A method for the high-throughput analysis of human serum for the 38 most prevalent polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) based on the use of fast gas chromatography-isotopic dilution time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-IDTOFMS) is presented. The chromatographic separation time was 8 min. The separation of the congeners was carried out either chromatographically or analytically using the mass spectral deconvolution capability of the TOFMS. The instrument and the method limits of detection (LODs) were 0.5 pg microL(-1) and 20 pg microL(-1), respectively, which is not as good as the one achieved using high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) but allows the detection and quantification of the prevalent PCBs present in real human serum samples. The dynamic range covered 3 orders of magnitude. The comparison with the high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) reference method (28 min) was good and some separation improvements have been observed. The analysis of the excess dielectric properties for various binary mixtures and a ternary mixture is demonstrated using a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor. Strong deviations from ideality are seen using SPR to monitor deviations in the dielectric properties following mixing. Binary mixtures with similar refractive index were measured: hexanes/isopropanol, n-heptanes/propanol, 1-acetoxy-2-methoxyethane/2-methoxyethanol, butanol/dipropylamine, hexanes/ethylacetate, and ethylacetate/isopropanol binary mixtures. The ternary mixture was composed of 60 different proportions of hexanes, isopropanol, and ethylacetate. Using SPR, mixing dynamics is easily accessible. This work addresses novel means for controlled mixing and reaction initiation in biomimetic confined compartments having volume elements in the range of 10(-12) to 10(-15) L. The method is based on mixing fluids using a two-site injection scheme into growing surfactant vesicles. A solid-state injection needle is inserted into a micrometer-sized vesicle (radius 5-25 microm), and by pulling on the needle, we create a nanoscale surfactant channel connecting injection needle and the vesicle. Injection of a solvent A from the needle into the nanotube results in the formation of a growing daughter vesicle at the tip of the needle in which mixing takes place. The growth of the daughter vesicle requires a flow of surfactants in the nanotube that generates a flow of solvent B inside the nanotube which is counterdirectional to the pressure-injected solvent. The volume ratio psi between solvent A and B inside the mixing vesicle was analyzed and found to depend only on geometrical quantities. The majority of fluid injected to the growing daughter vesicle comes from the pressure-based injection, and for a micrometer-sized vesicle it dominates. For the formation of one daughter vesicle (conjugated with a 100-nm radius tube) expanded from 1 to 200 microm in radius, the mixing ratios cover almost 3 orders of magnitude. We show that the system can be expanded to linear strings of nanotube-conjugated vesicles that display exponential dilution. Mixing ratios spanning 6 orders of magnitude were obtained in strings of three nanotube-conjugated micrometer-sized daughter vesicles. 相似文献

We present experimental results obtained in a turbulent boundary layer at a Mach number of 2.3 impinged by an oblique shock
wave. Strong unsteadiness is developed in the interaction, involving several frequency ranges which can extend over two orders
of magnitude. In this paper, attention is focused on the links between the low-frequency shock motions and the separation
bubble, in particular phase relationships are evaluated. An interpretation based on a simple scheme of the streamwise evolution
of the instantaneous pressure is proposed. As it is mainly based on the pressure signal properties inside the region of the
shock oscillation, it may be expected that it will still be relevant for different configurations of shock-induced separation

Photonic bandgap fibers for transverse illumination containing half-wavelength microcavities have recently been designed and fabricated. We report on the fabrication and characterization of an all-optical tunable microcavity fiber. The fiber is made by incorporating a photorefractive material inside a Fabry-Perot cavity structure with a quality factor Q >200 operating at 1.5 microm. Under short-wavelength transverse external illumination, a 2 nm reversible shift of the cavity resonant mode is achieved. Dynamic all-optical tuning is reported at frequencies up to 400 Hz. Experimental results are compared with simulations based on the amplitude and kinetics of the transient photodarkening effect measured in situ in thin films. 相似文献

A diarylbutadiyne derivative was synthesized using a few steps and gelified in aromatic solvents. The gel prepared at low concentration is made of micrometers-long nanofibrils as shown by scanning electron microscopy. XRD of the dried gel shows sharp features, revealing a well-organized material. A peptide self-assembled monolayer (SAM) was designed to bind His-tagged biomolecules for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) bioanalysis, which was applied for the determination of K(d) for small ligand screening against CD36. Nonspecific adsorption could be minimized using penta- and hexa-peptide monolayers. In particular, monolayers consisting of 3-mercaptopropionyl-leucinyl-histidinyl-aspartyl-leucinyl-histidinyl-aspartic acid (3-Mpa-LHDLHD) exhibited little (12 ng cm(-2)) nonspecific adsorption in crude serum. Modification of this peptide monolayer with Nα,Nα-bis(carboxymethyl)-L-lysine gave a surface competent for binding His-tagged proteins, as demonstrated using enzyme (human dihydrofolate reductase), protein/antibody and receptor (CD36) examples. Immobilization featured chelation of copper and the His-tagged protein by the peptide monolayer, which could be recycled by removing the copper using imidazole washes prior to reuse. 相似文献
