We compare desorption of positive ions from lithium fluoride single crystals following pulsed laser excitation using either femtosecond (180 fs, 265 nm) or nanosecond (3 ns, 266 nm) sources. Following optical excitation, desorbed ions are mass analyzed using standard time-of-flight techniques. Several important differences between nanosecond and femtosecond excitation are revealed. Femtosecond excitation produces higher kinetic energy Li+ than does nanosecond excitation (10 eV vs. 5 eV) while nanosecond excitation yields significant quantities of impurity ions Na+ and K+, in addition to efficient Li+ emission. The Li+ desorption threshold is similar for both laser sources. This similarity is a surprising result, as sub-bandgap nanosecond pulses are only likely to excite defect states efficiently (via linear excitation), while the ultrahigh peak-power femtosecond pulses could in principle induce multiphoton and avalanche excitation. Femtosecond excitation results in much less complicated time-of-flight spectra, as predominantly Li+ is detected with some H+ also observed. We have measured the Li+ yield as a function of time delay between two sub-threshold femtosecond laser pulses. We find that the majority of the Li+ yield decays rapidly, largely within the fs pulse duration. However, a weak but measurable decay component of approximately 2 ps is indicated.  相似文献

Edible films and coatings with good mechanical/physical properties are highly required for carrying medical substances and food packaging. So, solvent-cast films of α- or β-chitosan filled with palygorskite, montmorillonite or geopolymer-containing material (GCM), were prepared, and the effects of their clay contents (up to 50 wt.%) on the mechanical/physical properties were assessed. The microstructure of the films was investigated using FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM and thermal analysis. The results showed that, except for the films composed of GCM and β-chitosan, the mechanical properties of the films with limited (up to 5 wt.%) to moderate (5–25 wt.%) amounts of fillers increased as a result of the attractive electrostatic forces formed between the fillers and chitosan functional groups (–NH3+, CH2OH and NHCOCH3). However, due to the occurrence of coarse aggregates, the strength of filler-rich films declined. The addition of fillers led to an increase in porosity and water absorption of the films, but it had irregular effects on their wettability and water vapor transmission rate. These observations as well as the thermal stability of the films were discussed in relation to the characterization results.  相似文献

Polarization modulation instability (PMI) in birefringent photonic crystal fibers has been observed in the normal dispersion regime with a frequency shift of 64 THz between the generated frequencies and the pump frequency. The generated sidebands are orthogonally polarized to the pump. From the observed PMI frequency shift and the measured dispersion, we determined the phase birefringence to be 5.3 x 10(-5) at a pump wavelength of 647.1 nm. This birefringence was used to estimate the PMI gain as a function of pump wavelength. Four-wave mixing experiments in both the normal and the anomalous dispersion regimes generated PMI frequency shifts that show good agreement with the predicted values over a 70 THz range. These results could lead to amplifiers and oscillators based on PMI.  相似文献

To develop a model system containing regularly spaced misfit dislocations for studies of the radiation resistance of nanoscale defects, epitaxial thin films of Cr, Mo, and Cr(x)Mo(1-x) alloys were deposited on MgO(001) by molecular beam epitaxy. Film compositions were chosen to vary the lattice mismatch with MgO. The film structure was investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Epitaxial films with reasonably high crystalline quality and abrupt interfaces were achieved at a relatively low deposition temperature, as confirmed by STEM. However, it was found by XRD and RBS in the channeling geometry that increasing the Mo content of the CrMo alloy films degraded the crystalline quality, despite the improved lattice match with MgO. XRD rocking curve data indicated that regions of different crystalline order may be present within the films with higher Mo content. This is tentatively ascribed to spinodal decomposition into Cr-rich and Mo-rich regions, as predicted by the Cr(x)Mo(1-x) phase diagram.  相似文献

We report the implementation of a fully relativistic time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) method for carrying out x-ray absorption spectroscopy calculations for extended systems. This is the first time that a TDDFT simulation of x-ray absorption in extended systems has featured a full potential ground state calculation. We prove that this unusual feature of the TDDFT implementation unequivocally yields improvement over the previous muffin-tin calculation methods.  相似文献

We are interested in the numerical simulation of wave propagation in media which are a local perturbation of an infinite periodic one. The question of finding artificial boundary conditions to reduce the actual numerical computations to a neighborhood of the perturbation via a DtN operator was already developed in [1] at the continuous level. We deal in this article with the numerical aspects associated to the discretization of the problem. In particular, we describe the construction of discrete DtN operators that relies on the numerical solution of local cell problems, non stationary Ricatti equations and the discretization of non standard integral equations in Floquet variables.  相似文献

We use photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) to image 3 μm diameter polystyrene spheres supported on a metal thin film illuminated by 400 nm (~3.1 eV) and 800 nm (~1.5 eV) femtosecond (fs) laser pulses. Intense photoemission is generated by microspheres even though polystyrene is an insulator and its ionization threshold is well above the photon energies employed. We observe intense photoemission from the far side (the side opposite the incident light) of the illuminated microsphere that is attributed to light focusing within the microsphere. For the case of p-polarized, 800 nm fs laser pulses, we observe photoemission exclusively from the far side of the microsphere and additionally resolve sub-50 nm hot spots in the supporting Pt∕Pd thin film that are located only within the focal region of the microsphere. We compare the PEEM images with finite difference time domain (FDTD) electrodynamic simulations to model our experimental results. The FDTD simulations predict light focusing in the microsphere and subsequent interaction with the supporting metal surface that is consistent with the experimental observations.  相似文献

Several series of recently synthesized chiral azobenzene liquid crystals exhibit transitions driven by both illumination and temperature: some compounds can be 'melted' from the SmC* phase to the isotropic phase by increasing illumination only; according to the phase sequences, SmA, TGBA, N*, and blue phases are also involved in such behaviour. The observed phenomena are reversible and transition temperatures are reproducible in identical light conditions. Some specific transitions have been studied. Their temperatures can be lowered to 10 degrees below the dark transition values by increasing the illumination of samples. Under illumination, those transitions exhibit first order behaviour.  相似文献

We prove the existence of guided waves propagating with a velocity strictly larger than the S (shear) wave velocity at infinity in the case of unbounded elastic media invariant under translation in one space direction and asymptotically homogeneous at infinity.
