The Crystal Structure of Fluphenazinium Dipicrate Dimethylsulphoxide Solvate

Abstract  

The title compound, C₂₂H₂₈F₃N₃OS²⁺ × 2(C₆H₂N₃O₇ ⁻) × (CH₃)₂SO—the picrate salt of the potent antipsychotic drug, fluphenazine—crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group with unit cell parameters a = 10.6333(12) ?, b = 11.9696(12) ?, c = 17.7036(15) ?, α = 103.265(9)°, β = 98.414(9)°, γ = 102.702(10)°. The ionic fragments: the fluphenazinium dictation, and two picrate anions, are joined by means of strong N–H···O and weak C–H···O hydrogen bonds into the chains of alternating cations and anions, expanding along [010] direction. Within the chain, the picrates interact by means of short π···π interactions: the mean distance between the planes is 3.366 ?; additional interaction of the same type between one of the picrates and the phenyl ring of the phenothiazine ring system additionally strengthen the pattern. The phenothiazine ring exists in a typical, “butterfly-like” conformation, with two terminal rings planar and the central ring in a slightly flattened boat form. This conformation results in the dihedral angle between the terminal rings of 41.76(5)°. The aliphatic chain which substitutes phenothiazine at N-position is not in an extended conformation, the torsion angles along this chain are 75.95(14)° and −163.96(10)°. The structure contains also the solvent—dimethylsulphoxide molecules, which are connected with the cation–anion structure by means of strong O–H···O hydrogen bonds.     

Does Maternal Treatment with Zidovudine Affect Changes in Mandibles of Newborns? Laser Induced Fluorescence Study

The influence of antiretroviral drug zidovudine treatment during pregnancy on mandible development in newborn rats was studied. The fluorescence of mandibles from 7-, 14- and 28-days old individuals was measured by means of fiber-optical fluorescence analyzer with 407 nm laser excitation. Obtained results revealed disturbing effect of maternal zidovudine administration on mandible fluorescence intensity which should decrease with bone development. Small changes in fluorescence of porphyrin forms are maintaining in the first month of newborns life while the changes observed in 440–585 nm range disappear.     

Modeling of relay helix functional dynamics and feasibility of experimental verification by neutron scattering

Cellular long-range transport involves motor proteins (MPs) (especially, kinesin and myosin) which contain a so-called relay helix. Its motion is of crucial importance to the conversion of chemical energy released in ATP hydrolysis into the coordinated mechanical movement of the entire motor protein. In this paper, we propose two combined nonlinear mechanisms for this particular functional activity and suggest the application of neutron scattering assays to experimentally determine the incoherent dynamic structure factor S(q,ω). We argue that this type of experiment is not only feasible but it could offer significant insights into the mechanism of MP function at a molecular level.     

Noise map validation by continuous noise monitoring

This paper presents a comparison of two noise assessments in the Gdansk agglomeration in Poland. One is based on the noise map produced by computational method for the city in 2007, the second one is based on real data from continuous measurements acquired by a noise monitoring network operating in the city since 2008. Differences are shown and analyzed. Additionally, seasonal and weekday influence on noise indicators (L_DEN, L_D, L_E and L_N) is analyzed and discussed in this paper.     

Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic activity of metal-loaded NaNbO3

Fe-, Ni-, Co- and Ag- loaded NaNbO₃ catalysts were prepared and their activities have been investigated in the reaction of photocatalytic hydrogen generation. Me/NaNbO₃ were synthesized by impregnation of NaNbO₃ in an aqueous solution of metal nitrates and then by calcination at the temperature of 400 °C. The crystallographic phases and optical and vibronic properties were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and diffuse reflectance (DR) UV-vis and resonance Raman spectroscopic methods, respectively. Morphology and chemical composition of the produced samples were studied using a high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) and an energy dispersive X-Ray spectrometer (EDX) as its mode. The detailed analysis has revealed that all the investigated catalysts exhibit high crystallinity and the presence of Fe₂O₃, NiO, Co₃O₄ and Ag₂O oxides on Me/NaNbO₃ was confirmed. Finally, the influence of different metal loadings (Fe, Ni, Co and Ag) on the photocatalytic activity of NaNbO₃ for photocatalytic hydrogen generation has been investigated. Here we report that among all the Me/NaNbO₃ photocatalysts Ag-loaded NaNbO₃ exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency for photocatalytic hydrogen generation than NaNbO₃.     

Approximate analytical solution to normal emittance of semi-transparent layer of an absorbing, scattering, and refracting medium

A two-step approximate analytical solution for the normal emittance of a plane layer of an absorbing, scattering and refracting medium is derived analytically. The analysis is based on the transport approximation and the two-step solution method for radiative transfer. The high accuracy of the approximate solution, examined by comparing its results to those obtained independently by the discrete ordinates and Monte Carlo methods, makes it suitable for application in combined experimental-analytical studies to identify selected spectral radiative properties of dispersed media in the range of semi-transparency.     

Conservative Interacting Particles System with Anomalous Rate of Ergodicity

We analyse certain conservative interacting particle system and establish ergodicity of the system for a family of invariant measures. Furthermore, we show that convergence rate to equilibrium is exponential. This result is of interest because it presents counterexample to the standard assumption of physicists that conservative system implies polynomial rate of convergence. The system in question is stochastic rather than deterministic.     

Laser frequency stabilization by magnetically assisted rotation spectroscopy

We present a method of Doppler-free laser frequency stabilization based on magnetically assisted rotation spectroscopy (MARS) which combines the Doppler-free velocity-selective optical pumping (VSOP) and magnetic rotation spectroscopy. The stabilization is demonstrated for the atomic rubidium transitions at 780 nm. The proposed method is largely independent of stray magnetic fields and does not require any modulation of the laser frequency. Moreover, the discussed method allows one to choose between locking the laser exactly to the line center, or with a magnetically-controlled shift to an arbitrary frequency detuned by up to several natural linewidths. This feature is useful in many situations, e.g. for laser cooling experiments. In addition to presenting the principle of the method, its theoretical background and peculiarities inherent to the repopulation VSOP are discussed.
