The production of track-spots in CR-39 detectors for alpha particles and the subsequent optical counting of the detectors are often influenced by foreign substances deposited on the surface of the detectors. The removal of these substances can be achieved using chemicals for pre-irradiation treatment. Two methods of pre-irradiation treatment were studied in the present experiments. One of them involves the dipping of the detectors in ethanol. In the other method, the detectors were treated in 6N KOH etchant prior to exposure. It was found that prolonged treatment could only produce a reduction in the track density of less than 20%.  相似文献

Abstract

The anion Ph2P? (K+, 18-crown-6) reacts with t-BuHgCl in HMPA to form Ph2PCMe3 by a free radical chain mechanism. In Me2SO, Ph2P(O)CMe3 is produced. Reaction of Ph2P? with PhCOCH2HgCl yields the oxidative dimerization product isolable from HMPA but readily converted to Ph2P(O)P(O)Ph2 in Me2SO.  相似文献

This paper describes a study of the behaviour of diamond coatings when subjected to solid particle erosion from sand particles. The coatings were deposited by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) onto tungsten substrates and tested using a high velocity air–sand erosion test facility. The erosion tests were conducted using particle impact velocities of between 33 and 268 m/s. Examination of the eroded test specimens showed that the principal damage features were circumferential cracks and pin-holes. Comparison with Hertz impact theory revealed that the measured circumferential crack diameters were more than double the predicted Hertzian contact diameter. Moreover, a trend of increasing circumferential crack diameter with coating thickness, which is not predicted by Hertz, was found. Instead, the crack diameters showed good agreement with those predicted by the theory of stress wave reinforcement, which is more commonly associated with liquid impact damage of brittle materials. During impact, the bulk compression and shear waves are reflected at the rear surface of debonded regions of the coating to return to the front surface and reinforce the Rayleigh surface wave, which generates a tensile stress. Where this stress exceeds the local tensile strength of the coating, a ring of cracks surrounding the area of impact is created. The results from the present study therefore suggest that stress wave reflection is responsible for the formation of the cracks at locally debonded regions of the coating. This hypothesis was supported by images acquired using scanning acoustic microscopy, which showed that circumferential cracks and pin-holes were only found on areas of the coating that had become delaminated by multiple particle impacts during the erosion tests.  相似文献

Abstract

A facile and efficient method is described for the determination of trace quantities of triazine herbicides, terbutryn, prometryn and ametryn in water. The procedure involved preconcentration of water samples by sorption on chromatographic grade silica gel particles with chemically modified surface, being covalently bonded with a nonofunctional C8H17 group. This was followed by solvent desorption with 2-propanol. The determinative step was achieved by capillary gas chromatography on Supelcowax-10 fused silica column using a nitrogen-phosphorus detector. The limit of detection was 0.1 μg-10 μgL?1.  相似文献

For the implementation of thin ceramic hard coatings into intensive application environments, the fracture toughness is a particularly important material design parameter. Characterisation of the fracture toughness of small-scale specimens has been a topic of great debate, due to size effects, plasticity, residual stress effects and the influence of ion penetration from the sample fabrication process. In this work, several different small-scale fracture toughness geometries (single-beam cantilever, double-beam cantilever and micro-pillar splitting) were compared, fabricated from a thin physical vapour-deposited ceramic film using a focused ion beam source, and then the effect of the gallium-milled notch on mode I toughness quantification investigated. It was found that notching using a focused gallium source influences small-scale toughness measurements and can lead to an overestimation of the fracture toughness values for chromium nitride (CrN) thin films. The effects of gallium ion irradiation were further studied by performing the first small-scale high-temperature toughness measurements within the scanning electron microscope, with the consequence that annealing at high temperatures allows for diffusion of the gallium to grain boundaries promoting embrittlement in small-scale CrN samples. This work highlights the sensitivity of some materials to gallium ion penetration effects, and the profound effect that it can have on fracture toughness evaluation.  相似文献

We present experimental evidence for the spontaneous formation of a macroscopic spin polarization in overlapping regions of two independent Bose-Einstein condensates produced in different hyperfine states of 87Rb. The condensates are independent in the sense that we do not explicitly introduce a relative phase between them. A single "spin-tip" pulse maps the transverse spin polarization into longitudinal spin polarization, and the atomic density distributions are measured with a Stern-Gerlach imaging method. The resulting matter-wave interference patterns are anticorrelated.  相似文献

We study experimentally, analytically and numerically the backward-wave propagation, and formation of discrete bright and dark solitons in a nonlinear electrical lattice. We observe experimentally that a focusing (defocusing) effect occurs above (below) a certain carrier frequency threshold, and backward-propagating bright (dark) discrete solitons are formed. We develop a discrete model emulating the relevant circuit and benchmark its linear properties against the experimental dispersion relation. Using a perturbation method, we derive a nonlinear Schrödinger equation, that predicts accurately the carrier frequency threshold. Finally, we use numerical simulations to corroborate our findings and monitor the space-time evolution of the discrete solitons.  相似文献

Examples are adduced which lead one to ask if the following rule of unanimity makes sense: Given, a classical dynamical problem. Given, that all solutions of the equations of motion (a) run into a singularity [or (b) are free of singularity], except a set of measure zero. Goal Programming is similar in structure to linear programming, but offers a more flexible approach to planning problems by allowing a number of goals which are not necessarily compatible to be taken into account, simultaneously. The use of linear programming in farm planning is reviewed briefly. Consideration is given to published evidence of the goals of farmers, and ways in which these goals can be represented. A goal programming model of a 600 acre mixed farm is described and evaluated. Advantages and shortcomings of goal programming in relation to linear programming are considered. It is found that goal programming can be used as a means of generating a range of possible solutions to the planning problem.  相似文献

In an integrated crop and intensive beef production enterprise, some of the feedstuffs used for cattle feeding are grown by the enterprise. In evaluating the performance of operations of this type, the interactions between the crop and beef production parts of the enterprise must be taken into account. A linear programming (L.P.) model of this type of enterprise is developed, with the coefficients of the animal feeding activities being derived from a dynamic programming (D.P.) model. This D.P. model is used to determine the least-cost method of feeding animals to produce a specified liveweight gain using rations formulated by L.P. from a given set of feedstuffs. This approach allows the interactions between crop and livestock production to be taken into account without the need to make assumptions about the source of feedstuffs or the rate of liveweight gain.  相似文献
