Partition-induced vector chromatography in microfluidic devices   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We investigate by means of macrotransport theory the transport of Brownian particles in a slit geometry in the presence of an arbitrary two-dimensional periodic energy landscape and driven by an external force or convected by a flow field. We obtained analytical expressions for the probability distribution and the average migration angle of the particles under the Fick-Jacobs approximation. The migration angle is shown to differ from the angle of the driving field and to strongly depend on the physical properties of the suspended species, thus providing the basis for vector chromatography, in which different species move in different directions and can be continuously fractionated. The potential of microfluidic devices as a platform for partition-induced vector chromatography is demonstrated by considering the particular case of a piece-wise constant, periodic potential that, in equilibrium, induces the spontaneous partition of different species into high and low concentration stripes, and which can be easily fabricated by patterning physically or chemically one of the surfaces of a channel. We show the feasibility to fractionate a mixture of particles for systems in which partition is induced via 1-g gravity and Van der Waals interactions in physically or chemically patterned channels.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to highlight the potential application of the corona discharge at atmospheric pressure for the surface activation of polyester (PES) fabrics in order to improve the binding efficiency of colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles. The obtained nanocomposite textile materials provide desirable level of UV protection, self‐cleaning properties, and photodegradation activity. The measured UV protection factor (UPF) of fabrics corresponds to UPF rating of 50+, designating the maximum UV protection. Additionally, the total photodegradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution was achieved after 24 hr of UV illumination and this capability was preserved and even improved after four repeated cycles. The results showed that the corona treated PES fabrics loaded with TiO2 nanoparticles had considerably enhanced the overall efficiency compared to PES fabrics loaded only with TiO2 nanoparticles. Atherosclerosis is one of the most important causes of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Although phenotypic differentiation between stable and unstable plaques is currently possible, proteomic analysis of the atherosclerotic plaque could offer a global view of the atherosclerosis pathology. With the objective to highlight the detection of low-abundance proteins, we reduced the dynamic range of proteins by combinatorial peptide ligand library treatment of human carotid artery atherosclerotic plaques. After enrichment step, abundance of major proteins was decreased, revealing different protein profiles as assessed by both SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and two-dimensional electrophoresis comparative analyses. Identification of proteins that were contained in a spot allowed finding large differences between noncomplicated and complicated plaques from carotid atherosclerotic lesions. Novel low-abundance proteins were detected correlating very well with biological alterations related to atherosclerosis (heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) isoforms, aldehyde dehydrogenase, moesin, Protein kinase C delta-binding protein, and inter-α trypsin inhibitor family heavy chain-related protein (ITIH4)). At the same time, the differential expression of known proteins of interest such as hemoglobin β-chain and heat shock protein 27 between noncomplicated and hemorrhagic complicated plaques was maintained after enrichment step. The detection of different isoforms of a low-abundance protein such as heat shock protein 27 species was actually improved after enrichment of tissue protein extracts. All of these findings clearly support further investigations in view to confirm the role of these proteins as possible biomarkers.  相似文献

The confinement effects upon hydrogen adsorption in Cu(II)-paddle wheel containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were evaluated and rationalized in terms of the structural properties (cavity types and pore diameters) of PCN-12, HKUST-1, MOF-505, NOTT-103 and NOTT-112. First-principles calculations were employed to identify the strongest adsorption positions at the paddle wheel inorganic building unit (IBU). The adsorption centres due to confinement were located through analysis of 3D occupancy maps obtained from the hydrogen trajectories computed via molecular dynamics simulations. It was found that the confinement enhances the adsorption on the weakest adsorption centres around the IBU in regions close to the narrowest windows and promotes the formation of new adsorption regions into the small cavities. Our results indicate that at low pressure, the high H(2) uptake in these materials is partly due to the presence of small cavities (5.3-8.5 ?) or narrow windows where the long-range contribution to the adsorption becomes important. Conversely, confinement effects in cavities with diameters >12 ? were not observed.  相似文献

The energy associated with the decay of fission products plays an important role in the estimation of the amount of heat released by nuclear fuel in reactors. In this article we present results of the study of the beta decay of some refractory isotopes that were considered important contributors to the decay heat in reactors. The measurements were performed at the IGISOL facility of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. In these studies we have combined for the first time a Penning trap (JYFLTRAP), which was used as a high resolution isobaric separator, with a total absorption spectrometer. The results of the measurements as well as their consequences for decay heat summation calculations are discussed.  相似文献

We study the thermodynamics and the different thermodynamic geometric methods of Reissener-Nordström-de Sitter black hole and its extremal case, which is similar to the de Sitter black hole coupled to a scalar field, rather called an MTZ black hole. While studying the thermodynamics of the systems, we could find some abnormalities. In both cases, the thermodynamic geometric methods could give the correct explanation for all abnormal thermodynamic behaviors in the system.  相似文献

The article is devoted to a problem inspired by the ‘Minesweeper’ computer game. It is shown that certain configurations of open cells guarantee the existence and the uniqueness of solution. Mathematically the problem is reduced to some spectral properties of discrete differential operators. It is shown how the uniqueness can be used to create a new game which preserves the spirit of ‘Minesweeper’ but does not require a computer.  相似文献

The phenolic fraction and other polar compounds of the Hibiscus sabdariffa were separated and identified by HPLC with diode array detection coupled to electrospray TOF and IT tandem MS (DAD‐HPLC‐ESI‐TOF‐MS and IT‐MS). The H. sabdariffa aqueous extract was filtered and directly injected into the LC system. The analysis of the compounds was carried out by RP HPLC coupled to DAD and TOF‐MS in order to obtain molecular formula and exact mass. Posterior analyses with IT‐MS were performed and the fragmentation pattern and confirmation of the structures were achieved. The H. sabdariffa samples were successfully analyzed in positive and negative ionization modes with two optimized linear gradients. In positive mode, the two most representative anthocyanins and other compounds were identified whereas the phenolic fraction, hydroxycitric acid and its lactone were identified using the negative ionization mode.  相似文献
