The analytical performance of three uncoated electrographite tubes, three pyro-coated electrographite tubes, one tantalum carbide (TaC) coated electrographite tube, and three totally pyrolytic graphite (TPG) tubes has been evaluated and compared. A test programme was devised to determine the useful operational lifetime of each tube, and assess the influence of tube age on the sensitivity of lead, manganese and vanadium measurements by atomic absorption spectrometry. The TPG tubes were found to be more durable than the other types studied, but the lifetime advantage depended on the thickness of the pyrolytic graphite. The best TPG tube, of 720 μm wall-thickness, lasted 2.5 times longer than the pyro-coated tubes, and 5 times longer than the uncoated electrographite tubes.The TPG tubes gave slightly poorer AAS sensitivity for lead, equivalent sensitivity for manganese, and 4 times better sensitivity for vanadium than the pyro-coated electrographite tubes. Also, with TPG, signal magnitude was more consistent throughout the lifetime of a tube. For each of the test elements studied, poorest sensitivity was encountered with the TaC-coated electrographite tube. 相似文献

The reactions of the Mn(III)(3) and Mn(II)Mn(III)(2) complexes [Mn(3)O(O(2)CEt)(6)(py)(3)][ClO(4)] and [Mn(3)O(O(2)CEt)(6)(py)(3)] with pyridine-2,6-dimethanol (pdmH(2)) afford the mixed-valence Mn(II)(6)Mn(III)(2) octanuclear complex [Mn(8)O(2)(py)(4)(O(2)CEt)(8)(L)(2)][ClO(4)](2) (1) and the Mn(II)(7)Mn(III)(2) enneanuclear complex [Mn(9)(O(2)CEt)(12)(pdm)(pdmH)(2)(L)(2)] (2), respectively. Both compounds contain a novel pentadentate ligand, the dianion of (6-hydroxymethylpyridin-2-yl)-(6-hydroxymethylpyridin-2-ylmethoxy)methanol (LH(2)), which is the hemiacetal formed in situ from the Mn-assisted oxidation of pdmH(2). Complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with the following cell parameters at -160 degrees C: a = 16.6942(5) A, b = 13.8473(4) A, c = 20.0766(6) A, beta = 99.880(1) degrees, V = 4572.27 A(3), and Z = 2, R (R(w)) = 4.78 (5.25). Complex 2.0.2MeCN crystallizes in the triclinic space group Ponemacr; with the following cell parameters at -157 degrees C: a = 12.1312(4) A, b = 18.8481(6) A, c = 23.2600(7) A, alpha = 78.6887(8) degrees, beta = 77.9596(8) degrees, gamma = 82.3176(8) degrees, V = 5076.45 A(3), and Z = 2, R (R(w)) = 4.12 (4.03). Both complexes are new structural types comprising distorted-cubane units linked together, albeit in two very different ways. In addition, complex 2 features three distinct binding modes for the chelating ligands derived from deprotonated pdmH(2). Complexes 1 and 2 were characterized by variable-temperature ac and dc magnetic susceptibility measurements and found to possess spin ground states of 0 and 11/2, respectively. Least-squares fitting of the reduced magnetization data gave S = 11/2, g = 2.0, and D = -0.11 cm(-1) for complex 2, where D is the axial zero-field splitting parameter. Direct current magnetization versus field studies on 2 at <1 K show hysteresis behavior at <0.3 K, establishing 2 as a new single-molecule magnet. Magnetization decay measurements gave an effective barrier to magnetization relaxation of U(eff) = 3.1 cm(-1) = 4.5 K. 相似文献

If chemistry is to be taught successfully, teachers must have a good subject matter knowledge (SK) of the ideas with which they are dealing, the nature of this falling within the orbit of philosophy of chemistry. They
must also have a good pedagogic content knowledge (PCK), the ability to communicate SK to students, the nature of this falling within the philosophy and psychology of chemical
education. Taking the case of models and modelling, important themes in the philosophy of chemistry, an interview-based study
was conducted into the SK and PCK of a sample of teachers in Brazil. This paper focuses on the results of the university chemistry
teacher sub-sample in that enquiry, analyses their SK and PCK, and speculates on the implications of this for the education
of school teachers. Finally, it suggests approaches to the professional development of university chemistry teachers that
place an emphasis on the philosophy of chemistry.

