THE REACTIONS OF N3P3CL6 AND RELATED COMPOUNDS WITH DIFUNCTIONAL REAGENTS. COMPARISONS AND CONTRASTS

Abstract

The reactions of N₃P₃Cl₆ with a variety of difunctional reagents are discussed. NMR spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic investigations are presented.     

Reduction of Aryl Trifluoromethyl Oximes

Borane-tetrahydrofuran complex reduces trifluoromethyl oximes to trifluoromethyl hydroxylamines in good yields.     

Efficient Preparation of Hybrid Linear‐Branched Esters of PEG‐PEE Derivatives

A simple and efficient preparation of a number of hybrid linear‐branched PEG esters are described. The polymers are generated by direct coupling of PEG–carboxylic acids and a variety of pentaerythritol ethoxylates using carbon tetrabromide catalyst.     

cyc-DEP: Cyclic immunofluorescence profiling of particles collected using dielectrophoresis

Cancer is a highly heterogenous disease that requires precise detection tools and active surveillance methods. Liquid biopsy assays provide an agnostic way to follow the complex trajectory of cancer, providing better patient stratification tools for optimized treatment. Here, we present the development of a low-volume liquid biopsy assay called cyc-DEP (cyclic immunofluorescent imaging on dielectrophoretic chip) to profile biomarkers collected on a dielectrophoretic microfluidic chip platform. To enable on-chip cyclic imaging, we optimized a fluorophore quenching method and sequential rounds of on-chip staining with fluorescently conjugated primary antibodies. cyc-DEP allows for the quantification of a multiplex array of proteins using 25 µl of a patient plasma sample. We utilized nanoparticles from a prostate adenocarcinoma (LNCaP) cell line and a panel of six target proteins to develop our proof-of-concept technique. We then used cyc-DEP to quantify blood plasma levels of target proteins from healthy individuals, low-grade and high-grade prostate cancer patients (n = 3 each) in order to demonstrate that our platform is suitable for liquid biopsy analysis in its present form. To ensure accurate quantification of signal intensities and comparisons between different samples, we incorporated a signal intensity normalization method (fluorescent beads) and a custom signal intensity quantification algorithm that account for the distribution of signal across hundreds of collection regions on each chip. Our technique enabled a threefold improvement in multiplicity for detecting proteins associated with fluid samples, opening doors for early detection, and active surveillance through quantification of a multiplex array of biomarkers from low-volume liquid biopsies.     

Nonlinear spectral-spatial control and localization of supercontinuum radiation

We present the first observation of spatiospectral control and localization of supercontinuum light through the nonlinear interaction of spectral components in extended periodic structures. We use an array of optical waveguides in a LiNbO3 crystal and employ the interplay between diffraction and nonlinearity to dynamically control the output spectrum of the supercontinuum radiation. This effect presents an efficient scheme for optically tunable spectral filtering of supercontinua.     

Partial Data for the Neumann-to-Dirichlet Map

We show that measurements of a Neumann-to-Dirichlet map, with either inputs or outputs restricted to part of the boundary, can determine an electric potential on that domain. Given a convexity condition on the domain, either the set on which measurements are taken, or the set on which input functions are supported, can be made to be arbitrarily small. The result is analogous to the result by Kenig, Sjöstrand, and Uhlmann for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. The main new ingredient in the proof is an improved Carleman estimate for the Schrödinger operator with appropriate boundary conditions. This is proved by Fourier analysis of a conjugated operator along the boundary of the domain.     

Improved Synthesis,Structure, and Solution Characterization of the Cyclic 48-Tungsto-8-Arsenate(V), [H4As8W48O184]36−

We report on an improved synthesis and structural characterization of the cyclic 48-tungsto–8-arsenate(V) [H₄As₈W₄₈O₁₈₄]^36? (1). The mixed lithium–potassium salt of this polyanion, K_26.5Li_9.5[H₄As₈W₄₈O₁₈₄]·90H₂O (KLi-1), has been studied in the solid state by IR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and elemental analysis, and in solution by ¹⁸³W NMR spectroscopy.
