Intramolecular cyclization of ketene containing both acyl andN-alkylimidoyl substituents. Synthesis and crystal and molecular structure of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-2H,4H-furo[3,2-c] isoquinolin-2-one

Thermal decarbonylation of 1-benzyl-4,5-dibenzoyl-2,3-dihydropyrrole-2,3-dione yields benzoyl[N-benzyl(phenylglyoxalimidoyl)]ketene. The latter undergoes intramolecular cyclization to 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrofuro[3,2-c]isoquinolin-2-one. Which is oxidized to 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-2H,4H-furo[3,2-c]isoquinolin-2-one under the reaction conditions. Chemical reactions of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-4,5,7-trimethylpyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine and its 2-formyl derivative

N-Alkyl substituted tetrahydropyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridines have been obtained by alkylation of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-4,-5, 7-trimethylpyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine and its 2-formyl derivative chloroalkyldimethylamines, acrylonitrile, methyl acetylenedicarboxylate and dichloroethane. 2-Formyl substituted tetrahydropyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine has been reduced with sodium borohydride and condensed with monoethanolamine and hydroxylamine. Neutron activation analysis of an Egyptian cigarette and its ash

The concentration of 28 elements in tobacco and cigarette paper in an Egyptian Cigarette were determined using instrumental neutron activation analysis. These elements are: Al, As, Ba, Br, Ca, Ce, Cl, Co, Cr, Cs, Eu, Fe, Hf, K, La, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Rb, Sb, Sc, Se, Sr, Th, Ti, V and Zn. The cigarette filter (before and after normal smoking) and the produced ash were analyzed to determine the adsorption of the elements on the filter and their remains in ash. The material balance for the determined elements were calculated.     

Phase transitions and metastable states in TlGaSe2

The results of measurements of the dielectric constant of TlGaSe₂ in temperature range of successive phase transitions are presented. An anomaly in the temperature dependence of the real part of dielectric constant in TlGaSe₂ has been observed at about 242?K in addition to anomalies at 115, 108, and also near 65?K as reported in previous publications. The presence of temperature hysteresis effects in temperature interval between 115 and 242?K allowed making a conclusion about possible existence of an incommensurate phase in the mentioned temperature range. A model of succession of the structural phase transitions in TlGaSe₂ has been suggested.     

Computational Insights into Different Mechanisms for Ag-, Cu-, and Pd-Catalyzed Cyclopropanation of Alkenes and Sulfonyl Hydrazones

The [2+1] cycloaddition reaction of a metal carbene with an alkene can produce important cyclopropane products for synthetic intermediates, materials, and pharmaceutical applications. However, this reaction is often accompanied by side reactions, such as coupling and self-coupling, so that the yield of the cyclopropanation product of non-silver transition-metal carbenes and hindered alkenes is generally lower than 50 %. To solve this problem, the addition of a low concentration of diazo compound (decomposition of sulfonyl hydrazones) to alkenes catalyzed by either CuOAc or PdCl₂ was studied, but side reactions could still not be avoided. Interestingly, however, the yield of cyclopropanation products for such hindered alkenes were as high as 99 % with AgOTf as a catalyst. To explain this unexpected phenomenon, reaction pathways have been computed for four different catalysts by using DFT. By combining the results of these calculations with those obtained experimentally, it can be concluded that the efficiency of the silver catalyst is due to the barrierless concerted cycloaddition step and the kinetic inhibition of side reactions by a high concentration of alkene.
