Thermo-diffusion in inertially confined plasmas

In a plasma of multiple ion species, thermodynamic forces such as pressure and temperature gradients can drive ion species separation via inter-species diffusion. Unlike its neutral mix counterpart, plasma thermo-diffusion is found comparable to, or even much larger than, baro-diffusion. It is shown that such a strong effect is due to the long-range nature of the Coulomb potential, as opposed to short-range interactions in neutral gases. A special composition of the tritium and ³He fuel is identified to have vanishing net diffusion during adiabatic compression, and hence provides an experimental test in which yield degradation is minimized during ICF implosions.     

Constructions of almost secure frameproof codes with applications to fingerprinting schemes

This paper presents explicit constructions of fingerprinting codes. The proposed constructions use a class of codes called almost secure frameproof codes. An almost secure frameproof code is a relaxed version of a secure frameproof code, which in turn is the same as a separating code. This relaxed version is the object of our interest because it gives rise to fingerprinting codes of higher rate than fingerprinting codes derived from separating codes. The construction of almost secure frameproof codes discussed here is based on weakly biased arrays, a class of combinatorial objects tightly related to weakly dependent random variables.

A meglumine catalyst–based synthesis,molecular docking,and antioxidant studies of dihydropyrano[3, 2-b]chromenedione derivatives

A simple method was employed for the synthesis of dihydropyrano[3, 2-b]chromenedione derivatives ( 4a-o) in high yields by condensation of 5, 5-dimethylcyclohexane-1, 3-dione( 1 ), different aromatic aldehydes ( 2a-o ), and 5-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4H-pyran-4-one( 3 ), using meglumine as a stable and reusable catalyst. Meglumine, an amino sugar, was employed as an environmentally benign catalyst, due to its splendid properties such as being inexpensive, recyclable, and biodegradable. The accomplished protocol employs low catalyst loading and easy work-up for the synthesis of 5-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4H-pyran-4-one derivatives. A great asset is that without any significant loss, the catalyst could be recovered and reused for extended synthetic steps. This offer huge advantage to overcome recyclability issues. Our synthesized compounds were analyzed by IR, ¹H, ¹³C NMR, mass spectra and evaluated for their antioxidant properties by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl radical (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide(H₂O₂), and nitric oxide (NO) scavenging methods. The correlation in exhibition of antioxidant activity was effective at all doses. The binding interactions and molecular docking studies for entitled compounds were studied against 3MNG protein; 4k exhibited marked binding affinity with excellent docking score of −7.6 Kcal/mol and emerged as a lead compound.     

Simple measure of similarity for the market graph construction

A simple measure of similarity for the construction of the market graph is proposed. The measure is based on the probability of the coincidence of the signs of the stock returns. This measure is robust, has a simple interpretation, is easy to calculate and can be used as measure of similarity between any number of random variables. For the case of pairwise similarity the connection of this measure with the sign correlation of Fechner is noted. The properties of the proposed measure of pairwise similarity in comparison with the classic Pearson correlation are studied. The simple measure of pairwise similarity is applied (in parallel with the classic correlation) for the study of Russian and Swedish market graphs. The new measure of similarity for more than two random variables is introduced and applied to the additional deeper analysis of Russian and Swedish markets. Some interesting phenomena for the cliques and independent sets of the obtained market graphs are observed.     

Anomalous pulse interaction in dissipative media

We review a number of phenomena occurring in one-dimensional excitable media due to modified decay behind propagating pulses. Those phenomena can be grouped in two categories depending on whether the wake of a solitary pulse is oscillatory or not. Oscillatory decay leads to nonannihilative head-on collision of pulses and oscillatory dispersion relation of periodic pulse trains. Stronger wake oscillations can even result in a bistable dispersion relation. Those effects are illustrated with the help of the Oregonator and FitzHugh-Nagumo models for excitable media. For a monotonic wake, we show that it is possible to induce bound states of solitary pulses and anomalous dispersion of periodic pulse trains by introducing nonlocal spatial coupling to the excitable medium.
