Asymmetric aza Diels-Alder reactions of amino acid ester imines with Brassard's diene

Imines 1 obtained from aromatic, aliphatic or functionalized aldehydes and valine tert-butyl ester undergo Lewis acid catalyzed hetero Diels-Alder reactions with Brassard's diene 2. The cycloadducts are formed in good to high yields and with diastereomer ratios of 92:8 – 97:3. For the removal of the chiral auxiliary group a new method was developed whose principle consists in the conversion of the amino acid -C-atom into an acetalic center employing a Curtius rearrangement as the key step.     

Anwendung des Ringofens in der Tüpfelkolorimetrie

Zusammenfassung Die bereits früher beschriebene Ringofenmethode wurde zu tüpfelkolorimetrischen Analysen verwendet. Mehrere Ringe mit verschiedener Zahl von Probetropfen wurden hergestellt und mit Standardringen verglichen. Es ist nicht nötig, genau zu schätzen. Eine annähernde Zuordnung der Proberinge zu den Standardringen reicht aus, um brauchbare Resultate zu erhalten. Als Beispiele wurden beschrieben: Die Bestimmung des Eisens mit Kaliumferrocyanid, des Nickels mit Dimethylglyoxim, des Kobalts mit-Nitroso--Naphthol, des Kupfers mit Schwefelwasserstoffwasser und Umwandlung des Kupfersulfids in eine äquivalente Menge Silbersulfid. — Die Abtrennnng störender Ionen kann in den meisten Fällen auf dem Papier selbst erfolgen.

Summary The ring furnace method already described was employed for spot colorimetric analyses. Several rings with different numbers of sample drops were prepared and compared with standard rings. An exact estimate is not necessary. An approximate coordination of the test rings to the standard rings is adequate for obtaining usable results. Examples described include determination of: iron with potassium ferrocyanide, nickel with dimethylglyoxime, cobalt with-nitroso-naphtol, copper with hydrogen sulfide water and conversion of the copper sulfide into its equivalent of silver sulfide. In most cases, the removal of interfering ions can be accomplished on the paper itself.

Résumé On utilise pour des analyses colorimétriques à la goutte, la méthode du four annulaire déjà décrit. On a obtenu plusieurs anneaux avec des gouttes d'essai différentes et on les compare à des anneaux étalons. Il n'est pas nécessaire d'opérer d'une façon précise. Une comparaison approchée des anneaux de la substance et de l'étalon suffit pour obtenir des résultats utilisables. Comme exemples, on décrit: le dosage du fer avec le ferrocyanure de potassium, du nickel avec la diméthylglyoxime, du cobalt avec l'-nitroso-naphtol, du cuivre avec la solution d'hydrogène sulfuré et la transformation du sulfure de cuivre en la quantité équivalente de sulfure d'argent. La séparation des ions gênants peut, dans la plupart des cas, s'effectuer sur le papier lui-même.

     

Mass Spectral Interaction between the Functional Groups of Multiply Substituted Alkanes

The mass spectral decomposition of di- and polyfunctional alkanes is characterized essentially by two, fundamentally different reactions: On the one hand the structures of the fragment ions are determined by separated degradation of each functional group; on the other hand, however, a relatively large number of fragment ions result from the combined action of two or even more functional groups. This special type of fragmentation has become an important topic in today's mass spectral research. In the present progress report an attempt has been made to summarize the results obtained so far.     

Massenspektrometrische Identifizierung von biogenen Aminen in Form ihrer 1-Dimethylamino-naphthalin-5-sulfonyl-Derivate

Zusammenfassung Von etwa 80 1-Dimethylamino-naphthalin-5-sulfonyl-(DANS-)Derivaten biogener Amine und verwandter Verbindungen mit unterschiedlichen strukturellen Elementen wurden die durch Elektronenstoß induzierten Fragmentierungen untersucht. Die Prinzipien dieser Fragmentierungen und die Brauchbarkeit der Massenspektrometrie bei niedrigem Auflösungsvermögen für die Identifizierung dünnschicht-chromatographisch getrennter DANS-Derivate biogener Amine aus Gewebsextrakten werden diskutiert.

Mass spectrometric identification of biogenic amines as 1-dimethylamino-naphthalene-5-sulphonyl derivatives

The fragmentation by electron impact of approximately 80 1-dimethylamino-naphthalene-5-sulphonyl (DANS) derivatives of biogenic amines and related substances of different structural features has been studied. The principles of these fragmentations and the suitability of low resolution mass spectrometry for the identification of thin-layer chromatographically separated DANS-derivatives of biogenic amines from tissue extracts are discussed.

The mechanism of the addition of tetrachloromethane to oct-1-ene catalysed by [Mo2(CO)6(η-Cp)2]

A study of the reaction of CCl₄ with oct-1-ene in the presence of catalytic amounts of [Mo₂(CO)₆(η-Cp)₂] has shown that in the early stages it proceeds by a redox-catalysed mechanism. However, gradual decomposition of the catalyst leads to the intervention of a radical chain pathway.
