Heavy-fermion compounds are characterized by electronic correlation effects at low energies which can directly be accessed with optical spectroscopy. Here we present detailed measurements of the frequency- and temperature-dependent conductivity of the heavy-fermion compound UPd2Al3 using broadband microwave spectroscopy in the frequency range 45 MHz to 40 GHz at temperatures down to 1.7 K. We observe the full Drude response with a relaxation time up to 50 ps, proving that the mass enhancement of the heavy charge carriers goes hand in hand with an enhancement of the relaxation time. We show that the relaxation rate as a function of temperature scales with the dc resistivity. We do not find any signs of a frequency-dependent relaxation rate within the addressed frequency range.  相似文献

Direct fluorination of poly(ethylene‐alt‐tetrafluoroethylene) copolymer (ETFE) was carried out on commercially available ETFE films with pure fluorine gas at ambient atmosphere. Reaction temperature was either 95 °C or 150 °C and exposure time was 20 hours. Analysis of the fluorinated samples was performed by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform Infrared, confocal micro‐Raman and 1H and 19F magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies, scanning electron microscopy, electron diffraction and X‐Ray photoelectron spectroscopies, contact angle determination, atomic force microscopy and nanoindentation measurements, and compared to those of the virgin ETFE copolymer. Integrity of the bulk materials was verified by investigating the thermal behavior of the polymers by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Evidence for the formation of a homogeneous layer of polytetrafluoroethylene with a thickness of several microns at the surface of the copolymers with no degradation of the materials was observed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. H alpha chemical shifts are often used as indicators of secondary structure formation in protein structural analysis and peptide folding studies. On the basis of NMR analysis of model beta-sheet and alpha-helical peptides, together with a statistical analysis of protein structures for which NMR data are available, we show that although the gross pattern of H alpha chemical shifts reflects backbone torsion angles, longer range effects from distant amino acids are the dominant factor determining experimental chemical shifts in beta-sheets of peptides and proteins. These show context-dependent variations that aid structural assignment and highlight anomalous shifts that may be of structural significance and provide insights into beta-sheet stability.  相似文献

The dynamic mechanical behavior of monodisperse atactic polystyrene (mol. wt. 98,000) has been measured in the frequency range, 10−5 to 10 Hz and temperature range 359–374K. The time-temperature superposition of the entire data in the frequency range of overlap seems less satisfactory in both the real and imaginary components of the complex shear modulus, G′ and G″, respectively. The lack of adequate superposition becomes pronounced in the tan ϕ (G″/G′) plots. The tan ϕ plots provide a more discerning criteria for the superposition than the G′ or G″ spectra. An analysis based on an earlier model for anelastic deformation shows that of the several changes that may occur in the dynamic mechanical behavior on heating of polystyrene, the predominant ones are both an increase in the size of the microshear domains and the correlations of movement of segments near entanglements. These decrease the contribution to the modulus on heating near Tg so that the time-temperature superposition is vitiated.  相似文献

We have measured 16O17O elastic cross sections at 22 MeV between 65°–140° to ± 1 %. The observed oscillatory interference between Coulomb scattering and the neutron transfer process is analyzed using exact finite-range DWBA. A model-independent value of C?2 = 0.82 ± 0.07 is obtained for the coupling constant of the 1d52 neutron in 17O. We also present an analysis of data on magnetic electron scattering from 17O, which yields precise information on the magnitude and the radial shape of the 1d52 neutron bound-state wave function. With this we relate the coupling constant to the spectroscopic factor and find S = 1.04 ± 0.11. We show that the magnetic electron scattering data alone yield S = 1.04 ± 0.10. Combining these results with earlier work we recommend C?2 = 0.79 ± 0.04 and S = 1.03 ± 0.07 as best values. This spectroscopic strength corresponds to (91 ± 7) % of the full single-particle value.  相似文献

The investigation of light-ion induced direct reactions in inverse kinematics, using stored and cooled radioactive beams, interacting with internal H, He, etc. gas-jet targets, bears a large potential for nuclear structure and astrophysics studies on exotic nuclei. An extended research project EXL has been accepted for the future facility FAIR in Darmstadt, Germany. In order to explore the experimental conditions for measurements planned at FAIR, a first test experiment for proving the feasibility of the EXL concept was performed.  相似文献

Recently, an approach was proposed to optimize multi‐layer shields of polyaniline–polyurethane (PAni/PU) conducting composites in the microwave band. Though by this method shields for different applications can be obtained which are light‐weight and offer a low percolation threshold, the full potential of the design process could not be tapped since the underlying optimization problem includes only one objective. In this work we go one step beyond and re‐formulate the design problem as a multi‐objective optimization problem (MOP). To be more precise, we involve simultaneously the shielding efficiency as well as the weight and the cost of the material—i.e. all the requirements for modern shielding materials—within the optimization process. After having stated the model we present two possible ways to approximate the solution set—the so‐called Pareto set—and address the related and important decision‐making problem. All steps are demonstrated on a particular three‐layered composite in order to show the applicability of the novel approach. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
