Synthetic studies on carbapenem antibiotics from penicillins.II. regio- and stereoselective aldol reaction of a chiral azetidinone: a synthesis of optically active 6-epicarpetimycins

Aldol and alkylation reactions of the chiral 4-allylazetidinone 1 gave 3,4-trans-azetidinones as major products, in which 10 was converted in several steps to the optically active 6-epicarpetimycins 2.     

Reaction of alkynyltrimethylsilanes with a hypervalent organoiodine compound: A new general synthesis of alkynyliodonium salts

New general methods for the synthesis of alkynyl(phenyl)iodonium tetrafluoroborate 2 from alkynyltrimethylsilanes 1 utilizing the combination of iodosylbenzene and triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate or boron trifluoride etherate were developed. The medium effect observed in the reaction was also discussed.     

Synthesis of aromatic amino acid ethyl esters by α-chymotrypsin in solutions of high ethanol concentrations

N-Acetyl-L-tryptophan and N-acetyl-L-tyrosine were converted to their ethyl esters by α-chymotrypsin in water-ethanol mixed solvents with ethanol concentration higher than 90 %. The effects of the solvent composition and the stability of α-chymotrypsin in these solutions are described.     

Laser photolysis of C2H2 and CF3C2H at 193 nm: Production of C2(d3Πg and CH(A2Δ) and their quenching by Xe

The 193 nm laser photodissociation of CH₂H₂ and CF₃C₂H has been studied. With the laser beam focused, C₂(d³Π_g) and CH(A²Δ) radicals were formed by multiphoton processes in both C₂H₂ and CF₃C₂H; however, the one-photon process forming C₂H is still predominant in CF₃C₂H photolysis. The production of C₂(d³Π_g) and CH(A²Δ) emissions is prompt,and the emission intensities show similar (less than quadratic) dependence on laser power whether the radicals are produced from C₂H₂ or CF₃C₂H. In addition, the vibrational distribution of the Swan system is nearly the same in CF₃C₂H as in C₂H₂. The results indicate that the overall photolytic processes are similar in two molecules. Both the C₂(d³Π_g) and CH(A²Δ) emissions are quenched by Xe with rate constants of 4.8×10^?11 and 1.8×10^?11 cm³ molecule^?1 s^?1, respectively.     

Correction method for X-ray fluorescent determination of chromium in high-alloy steels and nickel-base alloys

Summary A new interelement correction method has been developed for the X-ray fluorescent determination of chromium in high-alloy steels and nickel-base alloys. The calibration equation which was derived from the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) model is applicable over wide ranges of compositions by preparation of only Fe-Cr binary standards.The new approach gave better accuracy than that based on Rasberry-Heinrich correction model. The accuracies (_d) were 0.08% for high-alloy steels and 0.14% for nickel-base alloys.

Korrekturmethode für die röntgenfluorescenzspektrometrische Bestimmung von Chrom in hochlegierten Stählen und Nickellegierungen

Zusammenfassung Die Eich-Gleichung für das neue Korrekturverfahren wurde vom JIS-Modell (Japanese Industrial Standards) abgeleitet und ist über einen weiten Bereich von Zusammensetzungen durch Herstellung von lediglich binären Fe-Cr-Standards einsetzbar. Das beschriebene Verfahren bietet eine bessere Genauigkeit als die Methode nach dem Korrekturmodell von Rasberry-Heinrich. Sie betrug 0,08% für hochlegierte Stähle und 0,14% für Nickellegierungen.

     

The primary fragmentation step of isoxazole upon electron impact. A correlation with photochemistry

Three isomeric compounds, I, II and III, were prepared and their mass spectra recorded. Comparisons of the spectra showed that the fragmentation of I proceeds only by way of II, and that II itself is transformed in part to III upon electron impact. It is suggested that selective ionization of each one of the two isolated functional groups in II may afford two isomeric radical ions, IIa and IIb. A possible interrelation to the photochemistry of these compounds is also discussed.     

Trimethylsilylmethyl derivatives of thallium(III)

Some trimethylsilylmethyl derivatives of thallium(III) have higher stability and unusual coordination behavior in comparison with simple alkylthallim(III) analogs for steric reasons.
