Ab initio calculations of isomerization reaction of diphosphene 1-sulfide to thiadiphosphirane

Ab initio Calculations of the isomerization reaction of diphosphene 1-sulfide (2′) to thiadiphosphirane (3′) suggest that the energy barrier of the reaction in the ground state is 25 kcal/mol and that 2′ lies 21 kcal/mol above 3′, while the calculations show that there exists one local minimum on the lowest triplet energy surface.     

Addition reactions of cyclooctatetraene with 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran the benzene ring as dienophile in a [4+2] cycloaddition reaction

Addition reactions of cyclooctatetraene with 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran resulted in the formation of three 1:1 cycloadducts, 1, 2, and 3, and a 1:2 cycloadduct, 4. Single crystal x-ray analysis established 3 to be a cage compound formed by an unprecedented [4+2] cycloaddition reaction of 1 in which the double bond of the benzene moiety acted as the dienophile.     

Polycyclic N-hetero compounds. XXVII. Synthesis and investigation of the antidepressive activity of a B-Homo-11,13,15-triazasteroid and its related compoundsd

A synthesis of 1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-4H-benzo[3,4]cyclohepta[1,2-e]imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidine (XII) having a novel ring system is described. Antidepressive activity of XII and its precursors VII-X was screened by inhibitory action of reserpine-induced hypothermia.     

High pressure and high temperature investigations in the system MgOSiO2H2O

The system MgOSiO₂H₂O was investigated at pressures between 40 and 95 kbar and at temperatures between 500 and 1400°C. The reaction products were examined by X-ray, optical and thermal analysis techniques and the density of phase A discovered by Ringwood and Major was also measured. It was found that phase A was hydrated and its chemical formula was H₆Mg₇Si₂O₁₄. When the $\text{Mg}\text{Si}$ ratio of the system is 2, phase A + clinoenstatite, and forsterite are stable at temperatures lower and higher than a boundary curve T (°C) = 10P (kbar), respectively. When the $\text{Mg}\text{Si}$ ratio of the system is 3, phase A + phase D (which is completely different from the phases, A, B and C discovered by Ringwood and Major, and any other known phases of magnesium silicate) and phase D + brucite are stable at temperatures lower and higher than a boundary curve T(°C) = 10P (kbar) + 200. Phase A has approximately an hexagonal symmetry and the space group and the lattice parameters are determined as P6₃ or $\text{P6}{}_3\text{m}$ and a = 7.866(2) Å and c = 9.600(3) Å, respectively. The measured density is 2.96 ± 0.02 g/cm³. The optical observations show that phase A is biaxial positive crystal with refractive indices α = 1.638 ± 0.001, β = 1.640 ± 0.002, and γ = 1.649 ± 0.001. Some interpretation is given on the inconsistency between the symmetry determined by the X-ray diffraction and the optical observation. The new phase D belongs to the space group $\text{P2}{}_1\text{c}$ with lattice parameters a = 7.914(2)Å, b = 4.752(1) Å, c = 10.350(2) Å and β = 108.71(5)° and is a biaxial crystal with refractive indices α = 1.630 ± 0.002, β = 1.642 ± 0.002 and γ = 1.658 ± 0.001.     

Chiral amplification in macromolecular helicity assisted by noncovalent interaction with achiral amines and memory of the helical chirality

Poly[(4-carboxyphenyl)acetylene] (poly-1) exhibits an intense induced circular dichroism (ICD) in the UV-visible region upon complexation with excess (R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine ((R)-2), owing to the formation of a predominantly single-handed helical conformation of the polymer backbone. In the presence of a small amount of (R)-2, poly-1 showed a very weak ICD due to the lack of a single-handed helical conformation. However, we have found that the co-addition of the excess bulky, achiral 1-naphthylmethylamine (5) with a small amount of (R)-2 caused a dramatic increase in the ICD magnitude, comparable to the full ICD induced by excess (R)-2. This indicates that an almost single-handed helix can be induced on poly-1 upon complexation with a small amount of (R)-2 assisted by achiral 5. Furthermore, the induced single-handed helical poly-1 could be successfully memorized by the replacement of (R)-2 and 5 with achiral 2-aminoethanol or n-butylamine.     

Ferroelectric phase transitions in Pb2xSn2(1-x)P2Se6 system

Heat capacities of the Pb_2xSn_2(1-x)P₂Se₆ crystals (x=0, 0.098, 0.251, 0.402 and 1.0) were measured using an adiabatic calorimeter at temperatures between 10 and 350 K. In the crystal of x=0, two heat capacity anomalies corresponding to the ferroelectric commensurate - intermediate incommensurate(C-IC) phase transition temperature T _i, and the incommensurate - paraelectric (IC-N) phase transition temperature T _c, were observed at 193.24±0.10 and 220.07±0.15 K, respectively. The phase transition temperatures decreased with an increase in Pb²⁺ concentration. The anomaly at Ti disappeared at x=0.251 in the mixed systems of the Pb_2xSn_2(1-x)P₂Se₆. In the crystal of Pb₂P₂Se₆ (x=1.0), no phase transition was observed. The normal heat capacities for the mixed crystals were determined by least squares fitting of the Debye and Einstein functions to the experimental data. The anomalous heat capacities gave the phase transition entropies of 8.5 and 1.5 J mol^-1 K^-1 for x=0. The large transition entropies are consistent with an order-disorder mechanism in the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transitions in x=0. Enzymatic bleaching of organosolv sugarcane bagasse pulps with recombinant xylanase of the fungus Humicola grisea and with commercial cartazyme HS xylanase

Organosolv (ethanol/water and acetosolv) pulps were treated with Humicola grisea var. thermoidea and compared with Cartazyme HS xylanase-treated pulp. The ethanol/water pulps treated with H. grisea had the same viscosity as unbleached pulps (8 cP). Ethanol/water pulps treated with Cartazyme had higher viscosity than H. grisea-treated pulps (12 cP). Acetosolv pulps treated with H. grisea and Cartazyme presented a reduction in viscosity; however, the pulps treated with H. grisea had a lower reduction in viscosity than Cartazyme-treated pulps. Ethanol/water pulps treated with H. grisea had a 23% reduction in kappa number in 4 and 8 h of treatment, compared with the unbleached pulps. Cartazyme-treated pulps had a kappa number similar to that of the control pulps for 4 h of treatment. Extending the treatment time to 12 h resulted in a reduction of 33%. The acetosolv pulp treated with H. grisea had a kappa number reduced to 23% in 4 h. Cartazyme treatment resulted in a reduction of 55 and 44% in kappa number for 4 and 8 h of treatment, respectively, when compared with control pulp. Extending the treatment time to 12 h decreased the kappa number 72%. Fourier transform infrared spectra and principal component analysis showed differences among unbleached, H. grisea-treated, and Cartazyme-treated pulps.     

Reaction pathway and stereoselectivity of asymmetric synthesis of chrysanthemate with the aratani C1-symmetric salicylaldimine-copper catalyst

The reaction pathway and the mechanism of asymmetric induction in the synthesis of (+)-trans-(1R,3R)-chrysanthemic acid methyl ester from methyl diazoacetate and 2,5-dimethyl-2,4-hexadiene in the presence of a C(1)-chiral salicylaldimine Cu(I) complex has been probed with the aid of hybrid density functional calculations. The key finding is that the alkoxycarbonyl carbene complex intermediate is intrinsically chiral and that the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in the carbene complex transmits the chirality information from the side chain to the carbene complex. Molecular orbital backgrounds of the structure of the carbene complex and the transition state of the cyclopropanation have been elucidated.
