We propose a method to create a monopole structure in a multicomponent condensate by applying the basic methods used to create vortices and solitons experimentally in single-component condensates. We also show that by using a two-component structure for a monopole, we can avoid many problems related to the previously suggested three-component monopole. We discuss the observation and dynamics of such a monopole structure, and note that the dynamics of the two-component monopole differs from the dynamics of the three-component monopole. 相似文献

By using a self-referencing technique, we have experimentally measured the influence of the carrier-envelope phase of femtosecond light pulses on the phase of the electric field of the radiation produced by high-order harmonic generation. We study a quasi-two-dimensional superfluid Fermi gas where the confinement in the third direction is due to a strong harmonic trapping. We investigate the behavior of such a system when the chemical potential is varied and find strong modifications of the superfluid properties due to the discrete harmonic oscillator states. We show how the low-frequency dependence of the proton spin-lattice relaxation time T1(nu) of octylcyanobiphenyl liquid crystals confined in high-density silica gels evidences a long-range order nematic phase in spite of the strong confinement and random disorder of the gels. The universal value and frequency dependence observed, T1(nu) proportional, variant nu(2/3), is interpreted within a relaxation model due to director fluctuations in nematic liquid crystals confined to mass fractal porous media. The model provides a relation T1(nu) proportional, variant nu(2-d/2), giving a reliable value of the structural fractal dimension d(f)=2.67 for all the host silica gels. 相似文献

Neutron scattering studies of single crystal LiNiPO4 reveal a spontaneous first-order commensurate-incommensurate magnetic phase transition. Short- and long-range incommensurate phases are intermediate between the high temperature paramagnetic and the low temperature antiferromagnetic phases. The modulated structure has a predominant antiferromagnetic component, giving rise to satellite peaks in the vicinity of the fundamental antiferromagnetic Bragg reflection, and a ferromagnetic component, giving rise to peaks at small momentum transfers around the origin at (0,+/-Q,0). The wavelength of the modulated magnetic structure varies continuously with temperature. It is argued that the incommensurate short- and long-range phases are due to spin-dimensionality crossover from a continuous to the discrete Ising state. 相似文献

We present Monte Carlo simulations of diskotic molecules using the Gay-Berne potential in a slab geometry. The disk-wall interaction is described by two different functions according to whether or not the equilibrium distance is dependent on the relative orientation of the disk to the wall. Furthermore, by changing the parameters of these potentials, we model either homeotropic (face-on) or planar (edge-on) anchoring of the disks. We have found that the isotropic-nematic transition does not change in comparison with the bulk situation. The temperature of the nematic-columnar transition, on the contrary, is found to increase for homeotropic anchoring, and decrease for planar anchoring, independently of the details of the potential. We explain the decrease of the transition temperature in the planar anchoring situation as the result of an induced frustration, due to the competition between the two orientations induced independently by the upper and lower walls. 相似文献

We investigate experimentally the influence of suspended particles on the transition to turbulence. The particles are monodisperse and neutrally buoyant with the liquid. The role of the particles on the transition depends upon both the pipe to particle diameter ratios and the concentration. For large pipe-to-particle diameter ratios the transition is delayed while it is lowered for small ratios. A scaling is proposed to collapse the departure from the critical Reynolds number for pure fluid as a function of concentration into a single master curve. 相似文献

Functional electro-optic polymer thin films embedded in microcavity structures have been poled by an all-optical procedure based on the interference of multiphoton absorption processes. The photoinduced X((2)) tensor was then further addressed at modal resonance for the fundamental wavelength, leading to significant enhancement of the second-harmonic-generation efficiency. An order-of-magnitude enhancement, which is due to electric field resonant conditions inside the microcavity, has been probed by an optical parametric oscillator, in comparison with a single-path thin-film configuration.
