Carbon-13 NMR data are reported for trimethyltin derivatives containing ER_n groups where E  C, Si, Ge, Sn, N, O and S including a series of cyclic amines with ring sizes from three to seven. Coupling constant values for the homologous series of fourth group derivatives give goood correlations with the electronegativity of E. The observation of the two-bond, ¦ ²J(¹¹⁹SnE¹³C) ¦ couplings only in the derivatives containing bulky R groups is rationalized by a bimolecular exchange of ER_n groups in the concentrated solutions studied.     

Mössbauer and molecular orbital study of the myoglobin-CO complex

Experimental Mössbauer spectra of the Fe⁵⁷-enriched CO complex of sperm whale myoglobin (MbCO) at T= 4.2 K with and without applied magnetic field (H⊥γ) were measured to derive the sign of the electric field gradient (EFG), the quadrupole splitting ΔE _Q, and the isomer shift δ of the heme iron. We find a positive EFG, δE _Q = 0.363 mm/sec, and δ + 0.266 mm/sec. Molecular orbital calculations were carried out to obtain theoretical estimates of EFG and ΔE _Q for several steric arrangements of the CO ligand relative to the heme group. Our results are most consistent with the conclusion that the iron is situated in the heme plane, and that a bent geometry with a Fe-C-O angle of about 135 ° is more favorable than a more symmetric structure with a linear Fe-C-O geometry.     

Darstellung und Eigenschaften von π-Cyclopentadienylrhodium-bis(tert.-phosphit)-Komplexen

The half-sandwich type compounds C₅H₅Rh[P(OR)₃]₂ (R = CH₃, C₂H₅, C₆H₅, p-CH₃C₆H₄, p-ClC₆H₄) have been prepared from [(P(OR)₃)₂RhCl]₂ and NaC₅H₅. The NMR. data as well as the IR. and mass spectra of the new compounds will be discussed. The preparation of C₅H₅Rh(CO)P(OC₂H₅)₃ is also reported.     

Darstellung und Eigenschaften von Chromtricarbonyl-Komplexen strukturisomerer Borazin-Derivate

The new hexaalkylborazine chromium tricarbonyls (n-Pr)₃B₃N₃Me₃Cr(CO)₃ (V), Me₃B₃N₃(n-Pr)₃Cr(CO)₃ (VI), (i-Pr)₃B₃N₃Me₃Cr(CO)₃ (VII) and Me₃B₃N₃(i-Pr)₃Cr(CO)₃ (VIII) have been prepared from fac-Cr(CO)₃(MeCN)₃ and the corresponding borazine in dioxane or without solvent. They are much more labile than the isomeric complex Et₃B₃N₃Et₃Cr(CO)₃ (IV) which can be readily obtained from Et₃B₃N₃Me₃Cr(CO)₃ and Et₃B₃N₃Et₃ by ring ligand exchange. The NMR., IR., UV. and Mass spectroscopic data of the complexes IV–VIII will be briefly discussed. The preparation of the borazine derivatives (n-Pr)₃B₃N₃Me₃ (IX) and Me₃B₃N₃(n-Pr)₃ (X) is also reported.     

Formation and Properties of Losod,a New Sodium Zeolite

Losod, a new type of crystalline hydrated sodium aluminosilicate, Na₁₂Al₁₂Si₁₂O₄₈ · q H₂O, has been prepared from reaction mixtures containing bulky quaternary alkylammonium ions, particularly azonia-spiro[4.4]nonane, besides sodium ions. Losod crystallizes from batches with a low sodium content (Na/Al ≤ 1 and Si/Al ≈? 1). The quaternary ammonium hydroxide primarily serves as a source of hydroxide ions and is not incorporated into the zeolite crystals. These bulky bases provide a useful means for controlling the alkalinity of the system independently of the concentration of the necessary cations built into the zeolite. The crystals of Losod are hexagonal (a = 12.91 and c = 10.54 Å) and the proposed framework structure shows a polytypic relationship to sodalite and cancrinite. Losod has reversible sorption and ion exchange properties typical of a small-pore zeolite and in essential agreement with the proposed structure.     

Isolierung,Konstitution und Synthese der (R)-(−)-Eucominsäure

From the bulbs of Eucomis punctata L'Hérit. (Liliaceae) and of a hitherto undefined species of Eucomis a new optically active phenolic carboxylic acid, eucomic acid, was isolated. Structure 1 was assigned on the basis of chemical and spectral evidence. The absolute configuration of eucomic acid was determined by its correlation with piscidic acid ((2 R, 3 S)-2-(4′-hydroxybenzyl)-tartaric acid) ( 8 ). Consequently, eucomic acid is (R)-(?)-2-(4′-hydroxybenzyl)-malic acid ( 1 ). For the stereospecific synthesis, methyl cis-p-methoxybenzylidene-succinic acid ( 22 ) was transformed into the γ-lactone 24 which, by catalytic hydrogenolysis, yielded (±)-2-(4′-hydroxybenzyl)-malic acid 1-methyl ester ( 27 ). Resolution with (?)-quinine led to the enantiomeric acids 29 and 30 . The methyl ester of the levorotatory enantiomer 30 was identical with the dimethyl ester 3 of 4′-O-methyl-eucomic acid.

Me₃B₃N₃H₃Cr(CO)₃ has been obtained by ring-ligand exchange starting from Et₃B₃N₃Me₃Cr(CO)₃ and Me₃B₃N₃H₃. The new compound has been characterised by means of their IR, NMR, UV and mass spectroscopic data.
