Metastable intermolecular charge-transfer complexes with a pentavalent carbon atom

A novel type of metastable complexes of metal (such as Na) atoms with a super-fluorinated carbon molecule is investigated, with a carbon atom exhibiting a unique, pentavalent character. It is induced by the charge transfer from the alkali metal component, followed by a geometric compression of the ion pair system. Analysis of the electron-density distribution confirms the real chemical nature of the extra C-F bond. Structure and stability of the system are characterized ab initio, and a spectrum of electronic perturbations is considered. The ways of forming the systems are discussed, and the spectroscopic parameters are predicted, facilitating their detection in experiments.     

On the diffeomorphic type of the complement to a line arrangement in a projective plane

We show that the diffeomorphic type of the complement to a line arrangement in a complex projective plane P ² depends only on the graph of line intersections if no line in the arrangement contains more than two points in which at least two lines intersect. This result also holds for some special arrangements which do not satisfy this property. However it is not true in general, see [Rybnikov G., On the fundamental group of the complement of a complex hyperplane arrangement, Funct. Anal. Appl., 2011, 45(2), 137–148].     

Standoff detection of large organic molecules using Rydberg fingerprint spectroscopy and microwave Rayleigh scattering

We present a technique for nonintrusive and standoff detection of large organic molecules using coherent microwave Rayleigh scattering from plasma produced by structure sensitive photoionization through Rydberg states. We test the method on 1,4-diazobicyclooctane. Transitions between the 3s Rydberg state and higher lying Rydberg states are probed using two-color photoionization with 266?nm photons and photons in the range of 460-2400?nm. Photoionization is detected using microwave radiation, which is scattered by the unbounded electrons. Highly resolved Rydberg spectra are acquired in vacuum and in air.
