Summary Sediment cores with different sub-bottom depths (I: 45 cm and II: 700 cm) from the Peru Basin have been investigated. From the depth profile of the relative amount of Fe(II) a redox zone is obtained which correlates with the organic carbon flux into the sediment (core I). M?ssbauer parameters suggest that the iron in the sediments is mainly contained in clay minerals and to varying extent also in goethite. Fly ash is produced in massive quantities by fossil fuel based power plants and waste incinerators, and contains high levels of potentially toxic chemicals. Various leaching tests exist to determine the available fractions, but the outcome is strongly dependent on the experimental conditions, and these have not yet been harmonised at the international level. In order to test existing protocols for heavy metals, several intercomparisons were organised within the framework of an EU-INCO project "ANALEACH", in which seven institutes from five countries participated. Two existing reference materials were made available for the project and test batches of two new fly ash reference materials were produced. Availability tests, leaching tests and pH-stat tests were studied and critical steps in the procedures were identified. Fly ashes can also contain large amounts of inorganic sulphur and nitrogen compounds, and the determination and leaching behaviour of these compounds were also studied. In one intercomparison for metals, inorganic S and N-compounds were also included. A five-step leaching test was optimised for fly ash in order to link metal fractions to different types of binding. Column leaching experiments were carried out to investigate leaching from fly ash into soil, mimicking the effects of (acid) rain on fly ash deposited on topsoil after atmospheric transport. The major fraction of the leached metal ions was retained by the soil. Also large numbers of organic compounds (including many toxic ones) were identified in fly ash extracts, especially in city waste incinerator ash. Leaching procedures based on ultrasonic extraction were developed for organic compounds and an intercomparison exercise was organised. In a field study at the river Nitra(Slovakia) numerous organic pollutants were found at elevated levels downstream from a major fly ash dump site.  相似文献

In an attempt to determine the electron configuration of (anion)iron corrolates, i.e., whether they are S = 1 Fe(IV)-corrolate(3-) or S = 3/2 Fe(III)-corrolate(2-*), with antiferromagnetic coupling between the iron and macrocycle electrons to yield overall S = 1, two axial ligand complexes of an iron octaalkylcorrolate have been studied by temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility, magnetic M?ssbauer, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and the results have been compared to those determined on the basis of spin-unrestricted DFT calculations. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate the presence of a noninnocent macrocycle (corrolate (2-*)) for the chloroiron corrolate, with strong antiferromagnetic coupling to the S = 3/2 Fe(III) center, while those for the phenyliron corrolate are not conclusive as to the electron configuration. Temperature- and field-dependent M?ssbauer spectroscopic investigations of these two complexes yielded spectra that could be simulated with either electron configuration, except that the isomer shift of the phenyl-iron complex is -0.10 mm/s while that of the chloroiron complex is +0.21 mm/s, suggesting that the iron in the former is Fe(IV) while in the latter it is Fe(III). 1H NMR spectroscopic studies of both axial ligand complexes show large negative spin density at the meso carbons, with those of the chloroiron complex (Cai, S.; Walker, F. A.; Licoccia, S. Inorg. Chem. 2000, 39, 3466) being roughly four times larger than those of the phenyliron complex. The temperature dependence of the proton chemical shifts of the phenyliron complex is strictly linear. DFT calculations are consistent with the chloroiron complex being formulated as S1 = 3/2 Fe(III)-corrolate (2-*) S2 = 1/2, with negative spin density at all nitrogens and meso carbons, and a net spin density of -0.79 on the corrolate ring and positive spin density (+0.17) on the chloride ion and +2.58 on the iron. In contrast, the phenyliron complex is best formulated as S = 1 Fe(IV)-corrolate (3-), but again with negative spin density at all nitrogens and meso carbons of the macrocycle, yet with the net spin density on the corrolate ring being virtually zero; the phenyl carbanion carbon has relatively large negative spin density of -0.15 and the iron +2.05. On the basis of all of the results, we conclude that in both the chloroiron and phenyliron complexes the corrolate ring is noninnocent, in the chloroiron complex to a much larger extent than in the phenyliron complex.  相似文献

Zerovalent complexes of the type Pd(Ar-BIAN)(alkene), i.e. complexes containing the rigid bidentate nitrogen ligands bis(arylimino) acenaphthene (Ar = p-Tol, p-MeOC6H4, o-Tol,o,o′-Me2C6H3, o,o′-iPr2C6H3) and an electron-poor alkene have been shown to react with a variety of (organic) halides RX, including methyl, benzyl, aryl, acyl and allylic halides, to give the corresponding square planar divalent Pd(R)X(Ar-BIAN) or [Pd(η3-allyl)(Ar-BIAN)]X complexes. The new complexes obtained have been fully characterized and their fluxional behaviour in solution studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The rate of oxidative addition of iodomethane to Pd(p-Tol-BIAN)(alkene) complexes was found to decrease with increasing Pd-alkene bond strength, i.e. dimethyl fumarate fumaronitrile, but oxidative addition to the fumaronitrile complex was accelerated by irradiation with a mercury lamp. A novel method based on AFM was used to attach individual collagen fibrils between a glass surface and the AFM tip, to allow force spectroscopy studies of these. The fibrils were deposited on glass substrates that are partly coated with Teflon AF. A modified AFM tip was used to accurately deposit epoxy glue droplets on either end of the collagen fibril that cross the glass-Teflon AF interface, as to such attach it with one end to the glass and the other end to the AFM tip. Single collagen fibrils have been mechanically tested in ambient conditions and were found to behave reversibly up to stresses of 90 MPa. Within this regime a Young's modulus of 2-7 GPa was obtained. In aqueous media, the collagen fibrils could be tested reversibly up to about 15 MPa, revealing Young's moduli ranging from 0.2 to at most 0.8 GPa.  相似文献

We present an average case analysis of the minimum spanning tree heuristic for the power assignment problem. The worst‐case approximation ratio of this heuristic is 2. We show that in Euclidean d‐dimensional space, when the vertex set consists of a set of i.i.d. uniform random independent, identically distributed random variables in [0,1]d, and the distance power gradient equals the dimension d, the minimum spanning tree‐based power assignment converges completely to a constant depending only on d.  相似文献
