This paper inquires the effectiveness of a PCM-based heat sink as a reliable solution to portable electronic devices. This sink is composed of a PCM with low thermal conductivity and fins to boost its conductivity. The optimization is subjected to fixed heat sink volume filled with PCM between vertical equidistant fins. New fins are installed in the unheated space existing in each enclosure which is not involved in thermal distribution from vertical fins to the PCM. Based on the same principle, new fins generations are augmented stepwise to the multi-scale structure. The steps of adding fins will continue up to the point that the objective function reaches its maximal value, i.e., maximizing the longest safe operation time without allowing the electronics to reach the critical temperature. The results indicate that in each length of the enclosure, the optimum volume fraction and the best fins distance values exist in which the heat sink performance becomes maximum, and adding more fins lowers the performance of the heat sink. Increasing the enclosure’s length by \(2^{n}\) does not change them. For an enclosure with constant length, the optimal number of steps for adding fins within the enclosure is a function of the fin thickness. The results indicate that increasing the thickness changes the optimal number of adding fins inside the enclosure (normally a decrease). As the fin thickness is lowered, there will be a higher effect by adding vertical fins in the enclosure. Numerical simulations cover the Rayleigh number range \(2\times 10^{5}\le \hbox {Ra}_{\mathrm{H}} \le 2.7\times 10^{8}\), where H is the heat sink height.  相似文献

A novel kind of lightweight integrated thermal protection system, named pyramidal core sandwich panel, is proposed to be a good safeguard for hypersonic aircrafts in the current study. Such system is considered as not only an insulation structure but also a load-bearing structure. In the context of design for hypersonic aircrafts, an efficient optimization should be paid enough attention. This paper concerns with the homogenization of the proposed pyramidal sandwich core panel using two-dimensional model in subsequent research for material selection. According to the required insulation performance and thermal–mechanical properties, several suitable material combinations are chosen as candidates for the pyramidal core sandwich panel by adopting finite element analysis and approximate response surface. To obtain lightweight structure with an excellent capability of heat insulation and load-bearing, an investigation on some specific design variables, which are significant for thermal–mechanical properties of the structure, is performed. Finally, a good balance between the insulation performance, the capability of load-bearing and the lightweight has attained.  相似文献

In homozygous β-thalassemia blood transfusions and chelating therapy cannot prevent completely hemochromatosis. Labile ‘free’ iron forms in blood serum and evolves into insoluble inorganic deposits in tissues. Using X-band EPR at 163 K, we detected a new species of polynuclear iron in serum of some thalassemic patients. It showed a broad g < 2 line and an unusually high dynamic magnetic susceptibility due to ordered magnetism, which was detected by a decreased Q factor of the resonant cavity at B = 0. To explain the ordered magnetism and large line, we postulated either ferri- or ferromagnetic nanocrystals with non-zero residual magnetization, or superparamagnetic nanoparticles with antiferromagnetic ordering and incomplete spin compensation—or maybe both. While the results were not sufficient to check the first hypothesis, they are fully consistent with the second. The new species is similar to, but distinct from, ferritin’s mineral core, as it does not correlate with the ferritin concentration. The spectra suggest particles of ~1.7–4.1 nm diameter, plausibly containing ~40–300 Fe(III) ions coupled by oxygen bridges, but further confirmation is needed. The nanoparticles apparently formed a hydrophilic colloidal dispersion, being probably decorated with hydrophilic small organic molecules. They are postulated to form by heterogeneous nucleation around the ‘free’ iron, then aggregate in chains and eventually precipitate in the tissues. Stable free radicals detected in serum were tentatively identified as the hydroxyperoxyl and monodehydroascorbate radicals forming adducts with Cu(II)-ceruloplasmin, and the Hb–porphyrin–Fe(IV)=O oxoferryl radical probably stabilized on haptoglobin. They are consistent with oxy-radicals promoted both by ‘free’ iron and by polyiron nanoparticles. Potential medical applications like early assessment of patient’s evolution trend toward hemochromatosis and monitoring of the transfusional suppression of endogenous erythrocyte synthesis are suggested.  相似文献

