For a knowledge-based system that fails to provide the correct answer, it is important to be able to tune the system while minimizing overall change in the knowledge-base. There are a variety of reasons why the answer is incorrect ranging from incorrect knowledge to information vagueness to incompleteness. Still, in all these situations, it is typically the case that most of the knowledge in the system is likely to be correct as specified by the expert (s) and/or knowledge engineer (s). In this paper, we propose a method to identify the possible changes by understanding the contribution of parameters on the outputs of concern. Our approach is based on Bayesian Knowledge Bases for modeling uncertainties. We start with single parameter changes and then extend to multiple parameters. In order to identify the optimal solution that can minimize the change to the model as specified by the domain experts, we define and evaluate the sensitivity values of the results with respect to the parameters. We discuss the computational complexities of determining the solution and show that the problem of multiple parameters changes can be transformed into Linear Programming problems, and thus, efficiently solvable. Our work can also be applied towards validating the knowledge base such that the updated model can satisfy all test-cases collected from the domain experts.  相似文献

In wireless networks, Connected Dominating Sets (CDSs) are widely used as virtual backbones for communications. On one hand, reducing the backbone size will reduce the maintenance overhead. So how to minimize the CDS size is a critical issue. On the other hand, when evaluating the performance of a wireless network, the hop distance between two communication nodes, which reflect the energy consumption and response delay, is of great importance. Hence how to minimize the routing cost is also a key problem for constructing the network virtual backbone. In this paper, we study the problem of constructing applicable CDS in wireless networks in terms of size and routing cost. We formulate a wireless network as a Disk-Containment Graph (DCG), which is a generalization of the Unit-Disk Graph (UDG), and we develop an efficient algorithm to construct CDS in such kind of graphs. The algorithm contains two parts and is flexible to balance the performance between the two metrics. We also analyze the algorithm theoretically. It is shown that our algorithm has provable performance in minimizing the CDS size and reducing the communication distance for routing.  相似文献

The solar wind makes the magnetosphere to expand and contract as indicated by the expansions and contractions of the auroral oval due to balancing of the dynamic pressure of the ambient space plasma at inner and outer magnetic lines. This self‐similar magnetospheric behavior elucidates the controversial magnetic storm‐substorm relationship and reveals the 3D‐spiral structure of magnetic interaction. The found self‐similarly evolving structure of one seen as fundamental interaction suggests dynamic fractal unifying interaction that builds a firework universe having 3D‐spiral code. The unifying interaction is described with equation drawn in new fundamental dynamic fractal framework. The equation of unifying interaction converges to the inverse square laws and the principle of uncertainty at laboratory scales. The dynamic fractal fundamental framework is made of one 3D‐spirally‐faster‐inward contracting and expanding, oscillating, basic matter. It simply accounts for observed constant speed of light and for the creation of bright and dark bands on a screen behind a tiny slit. The dynamic fractal framework is quantitatively confirmed with the orbital data for the Milky Way Galaxy, the Sun, the Earth, and the triple asteroid system 87 Sylvia. Many testable predictions are also made. The presented new fundamental dynamic fractal framework allows qualitative and quantitative modeling and simplification. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Let be a degeneration of Kähler manifolds. The local invariant cycle theorem states that for a smooth fiber of the degeneration, any cohomology class, invariant under the monodromy action, comes from a global cohomology class. Instead of the classical cohomology, one may consider the non-abelian cohomology. This note demonstrates that the analogous non-abelian version of the local invariant cycle theorem does not hold if the first non-abelian cohomology is the moduli space (universal categorical quotient) of the representations of the fundamental group.

Normalized irreducible characters of the symmetric group S(n) can be understood as zonal spherical functions of the Gelfand pair (S(nS(n),diagS(n)). They form an orthogonal basis in the space of the functions on the group S(n) invariant with respect to conjugations by S(n). In this paper we consider a different Gelfand pair connected with the symmetric group, that is an “unbalanced” Gelfand pair (S(nS(n−1),diagS(n−1)). Zonal spherical functions of this Gelfand pair form an orthogonal basis in a larger space of functions on S(n), namely in the space of functions invariant with respect to conjugations by S(n−1). We refer to these zonal spherical functions as normalized generalized characters of S(n). The main discovery of the present paper is that these generalized characters can be computed on the same level as the irreducible characters of the symmetric group. The paper gives a Murnaghan-Nakayama type rule, a Frobenius type formula, and an analogue of the determinantal formula for the generalized characters of S(n).  相似文献

Entanglement is a striking feature of quantum mechanics and an essential ingredient in most applications in quantum information. Typically, coupling of a system to an environment inhibits entanglement, particularly in macroscopic systems. Here we report on an experiment where dissipation continuously generates entanglement between two macroscopic objects. This is achieved by engineering the dissipation using laser and magnetic fields, and leads to robust event-ready entanglement maintained for 0.04 s at room temperature. Our system consists of two ensembles containing about 10(12) atoms and separated by 0.5 m coupled to the environment composed of the vacuum modes of the electromagnetic field. By combining the dissipative mechanism with a continuous measurement, steady state entanglement is continuously generated and observed for up to 1 h.  相似文献

Quantum detector properties of the quantum point contact (QPC) are analyzed for an arbitrary electron transparency and coupling strength to the measured system and are shown to be determined by the electron counting statistics. Conditions of the quantum-limited operation of the QPC detector, which prevent information loss through the scattering time and scattering phases, are found for arbitrary coupling. We show that the phase information can be restored and used for the quantum-limited detection by inclusion of the QPC detector in the electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer.  相似文献

Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is a powerful technique to study the macroorganization of photosynthetic light-harvesting apparatus in vivo and in vitro. It is particularly useful for monitoring environmental stress induced molecular re-organization of thylakoid membranes in green leaves. The current study focuses on two questions which are important to perform and interpret such experiments: how does CPL depend on the excitation wavelength and how on the orientation of the granal thylakoids. CPL and circular dichroism (CD) of pea chloroplasts were complementarily applied when chloroplasts were either in suspension or trapped in a polyacrylamide gel (PAAG) after alignment in a magnetic field. In contrast to the CD spectrum, the CPL signal was found to be independent of the excitation wavelength in both the Soret and the Qy absorption region for chloroplasts in both suspension and PAAG. The improved resolution of luminescence measurements revealed a relatively small negative CPL band in addition to the previously described large positive band. No effect of photoselection upon excitation on the CPL spectra was detected. The CPL intensity at 690 nm at the edge of the granal thylakoids was found to be higher than at the face of the grana suggesting the CPL anisotropy.  相似文献

We experimentally investigate the interaction of counterpropagating discrete solitons in a one-dimensional waveguide array in photorefractive lithium niobate. While for low input powers only weak interaction and formation of counterpropagating vector solitons are observed, for higher input powers a growing instability results in discrete lateral shifting of the formed discrete solitons. Numerical modeling shows the existence of three different regimes: stable propagation of vector solitons at low power, instability for intermediate power levels leading to discrete shifting of the two discrete solitons, and an irregular temporal dynamic behavior of the two beams for high input power.  相似文献

We observe experimentally higher-order solitons in waveguide arrays with defocusing saturable nonlinearity. Such solitons can comprise several in-phase bright spots and are stable above a critical power threshold. We elucidate the impact of the nonlinearity saturation on the domains of existence and stability of the observed complex soliton states.  相似文献
