Annealing behavior of a void network in amorphous silicon

A void network in a-Si films prepared by vacuum deposition was studied. A close relationship in annealing behavior has been observed between the changes in surface area of voids and in the ESR signal strength.     

Highly meso-Diastereoselective Pinacol Coupling of Aromatic Aldehydes Mediated by Al Powder/Copper Sulfate in Water

Pinacol-type coupling reaction products presenting a high meso-diastereoselectivity (the ratio dl/meso was 4/96 up to 1/99) were obtained in fair to good yields (24–69%) using several aromatic aldehydes as starting materials and aluminium powder/copper sulfate as catalysts, in water, under reflux conditions.     

Y-931, a novel atypical antipsychotic drug,is less sensitive to oxidative phenomena

The oxidation behavior of Y-931, a potent atypical antipsychotic drug, was compared with that of clozapine and olanzapine. In two enzymatic systems (horseradish peroxidase (HRP)/glutathione (GSH) and HRP/H(2)O(2)/GSH) which generate thiyl radicals, clozapine markedly strengthened the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal for the radical. Olanzapine, Y-931 and the major metabolites (compounds 1-3) had no or minimal effect on the intensity of this signal. In addition, the redox potential values for the three derivatives were in accord with the EPR spin trapping results. In toxicological experiments in human leukocytes, a concentration-dependent toxicity was observed when neutrophils were incubated with clozapine (1-10 micromol/l) and H(2)O(2) (1 mmol/l). However, Y-931 and olanzapine did not show remarkable toxicity under the conditions.     

Medicinal flowers. VI. Absolute stereostructures of two new flavanone glycosides and a phenylbutanoid glycoside from the flowers of Chrysanthemum indicum L.: their inhibitory activities for rat lens aldose reductase

Two new flavanone glycosides, (2S)- and (2R)-eriodictyol 7-O-beta-D-glucopyranosiduronic acids, and a new phenylbutanoid glycoside, (2S, 3S)-1-phenyl-2,3-butanediol 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, were isolated from the flowers of Chrysanthemum indicum L. cultivated in China together with eight flavonoids. The absolute stereostructures of the new compounds were determined on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence. Both of the new flavanone glycosides were found to show inhibitory activity for rat lens aldose reductase.     

Short and flexible route to 3,4-diarylpyrrole marine alkaloids: syntheses of permethyl storniamide A, ningalin B, and lamellarin G trimethyl ether

A highly efficient route to 3,4-diarylpyrrole marine alkaloids has been developed using Hinsberg-type pyrrole synthesis and palladium-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling of the 3,4-dihydroxypyrrole bis-triflate derivatives as key reactions. Based on this approach, formal syntheses of permethyl storniamide A and ningalin B, and a total synthesis of lamellarin G trimethyl ether have been achieved.     

Synthesis of maremycins A and D1 via cycloaddition of a nitrone with (E)-3-ethylidene-1-methylindolin-2-one

A concise synthesis of maremycins A and D1 has been accomplished via cycloaddition of a chiral cyclic nitrone with ( E)-3-ethylidene-1-methylindolin-2-one as a key step. This synthesis clarifies the stereochemistry of the maremycins and is suitable for large-scale synthesis for biological screening.     

Dansyl-Modified γ-Cyclodextrin as a fluorescent sensor for molecular recognition

The crystal structure of thiamine iodide sesquihydrate has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods as a host-guest model for coenzyme-substrate interactions. The asymmetric unit contains two chemical units. Both the thiamine molecules A and B, which are crystallographically independent, assume the usualF conformation and have a disordered hydroxyethyl side chain. An iodide anion (or a water molecule) bridges the pyrimidine and thiazolium rings of molecule A (or B) by forming a hydrogen bond with the amino group and an electrostatic contact with the thiazolium ring to stabilize the molecular conformation. In the crystal the thiamine molecules self-associate to form a pipe-like polymeric structure, in which four thiamine hosts surround an iodide guest and hold it through C(2)-H...I hydrogen bonds and thiazolium...I electrostatic interactions. Crystal data: C₁₂H₁₇N₄OS⁺·I^– · 1.5 H₂O, monoclinic,P2₁/c, a=12.585(2), b=25.303(5), c=12.030(2) Å, =115.15(1)°,V=3468(1) ų,Z=8,D _c=1.606 g cm^–3,R=0.045 for 3328 observed reflections. Solvent-dependent conformational switching of the aromatic N-methyl amides depending upon the acceptor properties of solvents

An aromatic N-methyl amide containing N-(2-pyridyl) and 2,6-pyridinedicarboxamide moieties switches its conformation from cis to trans depending upon the acceptor number of solvents.