Despite significant differences between bone tissues and other porous media such as oilfield rocks, there are common features as well as differences in the response of NMR relaxation measurements to the internal structures of the materials. Internal surfaces contribute to both transverse (T2) and longitudinal (T1) relaxation of pore fluids, and in both cases the effects depend on, among other things, local surface-to-volume ratio (S/V). In both cases variations in local S/V can lead to distributions of relaxation times, sometimes over decades. As in rocks, it is useful to take bone data under different conditions of cleaning, saturation, and desaturation. T1 and T2 distributions are computed using UPEN. In trabecular bone it is easy to see differences in dimensions of intertrabecular spaces in samples that have been de-fatted and saturated with water, with longer T1 and T2 for larger pores. Both T1 and T2 distributions for these water-saturated samples are bimodal, separating or partly separating inter- and intratrabecular water. The T1 peak times have a ratio of from 10 to 30, depending on pore size, but for the smaller separations the distributions may not have deep minima. The T2 peak times have ratios of over 1000, with intratrabecular water represented by large peaks at a fraction of a ms, which we can observe only by single spin echoes. CPMG data show peaks at about a second, tapering down to small amplitudes by a ms. In all samples the free induction decay (FID) from an inversion-recovery (IR) T1 measurement shows an approximately Gaussian (solid-like) component, exp[-1/2 (T/TGC), with TGC approximately 11.7+/-0.7 micros (GC for "Gaussian Component"), and a liquid-like component (LLC) with initially simple-exponential decay at the rate-average time T(2-FID) for the first 100 micros. Averaging and smoothing procedures are adopted to derive T(2-FID) as a function of IR time and to get T1 distributions for both the GC and the LLC. It appears that contact with the GC, which is presumed to be 1H on collagen, leads to the T2 reduction of at least part of the LLC, which is presumed to be water. Progressive drying of the cleaned and water-saturated samples confirms that the long T1 and T2 components were in the large intertrabecular spaces, since the corresponding peaks are lost. Further drying leads to further shortening of T2 for the remaining water but eventually leads to lengthening of T1 for both the collagen and the water. After the intertrabecular water is lost by drying, T1 is the same for GC and LLC. T(2-FID) is found to be roughly 320/alpha micros, where alpha is the ratio of the extrapolated GC to LLC, appearing to indicate a time tau of about 320 micros for 1H transverse magnetization in GC to exchange with that of LLC. This holds for all samples and under all conditions investigated. The role of the collagen in relaxation is confirmed by treatment to remove the mineral component, observing that the GC remains and has the same TGC and has the same effect on the relaxation times of the associated water. Measurements on cortical bone show the same collagen-related effects but do not have the long T1 and T2 components.  相似文献

Hsp90 is an attractive chemotherapeutic target because it chaperones the folding of proteins found in multiple signal transduction pathways. We describe the 1.75 A resolution crystal structure of human Hsp90 alpha (residues 9-236) complexed with 17-desmethoxy-17-N,N-dimethylaminoethylamino-geldanamycin (17-DMAG). The structure revealed an altered set of interactions between the 17-substituent and the protein compared to geldanamycin and the 17-dimethylaminoethyl moiety pointing into solvent, but otherwise was similar to that reported for the complex with geldanamycin. Targeted molecular dynamics simulations and energetic analysis indicate that geldanamycin undergoes two major conformational changes when it binds Hsp90, with the key step of the conversion being the trans to cis conformational change of the macrocycle amide bond. We speculate that 17-DMAG analogs constrained to a cis-amide in the ground state could provide a significant increase in affinity for Hsp90.  相似文献

We report on the integration of a size-based three-dimensional filter, with micrometre-sized pores, in a commercial microfluidic chip. The filter is fabricated inside an already sealed microfluidic channel using the unique capabilities of two-photon polymerization. This direct-write technique enables integration of the filter by post-processing in a chip that has been fabricated by standard technologies. The filter is located at the intersection of two channels in order to control the amount of flow passing through the filter. Tests with a suspension of 3 μm polystyrene spheres in a Rhodamine 6G solution show that 100% of the spheres are stopped, while the fluorescent molecules are transmitted through the filter. We demonstrate operation up to a period of 25 minutes without any evidence of clogging. Preliminary validation of the device for plasma separation from whole blood is shown. Moreover, the filter can be cleaned and reused by reversing the flow.  相似文献

Hybrid organic–inorganic coatings containing ammonium polyphosphate (APP), chitosan and silica have been deposited on polyester-cotton blends (PET-CO), exploiting the layer by layer assembly. To this aim, two different complex architectures (namely, chitosan/APP bilayers plus silica/silica bilayers or silica/silica/chitosan/APP quadlayers) have been thoroughly investigated. The effect of their morphologies on the flame retardancy properties of the fabrics (flammability and combustion behaviour) has been assessed. More specifically, some of the above complex architectures exhibited significant enhancements concerning flammability (i.e. the suppression of afterglow, together with a considerable final residue increase) and combustion behaviour as evidenced by cone calorimeter tests. A close relationship between the overall flame retardancy properties of the blends and the level of dishomogeneity of the LbL architectures has been shown.  相似文献
