A series of superabsorbent hydrogels were prepared from carrageenan and partially neutralized acrylic acid by gamma irradiation at room temperature. The gel fraction, swelling kinetics and the equilibrium degree of swelling (EDS) of the hydrogels were studied. It was found that the incorporation of even 1% carrageenan (sodium salt) increases the EDS of the hydrogels from 320 to 800 g/g. Thermal analysis were carried out to determine the amount of free water and bound water in the hydrogels. Under optimum conditions, poly(acrylic acid)–carrageenan hydrogels with high gel fraction (80%) and very high EDS (800 g/g) were prepared gamma radiolytically from aqueous solution containing 15% partially neutralized acrylic acid and 1–5% carrageenan. The hydrogels were also found to be sensitive to the pH and the ionic strength of the medium. 相似文献

Two types of structurally well-defined, self-assembled zinc porphyrin-fullerene conjugates were formed by "two-point" binding strategies to probe the effect of axial ligation or pi-pi-type interactions on the photochemical charge stabilization in the supramolecular dyads. To achieve this, meso-tetraphenylporphyrin was functionalized to possess one or four [18]crown-6 moieties at different locations on the porphyrin macrocycle while fullerene was functionalized to possess an alkyl ammonium cation, and a pyridine or phenyl entities. As a result of the crown ether-ammonium cation complexation, and zinc-pyridine coordination or pi-pi-type interactions, stable zinc porphyrin-fullerene conjugates with defined distance and orientation were formed. Evidence for the zinc-pyridine complexation or pi-pi-type interactions was obtained from the spectral and computational studies. Steady-state and time-resolved emission studies revealed efficient quenching of the zinc-porphyrin singlet excited state in these dyads, and the measured rates of charge separation, k(CS) were found to be slightly better in the case of the dyads held by axial coordination and crown ether-cation complexation. Nanosecond transient absorption studies provided evidence for the electron transfer reactions, and these studies also revealed charge stabilization in these dyads. The lifetimes of the radical ion pairs were found to depend upon the type of porphyrins utilized to form the dyads, that is, porphyrin possessing the crown ether moiety at the ortho position of one of the phenyl rings yielded prolonged charge stabilized states. Addition of pyridine to the supramolecular dyads eliminated the zinc-pyridine coordination or pi-pi-type interactions of the "two-point" bound systems due to the formation of a new zinc-pyridine axial bond thus giving a unique opportunity to probe the effect of axial coordination or pi-pi interactions on k(CS) and k(CR). Under these conditions, the measured electron transfer rates revealed faster k(CS) and slower k(CR) as compared to those obtained in the absence of added pyridine. The oxidation of selected clinically important neurotransmitter metabolites with acidic potassium permanganate in the presence of polyphosphates evokes chemiluminescence of sufficient intensity to enable the sensitive determination of these species. Limits of detection for 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA), vanilmandelic acid (VMA; α,4-dihydroxy-3-methoxybenzeneacetic acid), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylglycol (MHPG), homovanillic acid (HVA, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylacetic acid) and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) were between 5 × 10−9 and 4 × 10−8 M, using flow-injection analysis methodology. Abstract— The formation of 8-methoxypsoralen-DNA monoadducts and cross-links is presumed to be responsible for the efficacy of photochemotherapies that employ 8-methoxypsoralen activated with long-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (UVA,320–400 nm). In this report it is shown that 8-methoxypsoralen can also be activated with visible light (419 nm). Bovine aorta smooth muscle cells were treated with 8-methoxypsoralen (1000 ng/mL) and 419 nm light (up to 12 J/cm2 ). Cellular DNA was isolated, hydrolyzed using nucleolytic enzymes and then analyzed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The primary effect of using visible light instead of long-wavelength ultraviolet radiation is a more than 10-fold reduction in the extent of cross-link formation. Because the extent of monoadduct and cross-link formation has not been routinely measured in experiments in which cellular assays have been performed, it is difficult to correlate cell response to the presence of a particular type of 8-methoxypsoralen photoadduct (monoadduct or cross-link). Thus, the use of visible light allows the study of cells containing nearly 100% monoadducts. In addition, the reduction in cross-link formation when visible light is used to activate the compound may also reduce the mutagenicity of 8-methoxypsoralen and hence enhance its therapeutic efficacy. 相似文献

A series of heterodimetallic complexes of general formula (C5R5)M(μ-CO)3RuC5Me5 (M = Cr, Mo, W; R = Me, Et) has been prepared in good yields by the reaction of [C5R5M(CO)3]− with [C5Me5Ru(CH3CN)3]+. (C5Me4Et)W(μ-CO)3Ru(C5Me5) was characterized by a crystal structure determination. The W---Ru bond length of 2.41 Å is consistent with the formulation of a metal-metal triple bond, while the unsymmetrical bonding mode of the three bridging carbonyl groups reflects the inherent non-equivalence of the two different C5R5M-units. The properties of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A epoxy resin toughened with poly(ether sulfone ether ketone) (PESEK) and poly(ether sulfone) (PES) polymers were investigated. PESEK was synthesised by the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4,4’-difluorobenzophenone with dihydroxydiphenylsulfone using sulfolane as solvent and potassium carbonate as catalyst at 230 °C. The T
g–composition behaviour of the homogeneous epoxy resin/PESEK blend was modelled using Fox, Gordon–Taylor and Kelley–Bueche equations. A single relaxation near the glass transition of epoxy resin was observed in all the blend systems. From dynamic mechanical analysis, the crosslink density of the blends was found to decrease with increase in the thermoplastic concentration. The storage modulus of the epoxy/PESEK blends was lower than that of neat resin, whilst it is higher for epoxy/PES blends up to glass transition temperature, thereafter it decreases. Scanning electron microscopic studies of the blends revealed a homogeneous morphology. The homogeneity of the blends was attributed to the similarity in chemical structure of the modifier and the cured epoxy network and due to the H-bonding interactions between the blend components. The fracture toughness of epoxy resin increased on blending with PESEK and PES. The increase in fracture toughness was due to the increase in ductility of the matrix. The thermal stability of the blends was comparable to that of neat epoxy resin. 相似文献

The room-temperature crystal structure of the brownmillerite SrCaMnGaO5+δ (δ=0.035) has been refined from neutron powder diffraction data; space group Ima2, a=15.7817(6), b=5.4925(2), c=5.3196(2)> Å. Mn and Ga occupy 99.0(2)% of the 6- and 4-coordinate sites, respectively. A combination of magnetometry, neutron diffraction and μSR spectroscopy has shown that the compound orders magnetically at 180 K, and that the low-temperature phase has a G-type antiferromagnetic structure, with an ordered magnetic moment of 3.30(2) μB per Mn at 2 K. Displaced hysteresis loops provide evidence that the atomic moment has an additional, glassy component. Magnetometry shows that significant short-range magnetic interactions persist above 180 K, and μSR that the spin fluctuations are thermally activated in this temperature region. The compound is an electrical insulator which at 159 K shows an unusually large magnetoresistance of 85% in 6 T, increasing to 90% in 13 T. 相似文献

In addition to fourteen monohydroxylated compounds, the sterol fraction contains eight functionalized sidechain sterols, three of them new: 3 β-hydroxy-24-norchol-5-en-23-al (19) , (22-trans)-3 β-hydroxycholest-5, 22-dien-24-one (20) and (22R, 23R, 24S) or (22S, 23S, 24S)- 22,23-epoxy-24-methylchoest-5-en-3 β-ol (24).
