In this article we report a femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption study of a neutral organic mixed-valence (MV) compound with the aim to gain insight into its charge-transfer dynamics upon optical excitation. The back-electron transfer was investigated in five different solvents, toluene, dibutyl ether, methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE), benzonitrile and n-hexane. In the pump step, the molecule was excited at 760 nm and 850 nm into the intervalence charge-transfer band. The resulting transients can be described by two time constant. We assign one time constant to the rearrangement of solvent molecules in the charge-transfer state and the second time constant to back-electron transfer to the electronic ground state. Back-electron transfer rates range from 1.5 × 1012 s−1 in benzonitrile through 8.3 × 1011 s−1 in MTBE, around 1.6 × 1011 s−1 in dibutylether and toluene and to 3.8 × 109 s−1 in n-hexane.  相似文献

The deposition and the subsequent decomposition of an organometallic precursor, (eta (3)-allyl)(eta (5)-cyclopentadienyl)palladium [Cp(allyl)Pd], on an organic surface exposed by self-assembled monolayers (SAM) was studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS). The interfacial chemical reactions of the vapor-deposited metal precursor with the pendant thiol group of the SAMs made from oligophenyldithiols, which are either prepared directly (terphenyldimethyldithiol, TPDMT) or by a deprotection route from SAMs formed by a monoacylated derivative of biphenyldimethyldithiol (dep. BPDMAc-1) have been studied in detail. When the TPDMT-SAMs were exposed to Cp(allyl)Pd vapor, a Pd (2+)/allyl-terminated SAM surface was obtained (to a lower extent this was also the case for dep. BPDMAc-1 SAMs), which was stable against exposure to H 2 gas. Reduction to Pd (0) by H 2 was only observed when small amounts of Pd (0) were already present, for example, after prolonged exposure to the precursor. The catalytic activity of the small Pd (0) particles also caused a decomposition of the SAMs upon exposure to air.  相似文献

The process of implanting oxygen in polystyrene (PS) via exposure to ultraviolet-ozone (UV-O) was systematically investigated using the characterization technique of near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS). Samples of PS exposed to UV-O for 10-300 s and washed with isopropanol were analyzed using the carbon and oxygen K-edge NEXAFS partial electron yields, using various retarding bias voltages to depth-profile the oxygen penetration into the surface. Evaluation of reference polymers provided a scale to quantify the oxygen concentration implanted by UV-O treatment. We find that ozone initially reacts with the double bonds on the phenyl rings, forming carbonyl groups, but within 1 min of exposure, the ratio of double to single oxygen bonds stabilizes at a lower value. Oxygen penetrates the film with relative ease, creating a fairly uniform distribution of oxygen within at least the first 4 nm (the effective depth probed by NEXAFS here). Before oxygen accumulates in large concentrations, however, it preferentially degrades the uppermost layer of the film by removing oxygenated low-molecular-weight oligomers. The failure to accumulate high concentrations of oxygen is seen in the nearly constant carbon edge jump, the low concentration of oxygen even at 5 min exposure (58% of that in poly(4-acetoxystyrene), the polymer with the most similarities to UV-O-treated PS), and the relatively high contact angles. At 5 min exposure the oxygen concentration contains ca. 7 atomic % oxygen. The oxygen species that are implanted consist predominantly of single O-C bonds and double O=C bonds but also include a small fraction of O-H. UV-O treatment leads a plateau after 2 min exposure in the water contact angle hysteresis, at a value of 67 +/- 2 degrees , due primarily to chemical heterogeneity. Annealing above T(g) allows oxygenated species to move short distances away from the surface but not diffuse further than 1-2 nm.  相似文献

We characterize the assembly of terphenyldithiol (TPDT) on gallium arsenide (GaAs) from ethanol (EtOH) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) as a function of ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) concentration. NH4OH facilitates the conversion of thioacetyl end groups of the TPDT precursor to thiolates in the assembly solution. The final structure of TPDT assembled on GaAs is sensitive not only to the assembly solvent but also to NH4OH concentration. In the presence of low concentrations of NH4OH (1 mM), TPDT assemblies from EtOH are oriented upright. The same assemblies are less upright when adsorption is carried out at higher NH4OH concentrations. In THF, TPDT does not adsorb significantly on GaAs at low NH4OH concentrations. The surface coverage and structural organization of these assemblies improve with increasing NH4OH concentrations, although these assemblies are never as organized as those from EtOH. The difference in the final structure of TPDT assemblies is attributed to differences in the thiolate fraction in the assembly solution at the point of substrate immersion.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine whether temperature scanning ultrasonic velocity measurements could be used to monitor the complex thermal transitions that occur during the crystallization and melting of triglyceride solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs). Ultrasonic velocity ( u) measurements were compared with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements on tripalmitin emulsions that were cooled (from 75 to 5 degrees C) and then heated (from 5 to 75 degrees C) at 0.3 degrees C min (-1). There was an excellent correspondence between the thermal transitions observed in deltaDelta u/delta T versus temperature curves determined by ultrasound and heat flow versus temperature curves determined by DSC. In particular, both techniques were sensitive to the complex melting behavior of the solidified tripalmitin, which was attributed to the dependence of the melting point of the SLNs on particle size. These studies suggest that temperature scanning ultrasonic velocity measurements may prove to be a useful alternative to conventional DSC techniques for monitoring phase transitions in colloidal systems.  相似文献

