Local crystal structure of nano-manganese-oxide gold adsorbent

The local crystal structure of dried and deuterated nano-manganese-oxide powder samples was studied via atomic pair distribution function analysis of X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data. The protonated sample shows ultrahigh efficiency as a gold adsorbent even from ppt-level aqueous solutions such as seawater. We show that the nano-manganese-oxide particles have an R-MnO₂-type local crystal structure. The possible role of the protons on the surface of the nano-particles is discussed.     

InBr3-catalyzed reduction of ketones with a hydrosilane: deoxygenation of aromatic ketones and selective synthesis of secondary alcohols and symmetrical ethers from aliphatic ketones

An InBr₃-Et₃SiH reducing system was developed to selectively convert aliphatic ketones to a variety of secondary alcohols in moderate to good yields. An initial mixing of InBr₃ and PhSiH₃ was followed by the addition of aliphatic ketones and a solvent to afford the symmetrical ether derivatives.     

Solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with sequences of initial data converging to a Dirac mass

We study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with sequences of initial data that converge to a Dirac mass, and study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions. In doing so we find a connection to previously known long time asymptotics. We demonstrate a type of universality in the behaviour of solutions for real initial data, and we also show how this universality breaks down for examples of initial data that are not purely real.     

The first example of enantioselective allyl transfer from a linear homoallylic alcohol to an aldehyde

[reaction: see text] The first example of enantioselective linear homoallylic alcohol transfer reaction was revealed. In all cases, the whole rearrangement is thermodynamically favorable and a steric effect is the driving force of this reaction. The preservation of the stereocenter and olefin geometry together with the isolation of gamma-adduct homoallylic alcohols in one isomeric form have warranted the proposed mechanism.
