Systematic studies of fission fragment kinetic energy distributions by Langevin simulations

Fission fluctuation-dissipation dynamics of heavy nuclei has been studied using Langevin Monte Carlo simulations. The covariant form of the fission transport equation and the coefficients related to it are investigated. To learn about the influence of the dynamics from the ground state to the saddle point on the kinetic energy distributions we have studied various systems and compared the calculations both starting from the ground state and from the saddle point. Both the mean total kinetic energy of the fission fragments and its variances can fit with the experimental values in terms of a finite neck radius as scission condition.This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.     

Electropolymerized m-phenylenediamine as a means to immobilize active protein on thickness-shear-mode quartz crystal

Electropolymerized m-phenylenediamine was used as an active coating for immobilizing urease and lectin on a gold-plated thickness-shear-mode (TSM) crystal. To enhance effectiveness of immobilization. a bilayer polymer film composed of polyaniline and poly-m-phenylenediamine was proposed. Compared with single poly-m-phenylenediamine film, the bilayer polymer film gave better results in terms of immobilizing capacity, stability and reproductivity. On this bilayer-film-coated TSM quartz crystal, the amount of immobilized lectin was estimated about 1.8 mug/cm(2). Detection of purified human erythrocytes is demonstrated as an example of potential application of this lectin-modified TSM biosensor in clinic.     

Inclusion complexes of alcohols with α-cyclodextrin

Calorimetric studies of the inclusion complexes of straight and branched alcohols and of diols with alpha-cyclodextrin (-CD) have been carried out in water solvent. The data suggest that straight and branched chain alcohols enter the cavity of -CD alkyl end first. The hydroxyl group hydrogen bonds to the outer oxygen ring of the cyclodextrin. For branched chain alcohols the longer alkyl part of the molecule penetrates the -CD cavity up to the hydroxyl group. Diols form two hydrogen bonds to the outer oxygen ring of the cyclodextrin with some penetration into its interior.     

Fractal drums and then-dimensional modified Weyl-Berry conjecture

In this paper, we study the spectrum of the Dirichlet Laplacian in a bounded (or, more generally, of finite volume) open set R ⁿ (n1) with fractal boundary of interior Minkowski dimension (n–1,n]. By means of the technique of tessellation of domains, we give the exact second term of the asymptotic expansion of the counting functionN() (i.e. the number of positive eigenvalues less than ) as +, which is of the form ^/2 times a negative, bounded and left-continuous function of . This explains the reason why the modified Weyl-Berry conjecture does not hold generally forn2. In addition, we also obtain explicit upper and lower bounds on the second term ofN().     

Level surfaces of non-degenerate functions inR n+1

We study level surfaces of non-degenerate functions inR ⁿ⁺¹. Such level surfaces are non-degenerate in the sense of affine differential geometry. In affine differential geometry, the affine normal plays an important role for the study of a non-degenerate hypersurface. In this note, being motivated by Koszul's work we take a canonical vector field for level surfaces of a non-degenerate function and give certain characterizations of when is transversal, by the shape operatorS, the transversal connection , and consider the difference between and the affine normal.     

Refining the Diffusion Approximation for the <Emphasis Type="Italic">GI</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis></Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">/G/c</Emphasis> Queue

This paper deals with the GI ^x /G/c queueing system in a steady state. We refine a diffusion approximation method incorporating the constraint of traffic conservation for general queueing systems. An approximate expression for the distribution of the number of customers is obtained. Numerical results are presented to show that the refined model provides improved performance.     

On the ε-expansion procedure in the RNG theory of turbulence

Rescaling the equations of eliminating small scales, the physical justification for the-expansion procedure in the RNG theory of turbulence is proposed, in terms of that the inertial effects are small comparing with the viscous effects at the vicinity of the Kolmogorov dissipation wavenumber.We are grateful to Professor Chao-Hao Gu for numerous helpful suggestions.
