In the parameter estimation of limit extreme value distributions, most employed methods only use some of the available data. Using the peaks-over-threshold method for Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD), only the observations above a certain threshold are considered; therefore, a big amount of information is wasted. The aim of this work is to make the most of the information provided by the observations in order to improve the accuracy of Bayesian parameter estimation. We present two new Bayesian methods to estimate the parameters of the GPD, taking into account the whole data set from the baseline distribution and the existing relations between the baseline and the limit GPD parameters in order to define highly informative priors. We make a comparison between the Bayesian Metropolis–Hastings algorithm with data over the threshold and the new methods when the baseline distribution is a stable distribution, whose properties assure we can reduce the problem to study standard distributions and also allow us to propose new estimators for the parameters of the tail distribution. Specifically, three cases of stable distributions were considered: Normal, Lévy and Cauchy distributions, as main examples of the different behaviors of the tails of a distribution. Nevertheless, the methods would be applicable to many other baseline distributions through finding relations between baseline and GPD parameters via studies of simulations. To illustrate this situation, we study the application of the methods with real data of air pollution in Badajoz (Spain), whose baseline distribution fits a Gamma, and show that the baseline methods improve estimates compared to the Bayesian Metropolis–Hastings algorithm.  相似文献

Clinacanthus nutans is known to be an anticancer and antiviral agent, and Strobilanthes crispus has proven to be an antidiuretic and antidiabetic agent. However, there is a high possibility that these plants possess multiple beneficial properties, such as antimicrobial and wound healing properties. This study aims to assess the wound healing, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties of Clinacanthus nutans and Strobilanthes crispus. The Clinacanthus nutans and Strobilanthes crispus leaves were dried, ground, and extracted with ethanol, acetone, and chloroform through cold maceration. In a modified scratch assay with co-incubation of skin fibroblast and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Clinacanthus nutans and Strobilanthes crispus extracts were assessed for their wound healing potential, and the antimicrobial activities of Clinacanthus nutans and Strobilanthes crispus extracts were performed on a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria on Mueller–Hinton agar based on a disc diffusion assay. To assess for antioxidant potential, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), total phenolic and total flavonoid assays were conducted. In the modified scratch assay, Clinacanthus nutans extracts aided in the wound healing activity while in the presence of MRSA, and Strobilanthes crispus extracts were superior in antimicrobial and wound healing activities. In addition, Strobilanthes crispus extracts were superior to Clinacanthus nutans extracts against Pseudomonas aeruginosa on Mueller–Hinton agar. Acetone-extracted Clinacanthus nutans contained the highest level of antioxidant in comparison with other Clinacanthus nutans extracts.  相似文献

An effective and sustainable process capable of simultaneously execute desulfurization and denitrogenation of fuels is in fact an actual necessity in the refinery industry. The key to achieve this goal is the parallel oxidation of sulfur and nitrogen compounds present in fuels, which is only achieved by an active and recovered catalyst. A novel heterogeneous catalyst was successfully prepared by the encapsulation of an imidazolium-based polyoxometalate (POM) into a ZIF-8 framework ([BMIM]PMo12@ZIF-8). This composite material revealed exceptional catalytic efficiency to concurrently proceed with the oxidative desulfurization and denitrogenation of a multicomponent model fuel containing various sulfur and nitrogen compounds. A complete removal of all these compounds was achieved after only one hour and the catalyst system was able to be reused for ten consecutive cycles without loss of efficiency. In fact, an ionic liquid POM was incorporated in the ZIF-8 for the first time, and this composite compound was originally applied as a catalyst for simultaneous oxidative desulfurization and denitrogenation processes.  相似文献

