Inclusive production of vector mesons in π+ p interactions at 250 GeV/c

We report on a study of ρ⁰, ρ⁺, ω, \(\bar K^{*0} (892)\) andK ^*0 (892) inclusive production in π⁺ p interactions at 250 GeV/c, for ρ⁺, \(\bar K^{*0} (892)\) for the first time in a π⁺ p experiment. The data are compared withK ⁺ p data in the same experiment, with results of other experiments and with quark-parton models. Interesting differences are found between ρ^+,0 and ω production.     

Inclusive\bar K^{0*} (892) andK 0*(892) production on silicon by 200 GeVK − andπ −

The production of the neutralK ^? (892) resonances by 200 GeVK ^? andπ ^? has been studied over the kinematic range 0.0<x _f<1.0 andp _t ² <5.0 GeV². Longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions are presented. In addition the decay angular distributions inK ^? fragmentation to \(\bar K^{0*} \) have been investigated.

A finitely convergent “row-action” method for the convex feasibility problem

We present a modification of the Cyclic Subgradient Projection (CSP) method by Censor and Lent, which solves the convex feasibility problem in a finite number of steps when a Slater type condition holds, while preserving its row-action properties. A linear rate of convergence for the CSP method is established assuming the same hypothesis.Research partially supported by CNPq, under Grant No. 301699/81.     

Error bounds for strongly convex programs and (super)linearly convergent iterative schemes for the least 2-norm solution of linear programs

Given an arbitrary point (x, u) inR ⁿ × R ₊ ^m , we give bounds on the Euclidean distance betweenx and the unique solution to a strongly convex program in terms of the violations of the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions by the arbitrary point (x, u). These bounds are then used to derive linearly and superlinearly convergent iterative schemes for obtaining the unique least 2-norm solution of a linear program. These schemes can be used effectively in conjunction with the successive overrelaxation (SOR) methods for solving very large sparse linear programs.Sponsored by the United States Army under Contract No. DAAG29-80-C-0041. Proton-proton correlations at small relative momentum in neon-nucleus collisions at E/A=400 and 800 MeV

Proton-proton small angle correlations have been measured in neon-nucleus collisions, using the 4 pi detector Diogene, at 400 and 800 MeV per nucleon incident energies. Values of the size of the emitting region are obtained by comparison with the Koonin formula, taking into account the biases of the apparatus. The dependence of the density on target mass and incident energy is also analysed.     

Kaon production in\bar pp interactions at c.m. energies from 200 to 900 GeV

A detailed analysis ofK _s ⁰ production in \(\bar pp\) |<2.5 the average transverse momentum is found to be 0.53±0.07 GeV/c at 200 GeV and 0.62±0.08 GeV/c at 900 GeV, which is an increase with respect to data at c.m. energies below 60 GeV. TheK _s ⁰ production cross sections in inelastic collisions are 29±4 mb at 200 GeV and 63±6 mb at 900 GeV, showing an increase compared to lower energy data. The central kaon density is found to increase as a logarithmic function of energy. At 900 GeV, where statistics are sufficient to allow one to draw conclusions, the average transverse momentum is higher in events with large charged multiplicity than in events with low multiplicity.
