Cross sections and multiplicity distributions for pp annihilations at 4.6 GeV/c

Channel cross sections have been determined for $\text{p}\text{p}$ annihilations into final states containing 3 to 9 pions at 4.6 GeV/c. The moments of both the charged and neutral pion multiplicity distributions are presented and model predictions are critically examined.     

Comment on “the behavior of maxwell's equations under real superluminal lorentz transformations”

Negi et al. have recently obtained field equations for the superluminal electromagnetic field, in theories based on real superluminal transformations along a “tachyon corridor”. Their results differ from equations obtained some time ago by the present authors. We trace the source of the discrepancy to the failure of Negi et al. to consistently transform all relevant quantities from the old to the new Lorentz frame.     

Partially correlated phase smearing

Under the appropriate circumstances the effect of partially correlated phase smearing on the sum and difference de Haas-van Alphen frequencies generated through magnetic interaction can be treated as if the phase distribution of the two interacting oscillations were fully correlated.     

Deuterium isotope effects on one-bond carbon,hydrogen coupling constants

Small, negative deuterium isotope effects on ¹J(CH) have been found for a variety of simple organic molecules. These new experimental data support theoretical calculations and suggestions based on previous imprecise experimental measurements. The deuterium isotope effects upon the ¹³C chemical shifts were also measured with high precision.     

Higher-order Carmichael numbers

We define a Carmichael number of order to be a composite integer such that th-power raising defines an endomorphism of every -algebra that can be generated as a -module by elements. We give a simple criterion to determine whether a number is a Carmichael number of order , and we give a heuristic argument (based on an argument of Erdos for the usual Carmichael numbers) that indicates that for every there should be infinitely many Carmichael numbers of order . The argument suggests a method for finding examples of higher-order Carmichael numbers; we use the method to provide examples of Carmichael numbers of order .