Urolithiasis (UL) involves the formation of stones in different parts of the urinary tract. UL is a health problem, and its prevalence has increased considerably in developing countries. Several regions use plants in traditional medicine as an alternative in the treatment or prevention of UL. Mexico has known about the role of traditional medicine in the management of urinary stones. Mexican traditional medicine uses plants such as Argemone mexicana L., Berberis trifoliata Hartw. ex Lindl., Costus mexicanus Liebm, Chenopodium album L., Ammi visnaga (L.) Lam., Eysenhardtia polystachya (Ortega) Sarg., Selaginella lepidophylla (Hook. & Grev.) Spring, and Taraxacum officinale L. These plants contain different bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, phytosterols, saponins, furanochromones, alkaloids, and terpenoids, which could be effective in preventing the process of stone formation. Evidence suggests that their beneficial effects might be associated with litholytic, antispasmodic, and diuretic activities, as well as an inhibitory effect on crystallization, nucleation, and aggregation of crystals. The molecular mechanisms involving these effects could be related to antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Thus, the review aims to summarize the preclinical evidence, bioactive compounds, and molecular mechanisms of the plants used in Mexican traditional medicine for the management of UL.  相似文献

In this work, the gas-sensing functionality of porous ceramic bodies formed by the slip casting technique was studied using perovskite nanoparticles of an MSnO3 system (M = Ba, Ca, Zn) synthesized by a chemical route. The performance and reliability of the sensitive materials in the presence of different volatile organic compounds (acetone, ethanol, and toluene), and other gases (CO, H2 and NO2) were analysed. The ZnSnO3, BaSnO3, and CaSnO3 sensors showed sensitivities of 40, 16, and 8% ppm−1 towards acetone, ethanol, and toluene vapours, respectively. Good repeatability and selectivity were also observed for these gaseous analytes, as well as excellent stability for a period of 120 days. The shortest response times were recorded for the ZnSnO3 sensors (e.g., 4 s for 80 ppm acetone) with marked responses to low concentrations of acetone (1000 ppb). These results are attributed to the porosity of the sensitive materials, which favours the diffusion of gases, induces surface defects, and provides greater surface area and good sensitivity to acetone, as is seen in the case of ZnSnO3.  相似文献

Fluorene‐based polymer derivatives are promising materials for organic electronic devices because of their photoluminescence and electroluminescence, good film‐forming ability, and favorable chemical and thermal properties. Although optical properties of polyfluorene have already been reported, most of the studies focused on the linear optical properties, whereas nonlinear optical characteristics have only recently received more detailed attention. Here, we report on two polyfluorene derivatives, poly(9,9′‐n‐dihexyl‐2,7‐fluorenediyl) (LaPPS 10) and poly(9,9′‐n‐dihexyl‐2,7‐fluorene‐diyl‐vinylene) (LaPPS 38), which present intense nonlinear absorption and fluorescence. Two‐photon absorption cross‐section properties of both polymers were characterized in the spectral range from 500 nm up to 900 nm, reaching peak values around 2000 Göppert Mayer units. Optical limiting behavior and two‐photon‐induced fluorescence of both polymers have also been investigated. Furthermore, the first molecular hyperpolarizability of the polymers was also studied using hyper‐Rayleigh scattering. In addition, the three‐photon absorption (3PA) spectra of both materials were also investigated, and 3PA cross‐section values in the order of 1 × 10?78 cm6 s2 photon?2 were observed. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, we demonstrate the potential of surface‐initiated single electron transfer living radical polymerization for surface modification applications that confer low‐fouling properties. The versatility of the technique, which can be applied to a wide variety of substrates, has been displayed by the successful grafting of a range of monomers after immobilizing a bromine initiator on the surface via plasma polymerization. The thickness of the grafted surfaces can be controlled through variation of reaction parameters such as monomer concentration, reaction time, and the ratio between catalyst and ligand. Furthermore, the low‐fouling properties of the resulting surfaces were demonstrated against fully concentrated serum proteins and adhesive fibroblast cells, via grafting of N‐hydroxyethyl acrylamide (N‐HEA) or [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl‐(3‐sulfopropyl) ammonium hydroxide (SBMA). This rapid and versatile coating technique, which has the ability to be applied to a wide range of substrates, can be performed in aqueous conditions without the exclusion of atmospheric oxygen, and shows excellent potential for the surface modification of biomaterial surfaces that require low‐fouling properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
