The synthesis of chiral “4,7-lactam“ $\text{5}$ has been accomplished starting from natural 6-aminopenicillanic acid.     

A study of the 75As(n,n'γ)75As reaction

The de-excitation gammas following the inelastic scattering of neutrons from ⁷⁵As have been studied for incident neutron energies from 1300 to 2800 keV in steps of 100 keV. The energy levels and the branching ratios of their decays have been deduced from excitation function measurements: 58 energy levels have been found in the excitation energy region below 2.8 MeV, twelve of which are reported for the first time in this work. The experimental excitation functions and angular distributions have been compared with the theoretical predictions based on the statistical theory of the compound nucleus. Spin and parity assignments for the levels and multipolarities for the decays are proposed for excitation energies of levels up to 2300 keV.     

On Rational Varieties Smooth Except at a Seminormal Singular Point

We construct a class of projective rational varieties X of any dimension m ≥ 1, which are smooth except at a point O, with the projective space ? ^m as normalization, having smooth branches, and reduced projectivized tangent cone in O. The Hilbert function of X is considered and is explicitly computed when the point O is seminormal. Indeed, we study seminormality, obtaining necessary and sufficient conditions for O to be seminormal and show that in such case the tangent cone is reduced and seminormal.

We explicitly explain how to fix a wrong statement in a preliminary result of our previous paper on the conductor at a multiplanar singularity.     

Exponential growth for the wave equation with compact time‐periodic positive potential

We prove the existence of smooth positive potentials V(t, x), periodic in time and with compact support in x, for which the Cauchy problem for the wave equation u_tt ? Δ_xu + V(t, x)u = 0 has solutions with exponentially growing global and local energy. Moreover, we show that there are resonances, z ∈ ?, |z| > 1, associated to V(t, x). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Loss of derivatives in evolution Cauchy problems

Abstract We study relations between modulus of continuity of the coefficients and loss of derivatives in the Cauchy problem for evolution operators with real characteristics in the Petrovsky sense. We also provide counterexamples to show that the obtained classification is sharp. Keywords: Cauchy problem, Evolution equations, Loss of regularity of the solution     

Phenomenological implications of light stop and higgsinos

We examine the phenomenological implications of light $\tilde t_R $ and higgsinos in the Minimal Supersymetric Standard Model, assuming tan² β<m _t m _b and heavy $\tilde t_L $ and gauginos. In this simplified setting, we study the contributions to Δm _{B d},ε _K,BR(b→sγ),R _b≡Γ(Z→bb) /Γ(Z→hadrons),BR(t→bW), and their interplay.     

Neutrino masses and mixings: a theoretical perspective

We briefly review the recent activity on neutrino masses and mixings which was prompted by the confirmation of neutrino oscillations by the Superkamiokande experiment.
