by the segmental motion of polymer chains in solution at high supercoolings (low temperatures). Introduction
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) measures in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), particularly those measures associated with a specific white matter pathway, have consistently shown correlations with function. This study sought to investigate correlations between DTI measures in the fornix and common cognitive deficits in MS patients, including episodic memory, working memory and attention.Materials and Methods
Patients with MS and group age- and sex-matched controls underwent high-resolution diffusion scanning (1-mm isotropic voxels) and cognitive testing. Manually drawn forniceal regions of interest were applied to individual maps of tensor-derived measures, and mean values of transverse diffusivity (TD), mean diffusivity (MD), longitudinal diffusivity (LD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) were calculated.Results
In 40 patients with MS [mean age±S.D.= 42.55±9.1 years; Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS)=2.0±1.2; Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (MSFC) score=0.38±0.46] and 20 healthy controls (mean age±S.D.= 41.35±9.7 years; EDSS=0.0±0; MSFC score=0.74±0.24), we found that FA, MD and TD values in the fornix were significantly different between groups (P< .03), and patient performance on the Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R) was correlated with DTI measures (P< .03).Discussion
These results are consistent with findings of axonal degeneration in MS and support the use of DTI as an indicator of disease progression. 相似文献39.

beam for difference-frequency generation. A line width of less than 500 MHz and a wide tunable frequency range (0.6–6.2 THz)
provide sufficient resolution for measuring materials with sharp absorption bands using the generator as the light source
for a THz spectrometer. This is suitable for materials such as gases or solid samples at low temperatures. We demonstrated

It is well-recognized that DNA methylation and histone modifications play critical roles in epigenetic regulation of gene activity through the alteration of chromatin structure. Recent studies have shown that in a subset of cancer cells, the silencing of the human E-cadherin (CDH1) gene is associated with hypermethylation of the CpG island. However, the associated molecular mechanism remains unclear. To understand the mechanism, we have investigated the alteration of CpG island methylation and histone modifications during the reactivation of the CDH1 gene by treatment with 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine (5-aza-dC). Although the CDH1 gene expression was recovered by treatment with 5-aza-dC in a liver cancer cell line Li21, the methylation status of the entire CpG island and acetylation and methylation status of associated histones were not significantly altered. These results demonstrate that the silenced CDH1 gene can be reactivated without apparent alteration of histone modification or CpG island methylation. 相似文献
