Channel proteins that selectively conduct molecules across cell membranes often exhibit an asymmetric structure. By means of a stochastic model, we argue that channel asymmetry in the presence of nonequilibrium fluctuations, fueled by the cell's metabolism as observed recently, can dramatically influence the transport through such channels by a ratchetlike mechanism. For an aquaglyceroporin that conducts water and glycerol, we show that a previously determined asymmetric glycerol potential leads to enhanced inward transport of glycerol, but for unfavorably high glycerol concentrations also to enhanced outward transport that protects a cell against poisoning.  相似文献

We give sufficient conditions for the rigid body in the presence of an axisymmetric force field and a gyroscopic torque to admit a Hamilton-Poisson formulation. Even if by adding a gyroscopic torque we initially lose one of the conserved Casimirs, we recover another conservation law as a Casimir function for a modified Poisson structure. The steady two-dimensional MHD stagnation point flow towards a stretching sheet with variable surface temperature is investigated. The governing system of partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed. It is found that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases with the magnetic parameter when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, i.e. ε>1, and the opposite is observed when ε<1.  相似文献

We present exact numerical results indicating that ionization could be a useful tool to study electron correlations in artificial molecules and nanoarrays of metallic quantum dots. For nanorings consisting of Ag quantum dots of the type already fabricated, we demonstrate that the molecular orbital picture breaks down even for lowest energy ionization processes, in contrast to ordinary molecules. Our ionization results yield a transition point between localization and delocalization regimes in good agreement with various experimental data.  相似文献

In order to preserve and restore the Imperial Gates from the Petrindu wooden church, Salaj County, Romania, (map location—latitude, longitude: 46.97, 23.19), the scientific investigation of the wooden support and painting materials (ground and pigments) was performed, employing Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X‐ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and 3D scanning. FTIR spectroscopy offered information about the wooden degradation stage, whereas X‐ray fluorescence and FTIR spectroscopic methods were employed for structural painting materials characterization. The structural data can be correlated with the artistic, theological, and historical analysis of this religious patrimony object. After obtaining information about the wooden support and painting materials, the Imperial Gates were 3D digitized using state of the art laser scanning technology. The digital 3D model obtained was restored in a virtual environment and converted into an interactive 3D model that can be used for Romanian cultural heritage digital dissemination.  相似文献

A numerical solution is obtained for the steady oblique stagnation-point flow of a micropolar fluid over a stretching or shrinking surface with velocity slip condition. Results are obtained for representative values of slip parameter, micropolar parameter and stretching/shrinking parameter for strong particle interaction micropolar fluid. Dual solutions are found for the case of shrinking surface. An analysis of stability of these dual solutions shows that the solution branch that proceeds to large stretching case is stable. The streamlines are not symmetric for the oblique stagnation-point flow and reversed flow are observed near to the shrinking surface. The streamlines plots show that increase of slip parameter will reduce/eliminate the existing of rotating flow near the surface that caused by the shrinking effect.  相似文献

In this paper, the stagnation-point flow and heat transfer towards a shrinking sheet in a nanofluid is considered. The nonlinear system of coupled partial differential equations was transformed and reduced to a nonlinear system of coupled ordinary differential equations, which was solved numerically using the shooting method. Numerical results were obtained for the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number as well as the velocity and temperature profiles for some values of the governing parameters, namely the nanoparticle volume fraction φ, the shrinking parameter λand the Prandtl number Pr. Three different types of nanoparticles are considered, namely Cu, Al2O3 and TiO2. It was found that nanoparticles of low thermal conductivity, TiO2, have better enhancement on heat transfer compared to nanoparticles Al2O3 and Cu. For a particular nanoparticle, increasing the volume fraction φ results in an increase of the skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate at the surface. It is also found that solutions do not exist for larger shrinking rates and dual solutions exist when λ < −1.0.  相似文献

Modification of intrinsic viscosity, temperature coefficient, and preferential adsorption coefficient of polysulfones with different alkyl side groups in N,N-dimethylformamide/methanol and N,N-dimethylformamide/water was investigated at different compositions and temperatures. The specific interactions, such as hydrogen bonding and polyelectrolyte effect induced by an enhanced dissociation of the ionizable groups, determine both the modification of the solvation power of the polymer coil and the difference in the composition of the mixed solvent inside and outside the coil.  相似文献

Trioxane was copolymerized with small amounts of dioxolane in benzene in the presence of a boron trifluoride:a crylonitrile complex as initiator. The kinetics of reactions was expressed in terms of topoenergetic principles. The copolymerizations had no induction periods and the maximum reaction rate was found proportional to the square of both the initiator and monomers concentrations. A zwitterionic mechanism is suggested for initiation. The activation energy for the system with 5% dioxolane was determined as 18.3 kcal/mol. The melting behavior of the copolymers is briefly discussed as a function of the dioxolane initial content, and is indicative of the amorphous-crystalline coupling phenomenon. The copolymers with ~ 5% dioxolane are thermostable in air up to 250%deg; and are recommended for practical purposes.  相似文献
