A new catalytic oxidation procedure, involving the use of a cerium(IV) sulfate reagent in perchloric acid with a mixed silver(I)—manganese(II) perchlorate catalyst, has been developed for the determination of phosphite, hypophosphite, and tellurium. By this method 15—100 mg of phosphite, 5—35 mg of hypophosphite, and 10—105 mg of tellurium may be determined with standard deviations of ±0.17, ±0.32, and ±0.21% respectively. A direct titration procedure for mercury(I) is described using a ceric perchlorate solution as titrant with the mixed catalyst system. Samples from 65–510 mg may be analyzed with a standard deviation of ±0.36%.  相似文献

Dr. Dean Stanley Tarbell, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of chemistry at Vanderbilt University, where he served on the faculty from 1967 to 1981, died on May 26, 1999 in Bolingbrook, Ill. Earlier he taught for many years and chaired the chemistry department at the University of Rochester. In retirement, he and his wife, Ann Tracy Tarbell, researched and wrote articles and books on the history of chemistry in the U.S. For his writings he received the American Chemical Societys Dexter Award for Distinguished Contributions to the History of Chemistry in 1989. He was an avid reader and book collector, a linguist who taught himself Arabic, Russian, and classical Greek, and a lifelong baseball fan.  相似文献

The first crystal structure of a drug (daunomycin) bound to a parallel-stranded intermolecular telomeric G4 quadruplex (d(TGGGGT)4) has been determined to high resolution. A planar assemblage of three daunomycin molecules stacks onto the 5' end of the G4 column, with the daunosamine substituents occupying three of the four quadruplex grooves. The surface area of the terminal G-quartet in this parallel DNA quadruplex, presently occupied by three daunomycins, is sufficiently large that it could easily accommodate other potential telomerase inhibitors such as substituted porphyrins or telomestatin.  相似文献

Dealkylation of 1-tert-butyl-2,3,4-trinitropyrrole in boiling trifluroacetic acid gave 2,3,4-trinitropyrrole, the structure of which was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Treatment of this trinitropyrrole with nitric acid/oleum briefly at 60° gave 2,3,4,5-tetranitropyrrole.  相似文献

The catalyst used in fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) units of refineries after several recovery cycles in regeneration units, reduces its activity and it is partially substituted by new catalyst in the process. As it has a high silicon and aluminum oxides content, the pozzolanic properties of a Brazilian FCC spent residual catalyst, used in different substitution degrees to cement, were evaluated by three thermal analysis techniques during the early stages of hydration of a type II Portland cement. NCDTA curves show in real time that the residual catalyst, accelerates the stages of cement hydration. TG and DSC curves of respective pastes after 24 h of hydration evidence the pozzolanic activity of the waste, respectively, by the lower water mass loss during the dehydroxylation of the residual calcium hydroxide and by the lower dehydroxylation endothermal effect. Within the analyzed period, the higher is the cement substitution degree, the higher is the pozzolanic activity of the residual catalyst.  相似文献

This study explores the potential of heterogeneous activation of Oxone (peroxymonosulfate) in water using cobalt oxides. Two commercially available cobalt oxides, CoO and Co3O4 (CoO.Co2O3) were tested for the activation of peroxymonosulfate and the consequent oxidation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) via a sulfate radical mechanism. Both systems, CoO/Oxone and Co3O4/Oxone, were tested at acidic and neutral pH and compared with the homogeneous Co(NO3)2/Oxone. The activity of these systems was evaluated on the basis of the induced transformation of 2,4-DCP as well as the dissolution of cobalt occurred after 2 h of reaction. It was observed that only Co3O4 activates peroxymonosulfate heterogeneously, with its heterogeneity being more pronounced at neutral pH. Both CoO and Co2O3 contained in Co3O4 might be responsible for the observed heterogeneity, and the relative mechanisms are further discussed here. To our knowledge, this is perhaps the first study that documents the heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate with cobalt, the best-known catalyst-activator for this inorganic peroxide.  相似文献

The fate and transport of toxic metal ions and radionuclides in the environment is generally controlled by sorption reactions. The extent of sorption of divalent metal cations is controlled by a number of factors including cosorbing or complexing. In this work, the effects of pH, humic acid HA/Co(II) addition orders, ionic strength, concentration of HA, and foreign cations on the Co(II) sorption on γ-Al2O3 in the presence of HA were investigated. The sorption isotherms of Co(II) on γ-Al2O3 in the absence and presence HA were also studied and described by using S-type sorption model. The experimental results showed that the Co(II) sorption is strongly dependent on the pH values, concentration of HA, but independent of HA/Co(II) addition orders, ionic strength, and foreign cations in the presence of HA under our experimental conditions. The results also indicated that HA enhanced the Co(II) sorption at low pH, but reduced the Co(II) sorption at high pH. It was hypothesized that the significantly positive influence of HA at low pH on the Co(II) sorption on γ-Al2O3 was attributed to strong surface binding of HA on γ-Al2O3 and subsequently the formation of ternary surface complexes such as ≡S-OOC-R-(COO) x Co2−x . Chemi-complexation may be the main mechanism of the Co(II) sorption on γ-Al2O3 in the presence of HA.  相似文献

Stabilised tributylphosphonium ylids Bu3PCHCH(EWG), where EWG is CO2Me, CO2tBu or CN, react with protected sugar lactones under mild conditions to give high yields of glycosylidene derivatives (4 and 5) with good Z/E selectivity. X-Ray crystallography shows that in the solid state the tetra-O-benzyl protected (Z)-glucosylideneacetonitrile (Z)-4c adopts a conformation intermediate between a boat and a twist-boat, whereas the isomeric galactose derivative (Z)-5c exists as a distorted chair. NMR data suggest that in solution chair-like conformations are again more favoured for galactosylidene derivatives than for their glucosylidene analogues. Solution phase NMR studies and molecular modelling show that the (E)-double bond geometry disfavours the chair-like geometry of the ring, even in the galactose series; this is consistent with the avoidance of allylic 1,3-strain. Reduction of the glycosylidene double bond to give stereoselective formation of β-C-glycoside derivatives may be achieved by using Et3SiH-CF3CO2H or Et3SiH-BF3·Et2O.  相似文献

In this study, a syringe was filled with silica gel loaded with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, for the separation and preconcentration of copper, cadmium and chromium prior to their determination by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) in seawater. For this purpose, a syringe was filled with 0.5 g of modified silica gel and the sample solution was drawn into the syringe and ejected back again. The analyte elements were quantitatively retained at pH 5. Then, the elements sorbed by the silica gel were eluted with 2.0 M of HCl and determined by GFAAS. At optimum conditions, the recovery of Cu, Cd and Cr were 96-98%. Detection limits (3delta) were 6.6, 7.5 and 6.0 micro g L(-1) for Cu, Cd and Cr, respectively. The elements could be concentrated by drawing and discharging several portions of sample successively but eluting only once. Cu, Cd and Cr added to a seawater sample were quantitatively recovered (>95%) in the range of the 95% confidence level. The method proposed in this paper was compared with a column technique. Optimum experimental conditions, reproducibility, precision and recoveries of both techniques are the same, but the syringe technique is much faster, easier and more practical than the column technique. It is a portable system and allows one to make the sorption process in the source of sample. In addition, the risk of contamination is less than in the column technique.  相似文献