The surface area and roughness of natural iron oxide precipitations were quantified by 3D optical microscopy in order to get information about fluid-rock interface topography in high-permeability zones. Converged surface roughness data of microscale to submicroscale topography show the predominance of macroporous half-pores (>500 nm) and the occurrence of smaller half-pores (<500 nm) that dominate the BET surface area of iron oxides. A relationship was found between the occurrence of macroporous surface structures (micrometer range) and the uranium content of iron oxide encrustations. Iron-normalized uranium concentrations of an X-ray amorphous iron oxide encrustation correlate linearly with maximum topography heights of 1 to 2 mum on hand specimen subsamples. Our study shows the potential importance of micrometer- to submicrometer-size surface features, whose environmental impact is often ignored.  相似文献

Mixed IrO2–TiO2 oxides were prepared by the sol–gel method by adding an aqueous solution of an iridium(III) acetate precursor [Ir3O(OAc)6 (HOAc)3]OAc, to titanium tetraethoxide in ethanol. By using an acetylacetonate modifier to stabilize the hydrolysed titanium alkoxide and by omitting a catalyst, gels were produced in all cases. Transmission electron microscopy and EDX analysis confirmed the high dispersion of iridium in the dried gel material on the nanometre scale. The images also show spherical cage features up to 20 nm in diameter. High mass losses of the gels in the TGA scans suggested low degrees of hydrolysis of the acetate precursor, but calcination gave a crystalline, mixed oxide (TixIr1–xO2) solid solution. The precursor is also soluble in ethanol, which provides a slightly modified route to similar materials.  相似文献

Convergent total syntheses of the potent cytotoxins (+)-tedanolide (1) and (+)-13-deoxytedanolide (2) are described. The carbon framework of these compounds was assembled via a stereoselective aldol reaction that unifies the C(1)-C(12) ketone fragment 5 with a C(13)-C(23) aldehyde fragment 6 (for 13-deoxytedanolide) or 52 (for tedanolide). Multiple obstacles were encountered en route to (+)-1 and (+)-2 that required very careful selection and orchestration of the stereochemistry and functionality of key intermediates. Chief among these issues was the remarkable stability and lack of reactivity of hemiketals 33b and 34 that prevented the tedanolide synthesis from being completed from aldol 4. Key to the successful completion of the tedanolide synthesis was the observation that the 13-deoxy hemiketal 36 could be oxidized to C(11,15)-diketone 38 en route to 13-deoxytedanolide. This led to the decision to pursue the tedanolide synthesis via C(15)-(S)-epimers, since this stereochemical change would destabilize the hemiketal that plagued the attempted synthesis of tedanolide via C(15)-(R) intermediates. However, use of C(15)-(S)-configured intermediates required that the side-chain epoxide be introduced very late in the synthesis, owing to the ease with which the C(15)-(S)-OH cyclized onto the epoxide of intermediate 50.  相似文献

An improved method for the analysis of carbonyls is described utilizing a headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) step and on-fiber derivatization with O-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine (PFBHA) hydrochloride. Thermal desorption of the oxime derivatives formed on the fiber is followed by gas chromatographic separation coupled to an ion trap tandem mass spectrometer (GC-ITMS). Selecting specific fragment ions within the electron ionization (EI(+)) mass spectra of these oxime derivatives as precursor ions for MS-MS fragmentation provides a suitable method for the target analysis of individual carbonyl classes, such as alkanals, (E)-2-alkenals, (E,E)-2,4-alkadienals, and others. Retention indices on polar as well as on apolar stationary phases along with EI(+) mass spectra patterns are presented for a large set of oxime derivatives, giving valuable information needed for unambiguous assignment of substances in complex sample matrices. The fast sample preparation and derivatization step via HS-SPME can be automated and is applicable to a variety of biological samples and foodstuffs, allowing rapid and sensitive screening analyses of important aldehydic biomarkers and aroma active compounds.  相似文献
