We study the statistical properties of population dynamics evolving in a realistic two-dimensional compressible turbulent velocity field. We show that the interplay between turbulent dynamics and population growth and saturation leads to quasilocalization and a remarkable reduction in the carrying capacity. The statistical properties of the population density are investigated and quantified via multifractal scaling analysis. We also investigate numerically the singular limit of negligibly small growth rates and delocalization of population ridges triggered by uniform advection.  相似文献

We analyze the critical transitions (a) to endemic states in an SIS epidemiological model, and (b) to full synchronization in an ensemble of coupled chaotic maps, on networks where, at any given time, each node is connected to just one neighbour. In these “monogamous” populations, the lack of connectivity in the instantaneous interaction pattern—that would prevent both the propagation of an infection and the collective entrainment into synchronization—is compensated by occasional random reconnections which recombine interacting couples by exchanging their partners. The transitions to endemic states and to synchronization are recovered if the recombination rate is sufficiently large, thus giving rise to a bifurcation as this rate varies. We study this new critical phenomenon both analytically and numerically.  相似文献

Nuclear spin relaxation provides useful information related to the dynamics of molecular systems. When relaxation is driven by intermolecular dipolar interactions, the relevant spectral density functions (SDFs) also have significant contributions, in principle, from distant spins all over the dynamic range typically probed by NMR experiments such as NOESY. In this work, we investigate the intermolecular dipolar spin relaxation as driven by the relative diffusion of solvent and solute molecules taking place under a central force field, and we examine the relevant implications for (preferential) solvation studies. For this purpose, we evaluate the SDFs by employing a numerical approach based on spatial discretization of the time-propagation equation, and we supply an analytical solution for the simplest case of a steplike mean-field potential. Several situations related to different solute-solvent pair correlation functions are examined in terms of static/dynamic effects and relaxation modes, and some conclusions are drawn about the interpretation of NOE measurements. While we confirm previous results concerning the spoiling effect of long-range spins (Halle, B. J. Chem. Phys. 2003, 119, 12372), we also show that SDFs are sufficiently sensitive to pair correlation functions that useful, yet rather complicated, inferences can be made on the nature of the solvation shell.  相似文献

We propose a new O(n)-space implementation of the GKO-Cauchy algorithm for the solution of linear systems where the coefficient matrix is Cauchy-like. Moreover, this new algorithm makes a more efficient use of the processor cache memory; for matrices of size larger than n ≈ 500–1,000, it outperforms the customary GKO algorithm. We present an applicative case of Cauchy-like matrices with non-reconstructible main diagonal. In this special instance, the O(n) space algorithms can be adapted nicely to provide an efficient implementation of basic linear algebra operations in terms of the low displacement-rank generators.  相似文献

Let $\mathcal{C}$ be the set of all possible quantum states. We study the convex subsets of $\mathcal{C}$ with attention focused on the lattice theoretical structure of these convex subsets and, as a result, find a framework capable of unifying several aspects of quantum mechanics, including entanglement and Jaynes’ Max-Ent principle. We also encounter links with entanglement witnesses, which leads to a new separability criteria expressed in lattice language. We also provide an extension of a separability criteria based on convex polytopes to the infinite dimensional case and show that it reveals interesting facets concerning the geometrical structure of the convex subsets. It is seen that the above mentioned framework is also capable of generalization to any statistical theory via the so-called convex operational models’ approach. In particular, we show how to extend the geometrical structure underlying entanglement to any statistical model, an extension which may be useful for studying correlations in different generalizations of quantum mechanics.  相似文献

The effects implied for the structure of compact objects by the modification of General Relativity (GR) produced by the generalization of the Lagrangian density to the form $f(R)=R+\alpha R^2$ , where $R$ is the Ricci curvature scalar, have been recently explored. It seems likely that this squared-gravity may allow heavier Neutron Stars (NSs) than GR. In addition, these objects can be useful to constrain free parameters of modified-gravity theories. The differences between alternative gravity theories are enhanced in the strong gravitational regime. In this regime, because of the complexity of the field equations, perturbative methods become a good choice to treat the problem. Following previous works in the field, we performed a numerical integration of the structure equations that describe NSs in $f(R)$ -gravity, recovering their mass-radius relations, but focusing on particular features that arise from this approach in the profiles of the NS interior. We show that these profiles run in correlation with the second-order derivative of the analytic approximation to the Equation of State (EoS), which leads to regions where the enclosed mass decreases with the radius in a counter-intuitive way. We reproduce all computations with a simple polytropic EoS to separate zeroth-order modified gravity effects.  相似文献

We propose a generalization of the structured doubling algorithm to compute invariant subspaces of structured matrix pencils that arise in the context of solving linear quadratic optimal control problems. The new algorithm is designed to attain better accuracy when the classical Riccati equation approach for the solution of the optimal control problem is not well suited because the stable and unstable invariant subspaces are not well separated (because of eigenvalues near or on the imaginary axis) or in the case when the Riccati solution does not exist at all. We analyze the convergence of the method and compare the new method with the classical structured doubling algorithm as well as some structured QR methods. Let 𝒞 be a class of groups. We give sufficient conditions ensuring that a free product of residually 𝒞 groups is again residually 𝒞, and analogous conditions are given for LE-𝒞 groups. As a corollary, we obtain that the class of residually amenable groups and the one of locally embeddable into amenable (LEA) groups are closed under taking free products.

Moreover, we consider the pro-𝒞 topology and we characterize special HNN extensions and amalgamated free products that are residually 𝒞, where 𝒞 is a suitable class of groups. In this way, we describe special HNN extensions and amalgamated free products that are residually amenable.  相似文献

The Severi variety parameterizes plane curves of degree dd with δδ nodes. Its degree is called the Severi degree. For large enough dd, the Severi degrees coincide with the Gromov–Witten invariants of CP2CP2.
