Magnetostrictive behaviour of Fe73.5Si13.5B9Nb3−xMoxCu1 alloys

Magnetostriction, dilatation and calorimetric measurements were performed on FINEMET type as-quenched and heat treated ribbons. Nb was gradually replaced by Mo in order to study the influence of the refractory elements exchange on several magnetostriction parameters. The results could be correlated with magnetic and structural transformations throughout thermal treatments and assured that the whole series is suitable for technical applications.     

Molecular dynamics of liquid alkaline-earth metals near the melting point

Results of the studies of the properties like binding energy, the pair distribution function g(r), the structure factor S(q), specific heat at constant volume, velocity autocorrelation function (VACF), radial distribution function, self-diffusion coefficient and coordination number of alkaline-earth metals (Be, Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba) near melting point using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation technique using a pseudopotential proposed by us are presented in this article. Good agreement with the experiment is achieved for the binding energy, pair distribution function and structure factor, and these results compare favourably with the results obtained by other such calculations, showing the transferability of the pseudopotential used from solid to liquid environment in the case of alkaline-earth metals.     

Beyond linear response spectroscopy of ultracold fermi gases

We study rf spectroscopy of ultracold Fermi gas by going beyond the linear response in the field-matter interaction. Higher order perturbation theory allows virtual processes and energy conservation beyond the single-particle level. We formulate an effective higher order theory, which agrees quantitatively with experiments on the pairing gap and is consistent with the absence of the mean-field shift in the spin-flip experiment.     

Construction of analytically tractable mean-field theories for quantum models

A general theoretical framework for the construction of maximally complex, yet analytically tractable mean-field theories for quantum-mechanical models is presented. These mean-field theories fulfil several strict conditions which are derived from analogous theories in classical statistical mechanics. In particular, they are thermodynamically consistent, conserving approximations and provide exact bounds on the free energy of the original model. The formalism is used to construct a mean-field theory for the Hubbard model in thestrong-coupling limit.     

Phonon dispersion relation of liquid metals

The phonon dispersion curves of some liquid metals, viz. Na (Z = 1), Mg (Z = 2), Al (Z = 3) and Pb (Z = 4), have been computed using our model potential. The charged hard sphere (CHS) reference system is applied to describe the structural information. Our model potential along with CHS reference system is capable of explaining the phonon dispersion relation for monovalent, divalent, trivalent and tetravalent liquid metals.     

Estimates for certain Orlicz-Sobolev capacities of an Euclidean ball

We calculate certain Orlicz-Sobolev capacities of an Euclidian n-dimensional ball.     

Existence of energy-minimal diffeomorphisms between doubly connected domains

The paper establishes the existence of homeomorphisms between two planar domains that minimize the Dirichlet energy.     

Sobolev Spaces with Zero Boundary Values on Metric Spaces

We generalize the definition of the first order Sobolev spaces with zero boundary values to an arbitrary metric space endowed with a Borel regular measure. We show that many classical results extend to the metric setting. These include completeness, lattice properties and removable sets.
