Preparation and Crystal Structure of Cs₂Sb₄S₇ The first thioantimonite of Cesium has been synthesized and its crystal structure determined. The substance crystallizes monoclinic with spacegroup P2₁/_c. The lattice constants are a = 1111.2(5) pm, b = 1227.1(5) pm, c = 1163.7(5) pm and ß = 97.60(5)°. There are four formula units in the unit cell. Sb–S chains are formed by trigonal SbS₃ pyramids and ψ-trigonal SbS₄ bipyramids.     

TOSAR – A Topological Method for the Representation of Synthetic and Analytical Relations of Concepts

In mechanized systems used for searching in literature stores there is a steadily growing necessity not only to be able to formulate concepts as a search condition but also the characteristic connections under which these concepts appear in the inquiry. In this way the precision of the mechanized literature search is considerably increased. TOSAR has been developed in order to improve computerized literature searching in this respect.     

Thermal and mass spectrometric fragmentation of esters of deuterated long chain carboxylic acids

A method combining thermal fragmentation and mass spectrometry for the determination of the position of double bonds in an unsaturated ester is presented. The thermal fragmentation of methyl esters of deuterated long chain carboxylic acids yields a homologous series of olefins plus a homologous series of unsaturated esters. The positions of the deuterium atoms in the original ester are revealed by the deuterium content of its fragments as determined by mass spectrometry. Therefore, the positions of double bonds of a polyunsaturated acid can be determined by pyrolysis after saturation by deuterium. The structures of the unsaturated fragments are ascertained by mass spectrometric method, and the formation of the ion [M – 32] in the mass spectrometric fragmentation of unsaturated methyl esters is studied by means of deuterium labeling.     

2-(1-Azulyl)ethyl tosylate methylene scrambling in the gas phase. Similarities to solution chemistry

The methylene groups in 2-(1-azulyl)ethyl tosylate are largely scrambled prior to formation of fragment ions in the mass spectrometer. This process also occurs in the 3-nitro analog, where it is dependent on sample residence time in the source and independent of electron energy. It could not be observed with the isomeric 6-substituted tosylates, the 1-substituted acetates or alcohols, or with 2-(p-anisyl)ethyl tosylate. Scrambling occurs in the neutral molecule prior to ionization and a mechanism involving absorption onto the metal surface and formation of a complexed ethylenazulonium ion is suggested.
