Characterization of disk media

It has been shown that the scalar properties of recording media can be characterized by a moving model that includes reversible and irreversible magnetizing processes. A test of this model for various media is reported in this paper. It is found that the model is capable of calculating accurate major and minor loops.     

On the harmonic averages of numerical sequences

In recent years, the almost sure central limit theorem attracted widespread attention in Probability Theory. It involves the harmonic (also called logarithmic) averages of a certain numerical sequence formed from a sequence of independent, identically distributed random variables. Our primary aim is to study the convergence behavior of the sequence of harmonic averages of a given numerical sequence from the viewpoint of Summability Theory. Herz spaces and summability of Fourier transforms

A general summability method is considered for functions from Herz spaces K^α_p,r (?^d ). The boundedness of the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator on Herz spaces is proved in some critical cases. This implies that the maximal operator of the θ ‐means σ^θ _T f is also bounded on the corresponding Herz spaces and σ^θ _T f → f a.e. for all f ∈ K^{–d /p} _p,∞ (?^d ). Moreover, σ^θ _T f (x) converges to f (x) at each p ‐Lebesgue point of f ∈ K^{–d /p} _p,∞ (?^d ) if and only if the Fourier transform of θ is in the Herz space K^{d /p} _{p ′,1} (?^d ). Multiobjective management of mining under water hazard by game theory

The management of an aquifer is studied under the assumption that the solution of the multiobjective programming model describing the management problem should satisfy a certain set of axioms. It is shown that a certain class of multiobjective problems may be solved by a game-theoretical concept leading to a single objective quasiconvex programming problem. The method is generalization of Nash's cooperative game theoretical model, and may lean on Zeuther's bargaining process. The methodology is applied to the Transdanubian Karstic region in Hungary where three objectives are present: mining costs, water supply and environmental protection. Results are compared with the solution previously obtained by compromise programming with an l₁-norm. It is found that results obtained by the two methods are comparable.     

Freeze-out conditions in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions

We present recent results on single particle transverse momentum distributions of pions, kaons and protons, measured in CERN Experiment NA44, of 200 AGeV/c S+S and 158 AGeV/c Pb+Pb central collisions. By comparing these data with thermal and transport models, freeze-out parameters like the temperatureT _fo and the chemical potentials (μ _q ,μ _s ) are extracted and discussed.

Herstellung einiger verzweigter Paraffine im oligomeren Bereich

Synthesis of some branched paraffins of high molecular weight Synthesis and properties of two series of branched paraffins of high molecular weight are described. In the course of the preparation of one of the starting materials the Wolff-Kishner reduction of a sterically hindered ketone, unstable in basic medium, has been elaborated.
