We construct two types of twists for the SU(N→∞) twisted-Eguchi-Kawai model, which mimic a periodic boundary condition in the temporal direction only and over an arbitrary extent N0. Over the past 10 years, with the advent of new crystals designs and a new generation of pump lasers, continuous‐wave (cw) optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) have developed into mature monochromatic light sources. Nowadays, cw OPOs can fulfill a wide variety of criteria for sensitive molecular gas sensing. It can access the mid‐infrared wavelength region, where many molecules have their fundamental rotational‐vibrational transitions, with high power. This high power combined with wide wavelength tuning and narrow linewidth creates excellent conditions for sensitive, high‐resolution spectroscopy. OPOs combined with robust methods, such as photoacoustic spectroscopy and cavity‐enhanced spectroscopy, are well suited for field measurements and remote‐sensing applications. The wide tunability of cw OPOs allows detection of larger molecules with broad absorption band structures, and its fast scanning capabilities allow rapid detection of trace gases, the latter is a demand for life‐science applications. After a short introduction about the physical principle of cw OPOs, with its most recent physical developments, this review focuses on sensitive molecular gas sensing with a variety of spectroscopic applications in atmospheric and life sciences.  相似文献

Nile crocodiles undergo a three to five order of magnitude increase in body size during their lifespan. This shift coincides with a change in resource and habitat use which influences the strength, type and symmetry of interactions with other species. Identifying size-specific crocodile groups displaying similar traits is important for conservation planning. Here, we illustrate how stable carbon (δ13 C) and nitrogen (δ15 N) isotope analysis of scute keratin, together with breakpoint modelling analysis can be used to characterise ontogenetic niche shifts. Using a sample set of 238 crocodiles from the Okavango Delta, Botswana (35–463 cm total length), we found prominent size-related changes in the scute keratin δ13 C and δ15 N profiles close to 40 and 119 cm snout-vent length. The first shift corroborated the findings of a traditional stomach-content study conducted on the same population at the same time, and the second conformed to known crocodile ecology. This approach can be used as a first approximation to identify size-specific groups within crocodile populations, and these can then be investigated further using isotopic or other methods.  相似文献

Gadolinium (Gd)-enhanced three-dimensional breath-hold magnetic resonance cardiac-synchronized angiography was performed in 13 patients suspected or known to have thoracic aortic disease. High-quality angiograms of the ascending/descending thoracic aorta and coronary arteries were obtained with this method. MR angiograms were compared with Gd-enhanced angiograms obtained without cardiac synchronization. Synchronized imaging showed significantly better aortic valve leaflet and proximal coronary artery depiction. Synchronization reduced motion artifacts, allowing better visualization of the aortic root and proximal coronary arteries.  相似文献

To study intraindividual vocal changes over time, a longitudinal research design is preferred. However, this procedure reveals many restrictions concerning methodology and interpretation, especially in cases of (semi)retrospective studies. This is illustrated by an investigation of the voices of 20 male Dutch-speaking reporters of the Belgian Radio Broadcasting service. These men read the same text they did 30 years previously for a digital registration. After having copied the high-quality archival recordings digitally, the results of the acoustical analysis of both recordings (recent and archival) were compared. This was done to search for the contribution of aging. In this article we report on the results of the speaking fundamental frequency (SFF) and the standard deviation of the SFF (SFFsd) as a measure of intraindividual variability, and the voice onset time (VOT). Results indicate that, in connected speech, SFF decreased, SFFsd became more restricted, and the VOT increased strongly. The interpretation of the results compels us to conclude that it is extremely difficult to define the specific effect of aging alone, since it is only one element among many others, including methodological concerns.  相似文献

Shape-persistent macrocycles with interiors in the nanometer regime were prepared by the oxidative cyclization of the appropriate bisacetylene precursors under high-dilution conditions. These compounds contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the ring backbone and are decorated with extra annular oligoalkyl or silyl side groups. Interestingly, after depositing them on different surfaces and investigating the self-assembled structures by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), various nanostructures were observed. STM showed that these macrocycles are organized in two-dimensional (2D) layers, whereas AFM showed, in addition, the formation of 2D crystallites and one-dimensional fibrils. These results reveal the importance of the extra annular substitution of the macrocycles in creating patterned surfaces and nanoscale objects.  相似文献

A time-resolved fluorescence spectrometer with laser excitation and picosecond time-correlated single photon counting detection is described. The parameter recovery from experimental data is discussed in detail. Correction methods for errors in the time-correlated single photon counting technique are indicated.
