Asymmetric Catalysis. Part 149 [1]. Synthesis of New Chiral Tridentate Ligands for Enantioselective Catalysis

Summary. The synthesis of new chiral tridentate ligands is reported which coordinate transition metals in a meridional way. The ligands contain a pyridine ring, an oxazoline ring, and a strongly coordinating diphenylphosphanyl group. The methionine-derived ligand forms a copper complex, which has been studied by X-ray crystallography. The new ligands were tested in models of enantioselective catalyses, such as hydrogenation of ketopantolactone, hydrosilylation of acetophenone, and transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone.X-ray structure analysesReceived March 4, 2003; accepted March 4, 2003 Published online August 18, 2003     

Doppler-free two-photon absorption spectroscopy ofn 2 P J -levels (n=7, 8, 9) in203,205Tl

The hyperfine splittings and isotope shifts of n²P_J-levels in^203,205Tl have been measured by high resolution two-photon spectroscopy with a cw dye-laser and an actively stabilized marker cavity for laser frequency scancalibration.     

Preparative and electrochemical investigations on the electron sponge behavior of cobalt telluride clusters: CO substitution in [Co11Te7(CO)10]n- ions (n=1, 2) by PMe2Ph and crystal structure of [Co11Te7(CO)5(PMe2Ph)5

The reaction of the cluster salts [Cp(2*) Nb(CO)(2)](n)[Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(10)] (Cp*=C(5)Me(5); n=1, 2) with excess PMe(2)Ph gave the neutral, dark brown clusters [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(6)(PMe(2)Ph)(4)] (5) and [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(5)(PMe(2)Ph)(5)] (6) with 147 metal valence electrons. The new compounds were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and mass spectrometry. The molecular structure of 6 was determined by X-ray crystallography. Like its precursor anion, it consists of a pentagonal-prismatic [Co(11)Te(7)] core, but with a ligand sphere composed of five CO and five PMe(2)Ph ligands. Detailed electrochemical studies of both reactions reveal that a stepwise substitution of CO ligands in the initial cluster anions takes place leading to intermediate [Co(11)Te(7)(CO)(10-m)(PMe(2)Ph)(m)](n-) ions (m=1-5; n=1, 2). Each of these intermediates is distinguished by at least one oxidation and two reduction waves, giving rise to a total of 21 redox couples and 27 electroactive species. The electron sponge character of the new compounds is particularly pronounced in 5, which exhibits charges n between +1 and -4 corresponding to metal valence electron counts of between 146 and 151.     

Construction of Large Carbocyclic Rings by Ireland-Claisen Rearrangement of O-Silylated Lactone Enolates: Synthesis of (±)-muscone

(±)-Muscone (5) has been synthesized from methyl 13-(chloroformyl)tridecanoate (6) in nine steps in an overall yield of 24%. The key steps involve an efficient transformation of the readily accessible 14-hydroxy-15-methyl-15-hexadecenoic acid (9) into the tetradecanolide 1 and a subsequent Ireland-Claisen rearrangement of its triethylsilyl enolate 2 to a 8:1-mixture of the stereoisomeric 15-membered carbocycles 4 and 10 (Scheme 4).

Effects of Substituents on the Strength of C - C Bonds, 8¹. - Heats of Formation and Strain of 1,1,2,2-Tetraethylethylene Glycol Dimethyl Ether and D,L .-1,2-Dimethyl-l,2-diphenylethylene Glycol Dimethyl Ether The heats of combustion of the title compounds 1 and 2 were measured calorimetrically with the result (kcal mol ^-1, s. d. in parentheses) ΔH°_c = − 1880.1 (± 0.6) and − 2373.3 (± 1.4). The heat of vaporisation of 1 ΔH^v = 14.3 (± 0.3) and the heat of sublimation of 2 ΔH^sub = 27.2 (± 0.5) were derived from their temperature dependance of the vapor pressure. The latter were determined between 30 and 80°C using a flow method. The resulting standard heats of formation ΔH°_t(g) = −122.4 (± 0.7) and −43.8 (±1.5) for 1 and 2 correspond to a strain enthalpy (_s) of 15.9 and 8.0 kcal mol^-1, respectively. The steric strain of the dimethoxyethanes 1 and 2 is about one fourth lower than the strain of the corresponding dimethylethanes 3 and 4 bearing the same substituents. Thus, a methoxy group causes less steric stress than a methyl group.     

Dendrimeric Gd(III) complex of a monophosphinated DOTA analogue: optimizing relaxivity by reducing internal motion

A marked increase of relaxivity has been observed upon rigidifying the internal frame of Gd-containing PAMAM dendrimers: the effect has been attained by either protonation of the dendrimer or by forming supramolecular adducts with cationic polyaminoacids.     

Chelation of carbocations by polyethers and polyamines

Chelates formed by carbocations and cyclic polyethers and polyamines are studied with semiempirical and ab initio MO methods.     

Study of the development of thermoresistance in human pancreatic carcinoma cell lines using proteome analysis

In order to find candidate proteins that are potentially associated with the thermoresistant phenotype in combination with drug resistance, we analyzed the differential protein expression in vitro in the human pancreatic cancer cell line EPP85-181-P and classical and atypical multidrug-resistant variants and their thermoresistant counterparts using proteomics. This study identifies sets of proteins that may lead to the development of thermoresistance. These results provide a fundamental basis to elucidate the molecular mechanism of thermoresistance and chemoresistance phenomena that may assist the therapy of inoperable cancers.
