On the structure of the monotone asymmetric travelling salesman polytope I: hypohamiltonian facets

The monotone asymmetric travelling salesman polytope P?ⁿ_T is defined to be the convex hull of the incidence vectors of all hamiltonian circuits and all subsets of these in a complete diagraph of order n. We prove that certain hypohamiltonian diagraphs G=(V,E), i.e. diagraphs which are not hamiltonian but such that G–υ is hamiltonian for all υ?V, induce facets x(E)?n–1 of P?ⁿ_T. This result indicates that P?ⁿ_T has very complicated facets and that it is very unlikely that an explicit complete characterization of P?ⁿ_T can ever be given.     

Method for measuring the anomalous magnetic moment of free electrons

It is shown that a previously described method for measuring the spin resonance of free electrons in a trap can also be used to measure their (g-2) anomaly. The electrons are trapped in an electrostatic quadrupole field with a superimposed homogeneous axial magnetic field, and are polarized by spin exchange. The spin and (g-2) resonance are monitored through the spin dependence of the excitation processe+Na (3S)→e+Na(3P). Calculations are made of the energy levels and transition probabilities of the trapped electrons.     

A simple five-step synthesis of a pentadecaalkylcorrin derivative from commercial cyanocobalamin

Dicyano 2,7,18-triethyl-1,2,5,7,12,12,15,17-octamethyl-3,8,13,17-tetrapropyl-Co(III)-corrin has been prepared by reduction of the ester groups of dicyano cobyrinic acid heptamethylester.     

Local moment spin resonance in a Kondo system

The ESR of the system $\text{Yb:}\text{Au}{}_{\mathrm{x}}\text{Ag}{}_{\mathrm{1?x}}$ has been investigated for 0.7 ? x ? 1. The g-shift (Δg) and the temperature derivative of the linewidth $\text{(}\text{ΔH}\text{ΔT}\text{)}$ increase with decreasing Au concentration. For T ? 2°K effects in $\text{(}\text{ΔH}\text{ΔT}\text{)}$ are observed, which are attributed to the Kondo effect.     

Intersecting all edges of centrally symmetric polyhedra by planes

A1 least three planes are needed in order to cut all edges of a 3-dimensional centrally symmetric convex polytope by planes which miss all vertices of the polytope. In contrast, there exist centrally symmetric convex tessellations of the 2-sphere for which two planes are sufficient.     

High spin states and pairing vibrations

The Generator-Coordinate-Method is applied to describe yrast-bands and excited vibrational bands of pairing-vibrational orβ-vibrational type in deformed rare earth nuclei. The model wave functions are supplied by the Pairing+Quadrupole-Model with angular momentum — and particle number projection. Results are shown for the nucleus¹⁷⁰Yb. The question if backbending may be produced by the intersection of the ground and the neutron pairing vibrational band is discussed.
