Approaches towards Si-based lasers are discussed using lattice-matched group-IV heterostructures that can be deposited strain free on Si substrates with either Ge or GeSn buffer layers. Several strain-free designs are presented that include Ge/GeSiSn quantum cascade structure, GeSn/GeSiSn double heterostructure, and GeSn/GeSiSn multiple quantum wells.  相似文献

We present a comparative study on the enhancement of photoluminescence and Raman processes by a single metal nanoparticle. Taking an analytical approach, we show the physics behind strikingly different orders of magnitude in enhancement that have been observed, provide fundamental explanation for not observing quenching of Raman processes, and outline the path to optimization of both photoluminescence and Raman enhancement.  相似文献

Vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin, is essential for health and plays an important part in vision, bone growth, reproduction, regulating the immune system, cell function, and skin health. Due to the advances in technology and the expansion of its uses, LC technologies are being studied for effectiveness in detecting and quantifying vitamin A in an effort to help determine the amount of vitamin A in various types of samples. For this reason, an Expert Review Panel agreed on June 29, 2011, at the "Standards Development and International Harmonization: AOAC INTERNATIONAL Mid-Year Meeting," to approve "Determination of Vitamin A in Infant Formula and Adult Nutritionals by UPLC-UV" as AOAC Official Method 2011.07. To move from First to Final Action status, it was recommended that additional information be generated for all types of infant formulas and adult nutritional formula matrixes at varied concentration levels, as indicated in the standard method performance requirements. International units or retinol equivalents typically represent the concentration of vitamin A in food and supplements. However, for the purpose of this method, the concentration represented is presented in microg/100 g.  相似文献

The thermal stability of brominated isobutylene–isoprene rubber (BIIR) was investigated through studies of the elastomer and a model compound that accurately represented the reactive functionality within the polymer. An analysis of commercial BIIR and reaction products of brominated 2,2,4,8,8‐pentamethyl‐4‐nonene (BPMN) by NMR demonstrated that bromination of isobutylene–isoprene rubber by 1,3‐dibromo‐5,5‐dimethylhydantoin yielded a kinetically favored exomethylene substitution product, 3‐bromo‐6,6‐dimethyl‐2‐(2,2‐dimethylpropyl)‐1‐heptene ( 2 ), as opposed to the more stable endo‐isomer, (E,Z)‐4‐(bromomethyl)‐2,2,8,8‐tetramethyl‐4‐nonene ( 3 ). The exposure of BIIR and the brominated model compound BPMN to vulcanization temperatures led to the isomerization of 2 to 3 at a rate strongly dependent on HBr concentration. The elimination of HBr from these allylic bromides to produce exo‐ and endo‐conjugated dienes proceeded concurrently with isomerization, and the kinetics of these processes could be rationalized on the basis of a polar reaction mechanism. The product distributions obtained from both the model system and BIIR were consistent, thereby justifying an extension of the model compound approach to an analysis of BIIR vulcanization chemistry. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We continue the study of the family of planar regions dubbed Aztec diamonds in our earlier article and study the ways in which these regions can be tiled by dominoes. Two more proofs of the main formula are given. The first uses the representation theory of GL(n). The second is more combinatorial and produces a generating function that gives not only the number of domino tilings of the Aztec diamond of order n but also information about the orientation of the dominoes (vertical versus horizontal) and the accessibility of one tiling from another by means of local modifications. Lastly, we explore a connection between the combinatorial objects studied in this paper and the square-ice model studied by Lieb.  相似文献

The reversible thermochromic behaviour of homoleptic [{V(OR)(4)}(n)] complexes in solution [R = Pr(i) (product I), Bu(s) (B(s)), Nep (N) and Cy (C)] is accounted for the existence of an aggregation equilibrium involving dimeric and monomeric species in which vanadium(iv) is respectively five- and four-coordinate. Bulky R groups such as Bu(t) and Pe(t) (tert-pentoxide) prevent aggregation and therefore give rise to exclusively mononuclear compounds (B(t) and P(t), respectively) that are not thermochromic. The complexes and their temperature-dependent interconversion were characterised by single crystal X-ray diffractometry, magnetic susceptibility measurements and electronic, FTIR and EPR spectroscopies in a wide temperature range. Equilibrium constants and enthalpy and entropy changes for the dimerization reactions have been determined and compared with literature data.  相似文献

The electron-stimulated production of molecular hydrogen (D(2), HD, and H(2)) from amorphous solid water (ASW) deposited on Pt(111) is investigated. Experiments with isotopically layered films of H(2)O and D(2)O are used to profile the spatial distribution of the electron-stimulated reactions leading to hydrogen within the water films. The molecular hydrogen yield has two components that have distinct reaction kinetics due to reactions that occur at the ASW/Pt interface and the ASW/vacuum interface, but not in the bulk. However, the molecular hydrogen yield as a function of the ASW film thickness in both pure and isotopically layered films indicates that the energy for the reactions is absorbed in the bulk of the films and electronic excitations migrate to the interfaces where they drive the reactions.  相似文献

According to a common line of criticism, Donald Davidson’s argument in “On the Very Idea of a Conceptual Scheme” is invalid because it moves illicitly from the relatively weak thesis that conceptual schemes cannot be incommensurable to the stronger thesis that the idea of a conceptual scheme itself is incoherent. I argue in this paper that such objections fail because they misunderstand the position that Davidson’s argument is intended to rule out. According to the “scheme-content dualism” Davidson targets, conceptual schemes differ only if they are incommensurable with one another. Thus, if Davidson has successfully shown the idea of incommensurability to be incoherent (as the critics in question grant), then he has shown “the very idea of a conceptual scheme” to be incoherent, as well.  相似文献

Thin monolayer and bilayer films of spin cast poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA), poly(lactic) acid (PLA) and PLA doped with several pharmaceuticals have been analyzed by dynamic SIMS using SF5+ polyatomic primary ion bombardment. Each of these systems exhibited minimal primary beam-induced degradation under cluster ion bombardment allowing molecular depth profiles to be obtained through the film. By combing secondary ion imaging with depth profiling, three-dimensional molecular image depth profiles have been obtained from these systems. In another approach, bevel cross-sections are cut in the samples with the SF5+ primary ion beam to produce a laterally magnified cross-section of the sample that does not contain the beam-induced damage that would be induced by conventional focussed ion beam (FIB) cross-sectioning. The bevel surface can then be examined using cluster SIMS imaging or other appropriate microanalysis technique.  相似文献

We report a measurement of the two X-ray transitions that proceed from the and (1s22s1/22p63p1/2)J = 1 upper levels to the (1s22s22p6)J = 0 ground level in neonlike Eu53+ (Z = 63), that is,  near the previously documented avoided crossing of the two upper levels at Z = 68. The measurement was carried out using the calorimeter spectrometer on the Livermore EBIT-I electron beam ion trap. It affirms the trends set by the neighboring neonlike ions both in terms of the relative intensity of the two lines and in terms of the magnitude of disagreement with theoretical energy level predictions.  相似文献
