Efficient drug delivery to the eye remains a challenging task for pharmaceutical scientists. Due to the various anatomical barriers and the clearance mechanisms prevailing in the eye, conventional drug delivery systems, such as eye drop solutions, suffer from low bioavailability. More invasive methods, such as intravitreal injections and implants, cause adverse effects in the eye. Recently, an increasing number of scientists have turned to nanomaterial‐based drug delivery systems to address the challenges faced by conventional methods. This paper highlights recent applications of various nanomaterials, such as polymeric micelles, hydrogels, liposomes, niosomes, dendrimers, and cyclodextrins as ocular drug delivery systems to enhance the bioavailability of ocular therapeutic agents.

SPR biosensing is increasingly popular for the detection of a multitude of biomolecules. It offers label‐free detection and study of proteins, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules in real time. A recent trend involves incorporation of AuNPs, either within the sensing surface itself or as signal enhancing tagging molecules. The importance of AuNP and detecting agent spacing is described and techniques using macromolecular spacing aids are highlighted. Recent methods to enhance SPR detection capabilities using gold nanoparticles are reviewed, as well as device fabrication and the results of incorporation. SPR detection is a highly versatile method for the detection of biomolecules and, with the incorporation of AuNPs, shows promise in extending it to a number of new applications.

A simple and electrolyte-free ion-transfer electrosynthesis micro-reactor system (volume 100 μL, up to 10 mg batches) for processes at liquid–liquid interfaces is developed and demonstrated for the reduction of aldehydes and imines. The title compound [systematic name: 4‐amino‐1‐(2‐deoxy‐β‐d ‐erythro‐pentofuranosyl)‐5‐ethynylpyrimidin‐2(1H)‐one], C11H13N3O4, shows two conformations in the crystalline state. The N‐glycosylic bonds of both conformers adopt similar conformations, with χ = −149.2 (1)° for conformer (I‐1) and −151.4 (1)° for conformer (I‐2), both in the anti range. The sugar residue of (I‐1) shows a C2′‐endo envelope conformation (2E, S‐type), with P = 164.7 (1)° and τm = 36.9 (1)°, while (I‐2) shows a major C3′‐exo sugar pucker (C3′‐exo‐C2′‐endo, 3T2, S‐type), with P = 189.2 (1)° and τm = 33.3 (1)°. Both conformers participate in the formation of a layered three‐dimensional crystal structure with a chain‐like arrangement of the conformers. The ethynyl groups do not participate in hydrogen bonding, but are arranged in proximal positions.  相似文献

Lightly cross‐linked natural rubber (NR, cis‐1,4‐polyisoprene) was found to be an exceptional cold programmable shape memory polymer (SMP) with strain storage of up to 1000%. These networks are stabilized by strain‐induced crystals. Here, we explore the influence of mechanical stress applied perpendicular to the elongation direction of the network on the stability of these crystals. We found that the material recovers its original shape at a critical transverse stress. It could be shown that this is due to a disruption of the strain‐stabilizing crystals, which represents a completely new trigger for SMPs. The variation of transverse stress allows tuning of the trigger temperature Ttrig(σ) in a range of 45 to 0 °C, which is the first example of manipulating the transition of a crystal‐stabilized SMP after programming.  相似文献