The combination of potassium tert-butoxide and triethylsilane is unusual because it generates multiple different types of reactive intermediates simultaneously that provide access to (i) silyl radical reactions, (ii) hydrogen atom transfer reactions to closed shell molecules and to radicals, (iii) electron transfer reductions and (iv) hydride ion chemistry, giving scope for unprecedented outcomes. Until now, reactions with this reagent pair have generally been explained by reference to one of the intermediates, but we now highlight the interplay and competition between them.The combination of potassium tert-butoxide and triethylsilane provides simultaneous access to multiple reactive intermediates, radicals, H-atom donors, hydride donors and electron donors, giving scope for unprecedented reaction outcomes. 相似文献

This study investigates the aggregation in cyclohexane of silica particles initially stabilized by grafted polystyrene and destabilized by temperature reduction. It complements an earlier study by Zhu and Napper (P.W. Zhu, D.H. Napper, Phys. Rev. E 50 (1994) 1360) in which the aggregation of polystyrene latex particles with tethered poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) in water was investigated. Their dynamic light scattering results showed that both the rate of aggregation and the aggregate fractal dimension increased with a sufficient decrease in the PNIPAM adlayer solvency, achieved by means of either salt (NaNO3) addition or temperature rise. This result stands in contrast to those obtained when an electrostatically stabilized colloid is destabilized, i.e., that the more rapidly aggregates are formed, the lower the resulting fractal dimension. The authors explained their results in terms of the effects of both salt effects and increased temperature on the extent of the hydrophobic interactions between the adlayer-covered surfaces in the water. The present study examines a sterically-stabilized colloid in a nonaqueous solvent, where neither salt effects nor hydrophobic effects play a role. Temperature is decreased to bring the system from better-than-theta-conditions to worse-than-theta-conditions. Power-law aggregation kinetics are observed at 15.7 degrees C by dynamic light scattering. The particles first undergo reduced rate aggregation, producing low-fractal-dimension aggregates, which after some time, restructure into more compact aged clusters. The fractal dimension of these aged clusters increases with increasing initial aggregation rate, consistent with results seen by Zhu and Napper, but without the presence of hydrophobic effects. The ability of the polymer-grafted particles to rearrange suggests aggregation into a secondary minimum, with the ability to slide over one another to achieve a more energetically favorable, denser configuration. The reversible nature of the aggregation is verified by additional experiments gradually bringing the system from worse-than-theta-conditions back to better-than-theta-conditions, with an attendant decrease in aggregate fractal dimension, and ultimately full redispersion. 相似文献

A20FMDV2 is a 20-mer peptide that exhibits high selectivity and affinity for the tumour-related αvβ6 integrin that can compete with extracellular ligands for the crucial RGD binding site, playing a role as a promising αvβ6-specific inhibitor for anti-cancer therapies. Unfortunately, the clinical value of A20FMDV2 is limited by its poor half-life in blood caused by rapid renal excretion and its reported high susceptibility to serum proteases. The incorporation of poly (ethylene glycol) chains, coined PEGylation, is a well-established approach to improve the pharmacokinetic properties of drug molecules. Here, we report a systematic study on the incorporation of a varying number of ethylene glycol units (1–20) into the A20FMDV2 peptide to establish the effects of PEGylation size on the peptide stability in both rat serum and human plasma. In addition, the effect of acetyl and propionyl PEGylation handles on peptide stability is also described. Selected peptide analogues were assessed for integrin-αvβ6-targeted binding, showing good specificity and activity in vitro. Stability studies in rat serum established that all of the PEGylated peptides displayed good stability, and an A20FMDV2 peptide containing twenty ethylene glycol units (PEG20) was the most stable. Surprisingly, the stability testing in human plasma identified shorter PEGs (PEG2 and PEG5) as more resistant to degradation than longer PEGs, a trend which was also observed with affinity binding to integrin αvβ6. 相似文献
