Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of passive (non-buoyant) and active (buoyant) scalar homogeneous turbulence is carried out using a standard pseudo-spectral numerical method. The flow settings simulated include stationary forced and decaying passive-scalar turbulence, as well as decaying anisotropic active-scalar turbulence. The Schmidt number is unity in all cases. The results are compared with, and are found to be in very good agreement with, previous similar DNS studies. The well-validated DNS data are divided into 19 sets, and are employed to study different large eddy simulation (LES) subgrid-scale (SGS) models for the SGS scalar flux. The models examined include three eddy-viscosity-type models (Smagorinsky, Vreman and Sigma with a constant SGS Schmidt number), a Dynamic Structure model and two versions of the Gradient (Gradient and Modulated Gradient) model. The models are investigated with respect to their ability to predict the orientation, and the magnitude, of the SGS scalar flux. Eddy-viscosity models are found to predict the magnitude of the SGS scalar flux accurately, but are poor at predicting the orientation of the SGS scalar flux. The Dynamic Structure and Gradient models are better than eddy-viscosity models at predicting both the magnitude and direction. However, neither of them can be realised in an actual LES, without carrying additional transport equations. Based on these observations, four new models are proposed – combining directions from Dynamic Structure and Gradient models, and magnitudes from Smagorinsky and Vreman eddy-viscosity models. These models are expected to be better than eddy-viscosity and Modulated Gradient models, and this is confirmed by preliminary a posteriori tests.  相似文献

A general strategy was presented in 2009 by Yamaleev and Carpenter for constructing energy stable weighted essentially non-oscillatory (ESWENO) finite-difference schemes on periodic domains. ESWENO schemes up to eighth order were developed that are stable in the energy norm for systems of linear hyperbolic equations. Herein, boundary closures are developed for the fourth-order ESWENO scheme that maintain, wherever possible, the WENO stencil biasing properties and satisfy the summation-by-parts (SBP) operator convention, thereby ensuring stability in an L2 norm. Second-order and third-order boundary closures are developed that are stable in diagonal and block norms, respectively, and achieve third- and fourth-order global accuracy for hyperbolic systems. A novel set of nonuniform flux interpolation points is necessary near the boundaries to simultaneously achieve (1) accuracy, (2) the SBP convention, and (3) WENO stencil biasing mechanics.  相似文献

The majority of attention on the impact of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals has focused on low-frequency episodic activities. Persistent sources of mid-frequency noise pollution are less well studied. To address this data gap, the contribution of 25 physical, biological and anthropogenic factors to the ambient noise levels in the Wilmington, North Carolina Intracoastal Waterway were analyzed using a principal components analysis and least squares regression. The total number of recreational vessels passing through the waterway per hour is the factor that had the single greatest influence on environmental noise levels. During times of high boat traffic, anthropogenic noise is continuous rather than episodic, and occurs at frequencies that are biologically relevant to bottlenose dolphins. As a daily part of resident bottlenose dolphins' acoustic environment, recreational boating traffic may represent a chronic source of acoustic harassment.  相似文献

Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) scanning microscopy has the potential to enable label‐free in vivo imaging for research and clinical medicine. Volume SRS from focus occurs in the forward scattered direction. Therefore, multiple scattering events are required to direct the light out of the tissue, reducing imaging depth and resolution. Here, a method called Stokes interference SRS (SISRS) is introduced that operates by the addition to the standard pump and stimulated emission probe beams a third beam called the donut beam. The donut is close in wavelength to the probe beam and, after passage through a π phase plate, forms an annular beam in the focal plane with bright nodes above and below focus. The donut beats with the probe beam, and when they destructively interfere with each other, the microscope's 3‐D stimulated emission focal spot is reduced to subwavelength dimensions. A subwavelength focal volume emits a dipole pattern of SRS with forward and backscatter lobes, enabling high‐resolution single‐backscatter imaging from deep within tissues. The reduction of the focal volume also increases the resolution of the scanning image creating imaging beyond the diffraction limit. SISRS imaging may provide in vivo label‐free Raman images comparable with that achieved in stained in vitro tissues in all planes of section. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The physical space version of the stretched vortex subgrid scale model is tested in LES of the turbulent lid‐driven cubic cavity flow. LES is carried out by using a higher order finite‐difference method. The effects of different vortex orientation models and subgrid turbulence spectrums are assessed through comparisons of the LES predictions against DNS. A disorderedn-vector model withp spin interactions previously introduced is studied for the quenched case by means of the replica method and a generalized Parisi theory. We present formal solutions for generaln andp and then study the casep . The high-temperature solution is stable at all temperatures and there is only one phase transition at a temperatureT g. Only longitudinal lowtemperature solutions are possible. There is one spin-glass solution, and it is stable for allT g. The phase transition atT g is of first order and displays a jump discontinuity in the order parametersq j (L) andd. Data on 120 GeV photoproduction ofJ/'s in nuclear targets are re-examined to extract the absorption cross section forJ/'s in high energy collisions with nucleons. We find a =6.6±2.2 mb in contrast with an earlier estimate of 1–2 mb. Comparison of low and high energy data on photon producedJ/'s thus no longer show possible evidence for observable effects of color screening. Examination of representative data on the Feynmanx distributions ofJ/ production by hadrons demonstrates how to extract both the total inelasticJ/-nucleon cross section and the partial cross section into open charm. We find that the data is inconsistent with any significant contribution from color screening.  相似文献

We have revised the additive quark model for inelastic hadronic cross sections with its implications to the average charged multiplicities. The correction to the additive quark model is on the level of 2 mb only if we take into account all possible quark-quark cross sections with respect to flavour. The quark-quark constitutent cross sections have been evaluated. We have attributed average charged multiplicities to the constituent quark cross sections and have found some regularities according to the flavour of the quarks.  相似文献
