In this note we consider some asymptotic properties of empirical mean direction on spheres. We do not require any symmetry for the underlying density. Thus our results provide the framework for an asymptotic inference regarding mean direction under very weak model assumptions. Mean direction is a specialization of the more general concept of mean location applicable to arbitrary (compact) submanifolds of Euclidean space, to which the methods of this paper could be applied.  相似文献

This paper considers the Red–Blue Transportation Problem (Red–Blue TP), a generalization of the transportation problem where supply nodes are partitioned into two sets and so-called exclusionary constraints are imposed. We encountered a special case of this problem in a hospital context, where patients need to be assigned to rooms. We establish the problem’s complexity, and we compare two integer programming formulations. Furthermore, a maximization variant of Red–Blue TP is presented, for which we propose a constant-factor approximation algorithm. We conclude with a computational study on the performance of the integer programming formulations and the approximation algorithms, by varying the problem size, the partitioning of the supply nodes, and the density of the problem.  相似文献

We utilized a complimentary metal oxide semiconductor video camera for fast flow imaging with the laser Doppler technique. A single sensor is used for both observation of the area of interest and measurements of the interference signal caused by dynamic light scattering from moving particles inside scattering objects. In particular, we demonstrate the possibility of imaging the distribution of the moving red blood cell concentration. This is a first step toward laser Doppler imaging without scanning parts, leading to a much faster imaging procedure than with existing mechanical laser Doppler perfusion imagers.  相似文献

This paper presents a model for a dock assignment problem, where trailers need to be assigned to gates for a given period of time for loading or unloading activities. The parking lot is used as a buffer zone. Transportation between the parking lot and the gates is performed by additional resources called terminal tractors. The problem is modeled as a three-stage flexible flow shop, where the first and the third stage share the same identical parallel machines and the second stage consists of a different set of identical parallel machines. We examine multiple integer-programming formulations for the parallel-machine model in stage two and for the three-stage flow shop and we provide extensive computational results. Our goal is to explore the limits of the instance sizes that can be solved to guaranteed optimality within acceptable running times using integer programming.  相似文献

We describe a straightforward approach to the covalent immobilization of cytophilic proteins by microcontact printing, which can be used to pattern cells on substrates. Cytophilic proteins are printed in micropatterns on reactive self-assembled monolayers by using imine chemistry. An aldehyde-terminated monolayer on glass or on gold was obtained by the reaction between an amino-terminated monolayer and terephthaldialdehyde. The aldehyde monolayer was employed as a substrate for the direct microcontact printing of bioengineered, collagen-like proteins by using an oxidized poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) stamp. After immobilization of the proteins into adhesive "islands", the remaining areas were blocked with amino-poly(ethylene glycol), which forms a layer that is resistant to cell adhesion. Human malignant carcinoma (HeLa) cells were seeded and incubated onto the patterned substrate. It was found that these cells adhere to and spread selectively on the protein islands, and avoid the poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) zones. These findings illustrate the importance of microcontact printing as a method for positioning proteins at surfaces and demonstrate the scope of controlled surface chemistry to direct cell adhesion.  相似文献
