We investigate some aspects of relativistic classical theories with “relative locality”, in which pairs of events established to be coincident by nearby observers may be described as non-coincident by distant observers. While previous studies focused mainly on the case of longitudinal relative locality, where the effect occurs along the direction connecting the distant observer to the events, we here focus on transverse relative locality, in which instead the effect is found in a direction orthogonal to the one connecting the distant observer to the events. Our findings suggest that, at least for theories of free particles, transverse relative locality is as significant as longitudinal relative locality both conceptually and quantitatively. And we observe that “dual gravity lensing” can be viewed as one of two components of transverse relative locality. We also speculate about a type of spacetime noncommutativity for which transverse relative locality could be particularly significant.  相似文献

The Pd-catalysed Suzuki homocoupling of boronic acids was successfully carried out in water under high-intensity ultrasound (HIU). Heterogeneous catalysis with Pd/C, facilitating work up and purification, could be used without adding phosphine ligands. Reaction rates and yields were strongly influenced by the oxidant employed; excellent results were obtained using either molecular oxygen or 3-bromo-4-hydroxycoumarin. 3-Arylation of the latter with the Suzuki procedure had failed, exclusively affording the homocoupling products, symmetric biaryls. Besides offering a number of operational advantages, the use of HIU broadens the field of application for the Suzuki reaction.  相似文献

The renewal of the urban waterfronts has become a major focus of attention for politicians and decision makers in the city’s management programs. The recognition of the patterns that define the waterfronts’ identity is essential to select new strategies of intervention for the environmental recovery. In order to create adequate environments for everyday life within a sustainable development, new links between human senses, human perception and design need to be created. Within this wide approach, the landscape and the soundscape play a significant role and can become a key driving force in the implementation of the changes. New techniques have to be tested to identify the sonic and visual parameters capable to explain the specificity of a waterfront. With this purpose, an artificial neural network (ANN) was developed, and the relative importance of the input variables was evaluated. The collected database was also analysed by multiple linear regression (MLR) to compare the outcomes of both models. The urban waterfront of Naples (Italy) was chosen as case study. The results obtained show that the performance of the neural network is better than the one of the linear regression (rANN = 0.949, rMLR = 0.639). The interpretation of the relative importance method is also quite satisfactory in the ANN.  相似文献

A higher-order Poincaré sphere and Stokes parameter representation of the higher-order states of polarization of vector vortex beams that includes radial and azimuthal polarized cylindrical vector beams is presented. The higher-order Poincaré sphere is constructed by naturally extending the Jones vector basis of plane wave polarization in terms of optical spin angular momentum to the total optical angular momentum that includes higher dimensional orbital angular momentum. The salient properties of this representation are illustrated by its ability to describe the higher-order modes of optical fiber waveguides, more exotic vector beams, and a higher-order Pancharatnam-Berry geometric phase.  相似文献

Let the steady-state pressure z(·) of a fluid in a one-dimensional domain be governed by the equation d x (a d x z) = f subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. We consider the identification of the transmissivity a (·), given f(·), and measured pressure z(·) by the comparison model method, a direct method which has been known and applied for some time but lacked theoretical background. With reference to a domain in one spatial dimension, we examine both the infinite-(‘continuous’) and finite-(discrete) dimensional cases. In the former, the method is based on the solution p(·) of an auxiliary flow equation, where f(·) and the two-point boundary conditions are unchanged with respect to the original or z(·) equation, whereas a tentative constant value b is assigned to the auxiliary transmissivity. The ratio of the first derivatives of p(·) and z(·) multiplied by b yields a solution ã(·) to the inverse problem. We examine in detail the nonuniqueness of ã(·) as a function of b, some cases where existence implies uniqueness, the role of positivity constraints, and a special feature: self-identifiability. We then translate all available results into the discrete case, where the good unknowns for the inverse problem are the internode coefficients. We investigate the applicability of highly reduced lithium niobate samples doped with iron for the use as optoelectronic tweezers. Increasing the reduction degree of Fe-doped lithium niobate is well known to increase the photoconductivity and reduce the writing time of internal space-charge fields. Based on our measurements of the photorefractive properties, we determine the optimal conditions for dielectrophoretic trapping and present the application of Fe-doped lithium niobate as optoelectronic tweezers. For higher reduction degrees, an unexpected decrease in the photovoltaic current density and the saturation space-charge field is reported.  相似文献
