Osmotic and small-angle neutron-scattering measurements are performed to study the volume transition that occurs in sodium polyacrylate gels swollen in sodium chloride solutions when calcium ions are introduced. In the presence of calcium ions, the osmotic pressure depends sensitively on the sodium chloride concentration, indicating that calcium preferentially replaces condensed sodium ions. This substitution modifies the effective attractive interaction between polymer chains. Analysis of the osmotic data in terms of the Flory–Huggins theory reveals a sharp increase in the third-order ternary thermodynamic interaction parameter upon introduction of calcium ions. The neutron-scattering response at low scattering vectors q displays power-law behavior with a slope of approximately −3.6, consistent with scattering from surfaces of large objects. These results are in agreement with the development of dense polymer-rich regions dispersed in a soft polymer matrix. At larger q, a region with slope −1 is observed, characteristic of rigid linear structures.

A new group of synthetic macromolecular conjugates was synthesised in which poly(Lys) or a branched polypeptide poly[Lys-(DL-Alam)] (m≅3) were used as carrier and 4-(ethoxymethylene)-2–phenyl–5 (4H)-oxazolone as hapten. These conjugates were characterized by amino acid analysis, identification of terminal residues of the side chain, sedimentation analysis. The conformation of conjugates and of carrier polypeptides were analyzed by circular dichroism spectroscopy in water solutions at various pH and ionic strengths. These data indicated a marked dependence of the conformation of the conjugate on the structure of carrier and on the number of the side chain terminal haptens (phOx). In vitro cytotoxicity of these polymers was also investigated using two different assays, by measuring the viability of isolated rat liver cells and the effect on growth of HeLa cells. Toxicity of polypeptides could be diminished by conjugates containing a higher amount of oxazolone. These conjugates with defined conformation and toxicological properties are considered suitable to analyse the carrier function of branched polypeptides, particularly the interaction with the immunological network.  相似文献

Polyolefin composites were prepared with CaCO3 fillers of different specific surface area. The fillers were surface treated with stearic acid between 0 and 100% surface coverage. As an effect of the treatment, surface tension of the fillers and also polymer/filler interaction decreased. The relation between interfacial interaction and mechanical properties of the composites was analysed by the equation developed earlier to describe the composition dependence of the tensile yield stress. The characteristics of the interphase were calculated, its yield stress decreases and thickness increases with increasing surface coverage. Reversible work of adhesion can be successfully related to the tensile yield stress, but a more complicated correlation exists between the thickness of the interphase and the strength of the interaction than assumed earlier. Other mechanical properties also change with the surface treatment; modulus and strength decrease and extensibility increases with decreasing polymer/filler interaction.  相似文献

Philadelphus coronarius is a versatile plant and its use in folk medicine has a long tradition; however, scientifically, the medical utilization of the herb is a less explored research field. The aim of our study was to identify and determine the quantity of the bioactive compounds of both the leaf and the flower and prepare a lyophilized product of them, from which medical ointments were formulated, since the topical application of P. coronarius has also not been studied. In vitro drug release, texture analysis and biocompatibility experiments were carried out, as well as the investigation of microbiological, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. According to our results the composition and the selected excipients of the ointments have a great impact on the drug release, texture and bioavailability of the preparation. During the microbiological testing, the P. coronarius leaf was effective against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, but it did not significantly decrease IL-4 production when it was tested on HaCaT cells. P. coronarius is a promising herb, and its topical application in antimicrobial therapy can be a useful addition to modern medical therapy.  相似文献

A DNA G-quadruplex adopting a (3+1) hybrid structure was modified in two adjacent syn positions of the antiparallel strand with anti-favoring 2′-deoxy-2′-fluoro-riboguanosine (FrG) analogues. The two substitutions promoted a structural rearrangement to a topology with the 5′-terminal G residue located in the central tetrad and the two modified residues linked by a V-shaped zero-nucleotide loop. Strikingly, whereas a sugar pucker in the preferred north domain is found for both modified nucleotides, the FrG analogue preceding the V-loop is forced to adopt the unfavored syn conformation in the new quadruplex fold. Apparently, a preferred C3′-endo sugar pucker within the V-loop architecture outweighs the propensity of the FrG analogue to adopt an anti glycosidic conformation. Refolding into a V-loop topology is likewise observed for a sequence modified at corresponding positions with two riboguanosine substitutions. In contrast, 2′-F-arabinoguanosine analogues with their favored south-east sugar conformation do not support formation of the V-loop topology. Examination of known G-quadruplexes with a V-shaped loop highlights the critical role of the sugar conformation for this distinct structural motif.  相似文献

Polynitrides are intrinsically thermodynamically unstable at ambient conditions and require peculiar synthetic approaches. Now, a one-step synthesis of metal–inorganic frameworks Hf4N20⋅N2, WN8⋅N2, and Os5N28⋅3 N2 via direct reactions between elements in a diamond anvil cell at pressures exceeding 100 GPa is reported. The porous frameworks (Hf4N20, WN8, and Os5N28) are built from transition-metal atoms linked either by polymeric polydiazenediyl (polyacetylene-like) nitrogen chains or through dinitrogen units. Triply bound dinitrogen molecules occupy channels of these frameworks. Owing to conjugated polydiazenediyl chains, these compounds exhibit metallic properties. The high-pressure reaction between Hf and N2 also leads to a non-centrosymmetric polynitride Hf2N11 that features double-helix catena-poly[tetraz-1-ene-1,4-diyl] nitrogen chains [−N−N−N=N−].  相似文献

The understanding of the retention behavior of large molecules is an area of interest in liquid chromatography. Resorcinarene‐based cavitands are cavity‐shaped cyclic oligomers that can create host–guest interactions. We have investigated the chromatographic behavior of two types of cyclic tetramers as analytes in high‐performance liquid chromatography. The experiments were performed at four different temperatures (15, 25, 35, 45°C) on two types of reversed stationary phases (C8 and C18) from two different manufacturers. We have found a huge difference between the retention of resorcinarenes and cavitands. In some cases, the retention factor of cavitands was even a hundred times larger than the retention factor of resorcinarenes. The retention of methylated derivates was two to four times larger compared to that of demethylated compounds on every column. The opposite retention behavior of the resorcinarenes and cavitands on the two types of stationary phases showed well the difference of the selectivity of the XTerra and BDS Hypersil columns. The retention mechanism was studied by the thermodynamic parameters calculated from the van't Hoff equation.  相似文献
