Correlation between the magnetic and electrical properties of MnSe1-x Te x chalcogenides

The coefficients of thermal expansion, lattice constant, and magnetization of anion-substituted MnSe_{1 - x}Te_x chalcogenides were measured upon cooling in zero and nonzero magnetic fields in the temperature range 4.2–600 K. Resistivity as a function of magnetic field up to 1 T was measured. The dynamic properties of the materials were studied by the ESR method. Magnetoresistance and temperature hysteresis were found in MnSe_{1 - x}Te_x solid solutions.

An error is found in the experimental procedure used by S.K. Gogovikov, who recently reported on the detection of the γ decay of the ₂ ^125m Te nuclear isomer delayed by 22% due to the environment of these nuclei by numerous stable ¹²⁵Te nuclei.     

Discrete sources analysis of the correlation between surface plasmon resonance and extraordinary optical transmission

The discrete sources method is adapted to analyze the scattered energy distribution in the entire space in the problem of diffraction by an inhomogeneity in a film. The relation between extraordinary optical transmission through a nanometric film and surface plasmon resonance is studied numerically. It is shown that these phenomena are closely correlated.     

Vibrational spectra and elastic,piezoelectric, and magnetoelectric properties of HoFe3(BO3)4 and HoAl3(BO3)4 crystals

Raman spectra of light are obtained for HoFe₃(BO₃)₄ and HoAl₃(BO₃)₄ crystals at various temperatures and are used for determining the frequencies of crystal lattice vibrations at the center of the Brillouin zone. It is also found that the HoFe₃(BO₃)₄ crystal exhibits a phase transition at T _c ≈ 366 K. The magnetoelectric effect in the paramagnetic phase of these compounds is studied experimentally. The lattice vibration frequencies, elastic and piezoelectric moduli, Born dynamic charges, and the high-frequency permittivity are calculated using the density functional method. A peculiar behavior of the transverse acoustic vibration branch is observed in the Γ → Z direction of the Brillouin zone of the HoFe₃(BO₃)₄ crystal. The electric polarization induced by an external field is estimated using the calculated values of piezoelectric moduli and experimental values of magnetostriction.     

Nonequilibrium processes at the shock wave front in inert gases with a small amount of Fe(CO)<Subscript>5</Subscript> impurity

Nonequilibrium processes occurring in shock waves generated in argon and helium containing a small amount of Fe(CO)₅ impurity are investigated experimentally and numerically. Nonequilibrium radiation peaks are found in the relaxation zone of the shock wave, and a dependence of the radiation intensity on the shock parameters and Fe(CO)₅ concentration is obtained. Unresolved spectra of the resulting radiation in the range 400–700 nm are recorded. It is shown that the effects observed cannot be accounted for by high-energy collisions in the zone of shock translational relaxation. It is concluded that these nonequilibrium phenomena are related to electronic excitation of small iron clusters at fast condensation of supersaturated iron vapor arising due to Fe(CO)₅ decomposition. A kinetic model describing the formation of excited clusters is suggested.
