The Transformation Matrix of Vibrational Waves

The general theory on the transformation of elastic waves at a rigid nodal junction of an arbitrary number of thin plates is considered. The notion of transformation marix is introduced, and a way for computing it and numerical examples are given. Properties of the transformation matrix resulted from the reciprocity principle and the energy conservatin law are studied. In particular, a new relation that expresses the energy conservation low for the case where a wave damped in the direction of the joint of plates is a source of a field is obtained. The stable forking conjecture and generic structures

 We prove that for any simple theory which is constructed via Fr?issé-Hrushovski method, if the forking independence is the same as the d-independence then the stable forking property holds. An EOQ model with process reliability considerations

The classical economic order quantity (EOQ) model assumes that items produced are of perfect quality and that the unit cost of production is independent of demand. However, in realistic situations, product quality is never perfect, but is directly affected by the reliability of the production process. In this paper, we consider an EOQ model with imperfect production process and the unit production cost is directly related to process reliability and inversely related to the demand rate. In addition, a numerical example is given to illustrate the developed model. Sensitivity analysis is also performed and discussed.     

Image Formation in Low Vacuum SEM

The role of positive gaseous ions in the formation of secondary electron images in low vacuum scanning electron microscopes is discussed. This paper describes the charging processes and related effects that occur during high vacuum imaging of insulators and then discusses the influence of ions on those processes. The ions are responsible for a number of phenomena, including distortion of the electric field above and below the specimen surface due to space charge, removal of excess negative charge from the specimen, alteration of the specimen surface barrier, and scavenging/filtering of the secondary electron emission. The resulting electron-specimen-ion interactions can give rise to interesting contrast effects that are unique to this class of instruments.     

Appearance of anomalous phase in <Superscript>4</Superscript>He crystal in the presence of small <Superscript>3</Superscript>He impurity

The kinetics of formation of an anomalous phase from a solution with a small ³He impurity was studied in the temperature range 0.2–0.7 K up to a supersaturation of ～30 mbar. The phase diagram was determined for normal and anomalous growths. It is found that, in the presence of impurities, the formation of a fast-growing state is retarded. This experimental fact indicates that the dissipative processes in fluids have an appreciable effect on the phase formation kinetics. The retardation is, possibly, caused by the direct interaction of an impurity with the crystal surface.
